Fillet, thanks for the article.... Because my admiration for Ronnie I used to study swedish many years ago. I understand what they are talking about, but of course not that much...

Could ypu please give an idea what they said about Nina? (If I understand something, she was in London at 22 years old -now she must be around 27-) I dont ask you for a translation it is just I am wondering were is she now... could you help? Thanks, Niky

Rough translation. ;)

She left for London and studiet to become a interiour architect. Today, Nina is 22 years old. She was in Sweden this summer, and got in touch with relatives and her old friends. Nina doesn't like to be interviewed, and has said no to be participating in Expressen.

This article is from 1998, and came out in the newspaper "Expressen". They rereleased it for the webpage in march this year, so it's a bit old. But the main story about Ronnie remains the same.

The article says nothing about where she is now, but at the time of writing she was in Sweden. (1998)

Fillet means something else ;)

I have used a Swedish->English translation program for this, it's a long way from perfect but there are many swedes here that can help with some words :)

Part 1
------------------
The first portion – it began in bageriet.

Ronnie Peterson got motorintresset serverat with nybakta bullar. Daddy Bengt skötte the family's bakery on Köpmangatan in Örebro and screwed together cars ate Ronnie at home in the garage on Hjälmarevägen. When Ronnie gräddades to one of worlds fastest racerförare existed all the greatest ingredienserna with:
- Nybyggda motorbanor in Laxå and Karlskoga.
- The family that ställde up, with mother Maj-Britt, daddy Bengt and the brother Tommy. Tommy was mechanical ate Ronnie the the first years.- A big portion talent flavoured with a obändlig want. In the school had Ronnie two things ready for himself: He liked not ball game and hated when the forced him that stand in goal in football. Bollen wanted like never become friend with Ronnie. He liked not english and asserted that he to be sure never would move overseas, or need talk something other than swedish. Ronnie wanted preferably drive with traktorn his daddy byggt ate him when he was eight year.

Out in the world

Its of all the first the competition drove Ronnie with a trimmad moped, but when go-cart-banan in Laxå was ready tändes intresset for four wheel. Go-cart-karriären took Ronnie out in Europe and did him known in Italy, that alleged boyfriend to italian världsmästarinnan Suzy Raganelli. But Ronnie hadn't time for romanser. At home in Örebro worked he that serviceman at Renault and later that hissmontör on BPA. All money and all leisure went to racingen. On the autumn 1965 had Ronnie decidedly himself in order to take license for formel-bil. He lent pappas Mercedes and went to Karlskoga for uppkörning. Motala-grabben Reine Wisell was Ronnies teacher and under the coming years would Ronnie and Reine match front each other. Two blonda swedish boys took världseliten with storm. F3-karriären innebar loads of krascher and a international breakthrough. Under four somrar went Ronnie from okänd talent to världsstjärna. On the autumn 1967 upptäcktes he of Alan Rees and Max Mosley on a competition in finnish Keimola. Later started Rees and Mosley F1-teamet March and the hadn't forgotten the långe svensken.

Commercial for halstabletter

For 1969 year's season got Ronnie Peterson its the first sponsorkontrakt. Per Cewerin worked on the swedish grenen of Richardson&Merrell, that processed halstabletter. Cewrien använde Ronnie in order to market SMOG - halstabletten for smoker. SMOG switched then name on its podukt to Vicks and Ronnies blue helmet with yellow Vicks-text became known around the world. The money from SMOG handed to a new Tecno F3 and a employee mechanical. The race all talked if 1969 kördes in Monaco. Ronnie and Reine struggled page at page. Reine drove straight in a affront and Ronnie vann one of tidernas greatest F3-dueller. "Ronnie and Reine" was already a concept in Sweden and it would become more, very more. After a competition in Crystal Palace on sensommaren took Alan Rees connection with Ronnie and wanted that he would drive a couple of competitions. In potten lay a F1-kontrakt. Ronnie imponerade big and in competition with Emerson Fittipaldi, Howden Ganley, Tim Schenken and Reine Wisell got he a treårskontrakt with March in order to drive formula 1 and formula 2. On all ways was 1969 a händelserikt year for Ronnie. He had managed to on banana and also private fell pusselbitarna on correct location.

