I think the Oval edurence race.
Use this trick

Series awards (i.e., cars) are not purely random. Press X when a silhouetted car has the large black circle flashing under it to cause that car to be selected as the award for winning the series. Timing is crucial, since the large black circle only appears under a car for less than half a second. If you are too slow, the next car to get the large black circle will be selected.
Information in this section was contributed by pj.

You can get unlimited F1 cars by playing endurance races, as you can win prize cars from those races unlimited times. To select a prize car, press X when the black circle is under the car of your choice.

I did not know about this trick when I get the F1 car so I had to do the race 5 times! :)

One way to guarantee that you receive the car you want is to save the game at the next to last race of the series, but make sure you have a large points lead. Then start the last race and immediately quit the race. Go through this process until they award you the car you want. I know it’s a little unscrupulous, but you won’t have to play through the really long series over and over to guarantee getting the F1 cars.

There are six F1 cars in the game:

F090/S
F094/H
F094/S
F686/M
F687/S
F688/M

Since there were all sorts of licensing problems the secret to the cars true identity is slightly hidden.

For example the F094/H:

F = formula
0 = number of cylinders ( the 0 means 10 )
94 = year
H = driver ( Hill )

So the F094/H is a 94 Williams Renault driven by Damon Hill.

I have the Playstation2 and GT3 but never got de GT2.
Does is worth to buy GT2 and play it in the Playstation2?
How good are the graphics in the GT2 in comparation with GT3 since I think the grafics in GT3
are awsome.
Can anyone help me to decide? Should I buy GT2?

If you are a super super GT fan then you my consider buying it but if not then don't. The graphics are crap if you compare to GT3 (very good if you have only played PS1 games), and you dont get much new things. GT3 has all GT2 has but better.

Thanks for the tips guys.

So Oval endurance, Dream Car Championship and Polyphony Cup all have F1 cars - any other races? Or can you get all six cars there?

I had no idea GT3 had these cars - I can't wait to drive them. How do you guys rate them? Realistic or not so great?

I've have played thousands of hours of GT1,2, and 3. If there is one thing that really took me by surprise, it was the F1 cars. The level of grip, power, and braking is unbelieveable. I can only assume that the F1 cars are that much better than say a Mazda 787B in real life.... Maybe Johnny Herbert could answer this for us!

I second that...

GT3 does not have as many cars as GT2, but it is better. It is much slower to get started because you have to figure out how to make money - it doesn't come as easy as in GT2. Not many $200,000 cars to win in 3 races series like in GT2 to build up cash. Graphics are much better and as always driving is very realistic.

But, come on, you can get F1 cars in GT3 - which one are you gonna chose? ;)

To do the Dream Car or the Polyphony cup's you need the super licence (something I haven't managed to do yet).

Apparently in the NTSC version you can translate the GT3 F1 car names to their real-world equivalents as follows :

F686/S =
F for Formula car.
6 is the number of cylinders the engine has.
86 is the year the car contested the FIA F1 championship.
S is for Senna. The man who drove the car that year.
0 in place of the 6 on the other cars stands for 10, as they were 10 cylinder engines that year. The 6 cylinder cars are turbo, while the 10 cylinder cars are naturally aspirated.

F686/S - 1986 Lotus-Renault V6T 98T, Ayrton Senna
F686/M - 1986 Willams-Honda V6T, Nigel Mansell
F687/S - 1987 Lotus-Honda V6T 99T, Ayrton Senna
F688/S - 1988 Mclaren-Honda V6T MP4/4, Ayrton Senna
F090/S - 1990 Mclaren-Honda V10 MP4/5B, Ayrton Senna
F094/H - 1994 Williams-Renault V10 FW16, Damon Hill
F094/S - 1994 Williams-Renault V10 FW16, Ayrton Senna

You can find screen shots of these here :
http://www.gt3.races...et/carlist.html

In the european / PAL version you only have 2 F1 cars as far as I can tell. They're called the Polyphony 001 and the Polyphony 002. I can only guess that they did this for copyright reasons.

