JVi: Other than driving, nothing else about Formula One interests me," he (JVi) said. "Winning the Formula One is the absolute top."

Maybe that's just what the trouble is. Maybe he should be a bit more interested in the other aspects of building a succesfull F1 team....

I could never see JV as being a driver who could help build a team. He has too much of a turn up, drive, go home attitude.

If only Formula One were an arrive-and-drive series

Context of the quote? To what question was it an answer?

Last year, F1-Racing published a list of JV quotes. My favorite was, "Racing isn't about winning." Maybe they spun him and he really meant "(British American) Racing isn't about winning." Just kidding. The rest of the passage showed that he was just trying to downplay the importance of the drivers that can win races.

I just read the October 1995 issue of Wired magazine, where they have an interesting article on Jacques and his Indy 500 win...the guy wakes up the morning of the race, has a bowl of cereal, then gets to the track and into the car, to win the race after being set back 2 laps.

He definitely is an "arrive and drive" kind of guy, and nothing wrong with that. It's not the right attitude at a team like BAR, but if the team was strong from the beginning to let him focus on his craft, he would be doing a great job.

You can find the quote in context here
http://www.atlasf1.c...p/id/1673/.html

JV says

"I've noticed that Formula One are recruiting and training younger and younger drivers and I sense that my world title will not mean anything if I don't get a result soon," he said. "I don't want to become unemployed."

Then

"I won't stick with it forever," he said. "There comes a point when enough is enough."

Villeneuve, whose team finished sixth overall last year, said on Friday he would prefer to leave the sport altogether than drive for a third-rate outfit.

"Other than driving, nothing else about Formula One interests me," he said. "Winning the Formula One is the absolute top."

Which means he doesn't see himself doing anything other than driving (i.e. no other role for him within a team)

Thank you Rene for putting that into context.
Like Todd mentioned, F1 Racing's November issue had 50 or so Villeneuve 'soundbites' -but without dates or references for most . :

Don't forget some good luck too...

How Schumie's stab into his left side didn't take Villeneuve out with him is beyond me.

Luck is a huge part of winning any championship.

Thanks for supplying the quotes Rene... If Jacques left F1 he'd probably spend a good part of his time skiing.

Cheers