Barbro followed with everywhere

On diskoteket Prism in Örebro träffade Ronnie the three year younger Barbro Edwardsson, a sweet girl that worked that sekretare. Ronnie and Barbro became fast a oskiljaktligt couple. Earlier flickvänner had have had difficult for Ronnies roving life but Barbro liked that journey. That young had she been au-pair in USA. Barbro followed Ronnie to worlds all corner and she to and with anställdes of his team that officiell tidtagare. 1971 moved Ronnie and Barbro to England, closer March-teamets base. Ronnie had a shorter time been lodger at teamets secretary but now became it apartment in Maidenhead, at Themsen some ten kilometres uppströms väster if London.

Neighbour with Dun Castle

1973 bought paret a house in a finare villaområde and four year later a exclusive cottage in the area Cookham Dean, Berkshire. Huset is called Grey Thatch and exists left than today. A little longer away on the same street lived later Keke Rosberg and the area was called Racing Hill. Christmastide 1973 förlovade himself Ronnie and Barbro and in april 1975 was it about time for giftemål. The 4 november the same year was born Nina Louise. 1975 wrote himself Ronnie in Monaco there paret bought himself a apartment. Under a period stood it Peterson on ones the door and Castle on the second in skatteparadiset at The mediterranean. Ronnie träffade also two other persons that would get big importance in his life, Staffan Svenby and Sveneric Eriksson. Svenby was businessman and had along with Sveneric Eriksson arranged motormässor in foremost south Sweden.

Wrote never something covenant

1969 sålde Svenby AGV-hjälmar and he was interested of to have Ronnie that reklampelare. - I noticed that Ronnie not was as used to that teckna the the type of covenant, tells Svenby. - We came all the same överens and I erbjöd him that dial if he wanted have help. As became it and under all year we worked along had we not something typed covenant, we had a confidence for each other, tells Svenby. Staffan Svenby started Sports Promotion and apart from Ronnie as was it aktuellt with Dun Castle and Ingemar Stenmark that "customers". Svenby worked that sportagent ate Ronnie under entire his F1-karriär. That newcomer in March got Ronnie become tredjeförare behind Yeah Siffert and Chris Amon. Affärsmannen Colin Crabbe helped to as that Ronnie got loose resources from Mosley and Rees.

- Mosley was a skillful negotiator even then and he was called for "silvertungan", tells Staffan Svenby.

Today is Max Mosley chairman in international bilsportförbundet and the that controls formula 1 along with Bernie Ecclestone.

Succédebut in Monaco

The 10 may 1970 debuterade Ronnie in formula 1, in Monacos Grandee Prix. Jochen Rindt vann the race but Ronnie did a succéartad entrance among the big stjärnorna with a sjundeplats. Just Monaco came that become a favoritbana for Ronnie and several besvärliga seasons got a positive vändpunkt just there. Already under 1968 and 1969 - and especially then he beaten Rindts "omöjliga" varvrekord on banana Thruxton 1971 - had Ronnie kallats "the nye Jochen Rindt", and on a almost kusligt ways came their öden that sammanflätas. Österrikaren Rindt was worlds bäste driver 1970 but dödskraschade on träningen for Italiens GP on Monza-banan, after a bromsaxelbrott on his Lotus 72. Jochen Rindt korades postumt to världsmästare 1970 and Ronnie and Barbro chose later that name its daughter after Jochens wife Nina. Reine Wisell got take over Rindts location in Lotus and Reine thanked for förtroendet with a sensationell tredjeplats on Watkins Glen in USA.