I think the Polyphony 001 is either the 1995 Williams FW17 or the Williams FW16 but with a "nose job" to disguise it.

The Polyphony 002 seems to be a mix of Lotus 99T and McLaren Honda Mp4/4 (the roll bar and front wing endplates seem to be from the Lotus, but the rest of the body seem to be from the mp4, in particular the long nose and masked radiator outlets).

The easiest way to win the Polyphony 001 is to do the endurance race on the oval. You can win this with a 500bhp car fairly easily (no need to change tyres, just lean on the walls). Use an elastic band and a small piece of plastic to hold the accelerator key down -- it's less tiring this way.

If you don't win the F1 car at first sell or tune the car you win so you can get a 1000 bhp car. With this you can use the full "elastic band trick" to win. You put an elastic band around the two analog sticks and then adjust the left stick so that your car is always brushing against the left wall in the straight lines. This way you can let the car race itself. With a 1000 bhp you can only have it lightly brushing so it will often bounce away from the wall and you'll need to keep an eye on the game to help if it bounces into a crash.

If you still haven't succeeded buy the suzuki escudo and tune to 1800 bhp. You can then use the elastic band trick so that it's completely stuck against the left wall (no bouncing). This can be left to win the race over and over completely unattended.

Incidentally, beyond winning the F1 car this is a good way to get a load of cash.

Of course the above should read "right wall" and not "left wall" (duhhhh!).

Is there any way that I can garauntee that I will get one of the F1 cars when I win one of these enduro races?

I won the superspeedway enduro and I ended up with the Corvette (nothing wrong with that). I could have sworn I clicked X while it was over the shadowed F1 car but it gave me the Vette anyways! Help. Is there some trick to pressing X at the right time?

To be honest, though I've won the oval enduro race a dozen times (using above elastic band trick) I'm still not sure that the clicking the X at the right time actually does work. A lot of people seem to be saying it does but I have come across at least one other post that claimed it was BS.

OTH I can guarantee that the elastic/rubber band trick works. You can tune the Vette to 1'000 bhp. Though you may be better off selling it towards buying the Suzuki Escudo if you can afford it.

Note that it took me 6 attempts to win the F1 (and then I won another 2 immediately after).

Hitting X doesn't work. I've heard from people who are convinced that it works saying that it doesn't work all the time.

Right, so there's a what ? 1 in 4 chance of it working ?
Umm, they're the odds if you dont hit anything right ? Exactly :)

Just pray to the gt gods, that's what I do.

It really does. All you need is good timing and you should keep the X pressed down.

I've tried and hitting X doesn't seem to work... I'm no green gamer and I know I hit the X on the right car and it gave me a car two cars down. So then I tried to time hitting the X about two cars in advance and I got the wrong car again. I wish it worked but I just don't think so.

I have realised something witht he 'Hittin the X' thingy.

If im in a championship of say 10 races, and i can afford to miss the last race or 2 and just finish off the championship and win it, just saving the game b4 the last 1 or 2 races so i can repeat the trick of chosing what car i win. I press the X button and get the wrong car....but then if i load it up again and go the prize car screen again, hitting X wont do anything anymore. :confused:

Im sure about this as ive tried it several times with more than 1 championship. It only works the 1st time. So what i do is just depend on luck to win the car i want. :(

Last night I spent about an hour trying to "randomly" draw the F686/m in blue and white (I'm a Mansell fan) after accumualting enough points to skip the last race of the Formula Championship. The car is worth it but, my G*d, one hour? I must have reloaded the game over 40 times before I got it.

But, man, that is one helluva a car. I count 973 horses after the oil change - that's just sick. I've heard people mention that the F094/s is better and that it has HP in the upper 700's - How can it be better? The F686/m has 200 more HP. I noticed in the Formula Champ the F094/s was always the car to beat except maybe on the Test Track (yuck!) where the F/686 showed its power. Is there really that big of a gap in the handling and grip levels of the cars?

Earthling- I tried your trick on the first go around and I can't tell if it worked or not. The black circle thingy moves so fast.
