I guess the final word has not been said about the whereabouts of the Phoenix Finance / DART GP team yet, but it seems quite unlikely that they will race this season, I would be surprised if they were allowed in. (But I am keeping my fingers crossed that they will be able to run!)

How should we treat the former Prost car that were present at Sepang?
* Should we ignore that completely?
* Should they be treated as 'refused entries' ?

I guess FIA has the view that they were not refused entries because they actually never were entered after all.

I think that the attempt should at least be historically shown in some way, of not officially but at least unofficially.

How about:

"Also present but not permitted to participate"

It has a nice alliterative ring to it anyway!

"Also present but not permitted to participate"

I agree this is how we should qualify it. But one of the problems is that even if they had been allowed to practice they probably couldn't have : they had no tires afaIk.
I don't know if the word spread outside France (or if this is already old news !) but Tom Walkinshaw told French reporters in Sepang that the Phoenix team will be in Interlagos with Ford engines. Plus a part of TWR's mechanics are now working full time for Phoenix Ltd in a separate shop in Leafield, actually transplanting the rear train of the old Arrows on the AP05s.

Does anyone else remember DART as a team running Chevrons in 2-litre Group 6 races in the early Seventies?
(I'm feeling old today...)

I assume there is no connection whatever with the Phoenix thing... ?

I believe they had some old tyres with them probably sourced from Arrows.

The Phoenix boss Charles Nickerson aka 'Chuck Nicholson' in a TWR Jaguar some twenty years ago:

Rayner, exactly when and where was the shot of GM taken? (This makes a huge difference, of course - is it a Prost, or a Phoenix, or a Dart?)

Sorry - Rainer

I am yet to see any pic of the DART/Phoenix/Prost.

The image shows proposed driver Mazzacane last year at Barcelona during a pre-season test.
I am not sure if the AP04 car has been even shaken-down in it´s current hybrid shape with a AX3 rear-end.

Hence the connection with Walkinshaw! Brilliant discovery Rainer! As the picture shows, Nickerson, partnered by Win Percy won the third round of the 1984 European Touring Car championship at Donington. They also won at the Salzburgring. Any other info about Nickerson's racing carrier?

Nickerson/Nicholson has won several sportscar races as co-driver to Walkinshaw.

They showed pictures of the proposed Prost AP05 in one of the Formula 1 mags recently. I presume Chuclk bought the intellectual property rights to those as well and could make them if he chooses?

Are we in a Karl Oppitzhauser position here? At least Karl got his car to the track - there is a cockpit shot of it on his car dealer website (www.oppitzhauser.at/images/bildgalerie/5_f1march1976.jpg) plus a shot of him hillclimbing in it (www.oppitzhauser.at/images/bildgalerie/6_fo1march7g19976.jpg)

That Phoenix team made me remember an old Joke:

One guy asks: What is a team with 2 AP04, Gaston Mazacane and Hart Engines ?
The other answers: Phoenix Team ?
The first guy says: Nothing! Because the AP04 is not a car , Mazacane is not a driver and Hart is not an engine !

Beyond that joke, i would like to have a 12th team in F1.
I just don't know if they apply to the rules and if they would be inside the 107% time.
If they don't apply they should not race. Rules being broken is not good for any organized sport.
