According to Nye, this car ran in the 1971 season. One of the cars was driven by Swiss ace Jo Siffert to win the 1971 Austrian GP.

it, in my humble opinion, to be one of the prettiest GP cars ever. The lines of the car and the paint scheme worked very well together. Also, being a V12 it sounded great too. Tony Southgate got it right!
Unfortunately, BRM just didn't have their act together, they just had too
many cars to take care of. One of the mechanics was actually do an engine
rebuild right in the garage on Saturday because they had run out of fresh
motors. It make for interesting viewing for a young race fan, but it couldn't of been a good thing from a logistics point of view let alone
allowing for maximum power output, etc.
I wonder what Max thought of that!

I have some photos of the car from Donington 2000. But I don't quit know how to add them in the forum.

Best regards

Siffert sadly killed, Watkins Glen GP killed off, Yardley and BRM out of business.
I recall seeing the car at the British GP, even have a photo somewhere.

As a Swiss, I'm very interested in drivers like Clay Regazzoni and Jo Siffert. To be honest, I've never even heard of Siffert before. How many GPs has he won? Could someone give a bit of background where he got his start? And how his racing career ended, tragically it seems...

Wolf,
Yes, IIRC the P160 BRMs were painted in Yardley colours for the all the '71 WDC races.

I hope You won't mind, but I'll post larger ones as links because they'd slow down thread loading considerably ~600kB each).

Yes indeed - little Tim - who of course was a driver in his own right (in roomy cars) before concentrating upon team management duties when his father died suddenly, and unexpectedly, due to a botched appendectomy.

I think you're right but for the wrong reasons. THe 160 had the same nose as the 153 when it first appeared. It got the distintive "shovel" in the non-championship Hockenheim race in June. However, the 153 had external water pipes, which can be seen in this picture.

From www.grandprix.com:
In the Porsche works team, while Pedro Rodriguez was referred to as the "Mexican Bandit" so Jo Siffert was affectionately known as the "Crazy Swiss." They were drivers out of absolutely the same mold and were thrown together as teammates and rivals in the BRM F1 squad for 1971. Nicknamed "Seppi" in his youth, this son of a motor trader won the Swiss 350cc motorcycle championship in 1959 before switching to four wheels with a Formula Junior Stanguellini. He graduated to F1 as a privateer in 1962 with a four-cylinder Lotus-Climax, later driving under the Swiss Scuderia Filipinetti banner and in 1964 joined British private owner Rob Walker's team. In 1968, "Seppi" drove superbly into the F1 history books by winning the British Grand Prix at Brands Hatch in Rob's Lotus 49B, beating Chris Amon's Ferrari into second place after a race-long battle. Walker and his wife Betty held Siffert in deep affection and Jo continued to drive for them through to the end of 1969. In 1970, Porsche bankrolled Siffert's seat in a works F1 March, the German company not wishing to lose one of their prize sports car racing aces to rivals Ferrari. His association with March was disastrous, so he was delighted to join Rodriguez at BRM the following season. He was killed in an end-of-season non-championship F1 race at Brands Hatch, the scene of his greatest victory.

here are some pics from my Yardley-BRM P160 in scale 1/20th.
The kit includes the following decals:
Peter Gethin, winner GP Italy, 1971
Pedro Rodriguez, Paul Ricard, 1971
Manufacterer: IRITANI, Brazil
As a big Siffert-fan, I have built his last car, Brand Hatch 1971.
Here are some pics, more on my homepage.

Photos are at www.historicgrandprix.com.
I also donated several color slides of the P160 from the USGP to the Racing Library (Int'l Motor Racing Research Center) at Watkins Glen including one of a mechanic rebuilding an engine in the garage, a very unusual race weekend photo.

Brilliant work! Please explain the scales; I was only aware of the white metal 1/43 kit, yet yours look like resin. Are the others scratch-built?

Might be worth searching for these:

IIRC, Seppi started on bikes then did the nomadic existence of travelling Europe with an F3 on a trailer, living on starting money etc. Raced for Rob Walker in F1, won the 68 British GP in a Lotus 49 [was that the last privateer win?].....Porsche paid March for them to run him in a 701 in the 70 season [so he wouldn't go to Ferrari for F1 & Sports Cars], moved to Yardley BRM in 71 [alongside Pedro Rodriguez, who was also his team mate in JW Porsche 917s]...won the 71 Austrian GP a few weeks after Rodriguez was killed.....then Jo himself perished at the Oct end-of-season non-championship race at Brands, 3 years after his greatest triumph there [68 British GP]...

I particularly like the photo looking through the twelve empty cylinders from the lower side.