Swedish TV awoke

Intresset for formula 1 was on peak in Sweden and TV began direktsända tävlingarna. Reine had a ready better sits than Ronnie. But all accidents under this the time took roughly on psyket.

- We called bilarna for ansjovisburkar. Föraren got take smällen, and it was many hard smällar, tells Reine.

We sitting in the family Wisells garden at sommarstället on Marö. Reine remembers, he laughs and he tells gorgeous historier if years in världstoppen.

- Ronnie had just a thing in the head, that drive fast with cars. It was always fully, also on the way. I thought pity if Barbro occasionally, she was terrified and hid himself on the floor in the car.

- He was tremendously svårslagen for the that had the same car, Ronnie gave himself never on banana. He would just be snabbast, and he was it also, says Reine.

Ronnies favorittrick on landsvägen was that lie closely, closely behind a buddy car and stressa the that drive as fast it went. To and from tävlingsbanan, flygplatsen or hotellen, Ronnie wasn't late that adopt utmaningen, and kompisarna hang most often on. At home in England had Ronnie own mellantider on different ways and came often home with skrapmärken on its cars. All that went with Ronnie, journalists and friends, bleknade in sätet. Ronnie loved that drive car as that all that got experience körningen förundrades over his control over the car.

Two nights in jail

After have ignorerat a policeman immediately outside tävlingsbanan in Belgium got Ronnie sit two nights in jail before teamet succeded get out him. Some autografer opened gallret. In swedish squeezer hetsades often Ronnie and Reine against each other. The was ever so different that persons and took different ways to success, but the was yet friends. Ronnie was the buttre and snabbe kraschkungen that tjurade when the car krånglade. Reine was happy, public and with a reputation that play-boy.

- Tidningarna överdrev a great deal of, but intresset for us increased, laughs Reine. Between skratten is Reine serious.

- Man could sit and talk with a guy ones the day, next was he gone.I can count up a 40-tal that drove to death himself or crashed as hard to the nevermore came back. o Pratades it never security?

- Yeah, but man forgot fast.

Laughed ate the kid Lauda

March came with a new car and a new teamkompis to Ronnie for 1972. A young okänd österrikare at name Niki Lauda had paid 700 000 crowns for a location in March.

- We laughed ate him at first, none thought that he would become something, tells Reine Wisell. Three year later was the snabblärde österrikaren världsmästare. For swedish motoring was 1972 a black year. Joakim Bonnier dödskraschade under 24-timmarsloppet on Smile Mans. Bonnier had been 50- and 60-talets svenske racerkung and the first that compete in F1. Joakim Bonnier vann a victory, in Holland 1959, but had placed of F1-karriären when olyckan happened. Reine Wisell would have kört the car along with "Yeah" but after Ronnie kört on Reine in starten on Oulton Park got Reine see the race on TV, with broken Thumb.

- On the morning rang a journalist and asked what I thought. I knew no if kraschen but got know what that happened. It was a roughly blow, says Reine.

- We would begin build F1-bilar in Switzerland. It became not as.

Reine tappade lusten

Reine had after olyckan hard to state reasons for himself and give her of all yttersta. After 1972 drove Reine just two F1-tävlingar. Today works Reine with marketing, is mentor ate F3-föraren Nicklas Karlsson and competes with cars most in order to have a good time. When I leaves Reine on the bridge at Marö takes we in hand and he says:

- If it's something as know you was I exists. I receives a feeling of that Reine is happy that be able to say just the the words. On Ronnie bit no accidents - he satsade equally roughly that earlier. The 28 august 1972 wrote Ronnie on a contract for Colin Chapmans Lotus-team. Chapman had long tried buy loose Ronnie from March but Not managed to. Lotus was on the the time what Ferrari and McLaren is today. Colin Chapman ansågs be the of all greatest bilbyggaren and teamchefen. Chapman started Lotus-teamet 1955 and oakum it front until he dödförklarades 1982, then efterlyst of FBI for interference in knarkaffärer. The family's physician and missis Hasel Chapman is the sole that seen the body and läkaren meddelade that Colin died of a heart attack. Every now and then florerar ryktet that Colin Chapman still liver.

