I posted this earlier in the F2001-F2002 comparision thread in response to a video card I am waiting for to bump up my pc.

I think it deserves a thread on it's own though. I grabbed this pictures from the MURC crystal ball forum.

The chip will be announced on May 14. Details so far are speculative but it is a moderate assumption that:
1) the card will be on or over the performance level of a GeForce 4 Ti4600.
2) Features on the hardware will be v. advanced (Pixel Shaders/Vertex Shaders/Displacement Mapping/Bump Mapping/??)
3) Triple Head (well duh).
4) 40 bit colour
5) 256 bit bus
6) .15 micron
7) It ain't going to be cheap.

I saw a press-release that stated $299 for the card.
Dont know if its fake or not.. we will see the 14th!

Seems great with up to 4 monitors connected :)
I just wonder if the game need to support it or not?
And the framerate will probably lower by 3 with 3 screens, not to mention you need
3times as much videoram for the videobuffers.

AlesiGOD,

Yeah that's the thing isn't it... I'm running an Iiyama 22" monitor and my wallet has just run away from me after even thinking about it. I'm working on catching it though and wrestling it to the floor until it respects my authority!

Andreas,

Or maybe we'll see it earlier??

This just in (how's your russian?).

http://ixbt.com/vide...rhelia512.shtml (btw this is expected to be a prototype and not indicative of current kit).

edit: and now in english

Basic points.
Increased accuracy of data presentation.
Each component of RGBA now can be represented in the form of 32 or 16 bit.
Hardware Displacement mapping
80 million transistors
.15 micron
256Mb DDR
256bit bus
Pixel fillrate 1.4Gpixels/sec
10 bit DVD and HDTV decoding!
16 textures, 4 pixel/vertex shaders per cycle.
Up to 16xFAA
Hardware Font smoothing/clear type

More to come yet. This card is looking very very good. Some talk about Quake III running at around 100fps (sync'd to each monitor), 1600x1200.

Ahh... whatever. Matrox has promised the world before and hasn't delivered. Their driver development is superior to ATIs but zero multiplied by one million is still zero. That being said, here's hoping it's fast, the driver development is continuous and the prices are as listed. nVidia made me pay $440 for my GF4 Ti4400 and it's soon getting to the point of 'pay back'. ;)

Kanec,
Have you changed your avatar because you were disappointed with the Parhelia's performance?

I just needed a change with a bit more colour.

But yes I am a little disappointed with the parhelia and it's level of quality with texture filtering. For example http://www.matrox.co...supersample.cfm is simply not available in the drivers at this stage, and it's lower levels of anistropic filtering don't make much difference to the competitor, and it would seem a little worse in some cases. It's FSAA (edge aliasing) is remarkable though.

Speed wise they are predicting around 10% improvement in drivers, but that isn't going to appease the buyer buying on frame rate alone. I don't mind the speed on it to be honest, but how in gods name it's fillrate bound with a 256bit wide bus I will never know. If they could get the same level of current w/texture filtered performance with the higher level of anistropic filtering I would seriously consider one.

R300 is the next card on the blocks... we may even here more about this card in the coming month.

Yeah that would be awesome, F12002 with 3 monitors would be fantastic.

As appealing as it is, unfortunately it doesn't factor in to the purchasing decision for me as I use a 22" Monitor. Having 3 of these would:
a) Send my accountant into a rage.
b) Break my desk, make me buy a new desk and subsequently sending my accountant into a rage. :)
