I've just read the Eghbal article in Bernies' Formula1 mag. How on earth does Eddie think the other teams get to the top. By being fair?!!!. Hell No. They play in the gray area of the rules and pray they get away with it. Eddie fired the guy trying to make his car fast because he was playing with the rule book.

Will there be a Jordan team in the championship next year?

Eddie may have been sensitive about cheating due to things that happened during the 1999 season that may have resulted in a warning from the FIA which was so intimidating that Jordan's competitiveness has been gone ever since. Maybe Eddie didn't want to explain to Hammidy what caused H2F and Damon's cars to stall at the Nurburgring in 1999?

That, is a most interesting question.

I like Jordan until he fired by fax HHF - what ever happened to that lawsuite anyway.

At any rate, I suspect some exits as we reach, what is known in economic terminology, pareto optimality (which, by theory says that you reach a state of equlibrium when you have a situation where you achieve maximum optput (or equilibrium) without bringing about a disadvantage to another in the said group - in this case F1) (for example, if you make soemone well off and make someone concomitanly worse off, you have not achieved pareto optimality).

But I digress.

We will have entry and exit until some sort of equilibrium is reached, and I wonder about Jordan's fate.

I also wonder just what the hell Edie Jordan is doing anyway, and why he still has a team.

From what I heard the car he designed was pretty flagrantly in violation of several rules that are not subject to interpretation, imho you can't blame Jordan for firing him.

: Sounds suspiciously like a way to get out of a contract that wasn't as good as an offer being made....
Maybe Jaguar need a new designer?
Phoenix/DART?

Oh bugger, now I'm a conspiracy Theorist.

This whole Hamidy affair is probably one reason why the Jordan team seems so disarrayed so far. Can't be that easy working in an organisation when the relationship with the technical director is so bad.

It was an out of court settlement whereby Jordan tops up his current salary to bring it to the level of his Jordan number (about $8M/yr) for the bal of the original contract (ie end of 2002 season).
The real hurt for EJ was the departure of sponsors after he dumped HHF.
Idiotic move.. What have they done since? Poor Fisi.

We must be BOTH conspiracy theorists then.

Sounds like a cunning plan to me - Feck it up so badly that you're never asked back.

What is it with the Jordan team that makes so many technical people leave well before their contract expires?

Ivan, if you read the article, did it list what rules Hamidy was trying to get around? It's a little harder to find that mag in the US. Thanks.

It was mentioned that the front wing is was too low and the total width of the car is narrow when measured from the sidepods. I think these got Eddie's goat because they are not in the gray areas of the regulations. What interpretation will you contest when the width of the car or the vertical clearnce of the wing is in question. none. :smoking:

I can understand the wing thing, but the sidepods too narrow? I know there is a regulation on monocoque minimum width at several different points at the driver compartment, and there is an overall maximum width for the bodywork of the car. But I'm fairly sure the is no minimum width specified at the sidepods. Some teams recently have run sidepods that are not the full width of the underbody, with the flat bottom extending out beyond the sidepods. There is definate aerodynamic benfit in this as long as the sidepods have sufficent area for the radiators to provide cooling. So I'm not sure how there is a rule to be skirted or even broken there.