- Colin had connection with DeLorean in order to sell cars in USA. DeLorean sysslade apparently with olagligheter but I have never heard that Chapman had something with it to do, says Staffan Svenby.

First in sponsorns colors

Ronnie got 100 000 pound of Chapman in order to swap team. Kontrakten on the the time garanterade not some big money. Förarna had percent on inkörda prispengar. It commonly was 50 percent to teamet and equally very to föraren. Lotus had a driftbudget on about 200 000 pound for its two cars. The money came from Imperial Tobacco that marknadsförde first its cigarettmärken Golden Leaf and later John Player Custom. Chapman was first with the the type of sponsring there bilarna målades in märkets colors and to and with switched name to JPS. One that not liked that Ronnie switched team was teamkompisen Emerson Fittipaldi. Brasilianaren realized that Ronnie would become a difficult competitor. When Ronnie started from pole position in Swedens the first VM-tävling in formula 1 the 17 june 1973 bars he front of the audience. Thanks to Ronnie and Sven "Smokey" Åsberg got we in Sweden see worlds greatest driver in a VM-tävling on Anderstorp. And visst ought Ronnie won. A sneering pyspunka förstörde the day and Ronnie could just see on when Denis Hulme drove past with two varv left. Oturen tycktes never take end and tvivlarna meant that Ronnie simply drove for tufft, that he drove end on bilarna. On Zolder-banan in may succeded Ronnie with konststycket that scrap three cars on a competition. Self klarade he himself unharmed, just like/as he done earlier. Hjärnskakningar and some burn, visst, but the that saw all crashed cars shook on the head.

Wanted drive fortast of all

Ronnie had a ways to drive on - fully, or "flat out" that the british calls it. It sas also that Ronnie was bad on that setting the car.

- I holds not at all with, says Staffan Svenby.

- If Ronnie missed something as was it tactics. Alain Dean have said that there goes for that drive as slowly as possible and gain. Ronnie wanted drive as fast as possible and gain, continues Svenby.

The 1 july 1973 came the efterlängtade segern. Suddenly stämde all for Ronnie and in stället was it several of konkurrenterna that disappeared from tätplatserna. Ronnie vann on Smile Castellet, at Paul Ricard, before Francois Cevert and Carlos Reutemann. Prince Bertil existed on location in France and shall have svurit, in clean excitement, under nationalsången. That Ronnie was träningssnabbast nine times of the 15 tävlingarna 1973 showed that Fittipaldi have had correct, Ronnie was a for difficult opponent. Brasilianaren left Lotus for McLaren after säsongen.

- There are no ärorikt in that lose livet in a racerbil, said Jackie Stewart after teamkompisen Francois Cevert dödskraschat on training for säsongens last competition. Stewart ställde hjälmen on hyllan for good. Ronnie was skyhög favourite for 1974 year's season. Four wins under 1973 imponerade along with snabbheten.

- Chapman liked Ronnie. The could sit in hours and talk if how the car uppförde himself. I sat quiet in a corner and listened, which conversation it was, tells Staffan Svenby. Teamcheferna and mekanikerna loved Ronnie, he was a "racer", one that gave all. But the the following years in Lotus became a fiasco. Colin Chapman had no end of that get runs bilaffärerna in USA and finally got Ronnie enough. Ronnie left over the place to stjärnskottet Gunnar Nilsson. Helsingborgaren did a blixtkarriär with a victory on belgiska Zolder 1977 that greatest results on 31 F1-lopp. Unfortunately drabbades Gunnar of cancer and he went away the 20 october 1978.

Began if on new

Thanks to money from the italienske greven Guiseppe Zanon and swedish Polar could Ronnie begin if and buy himself a March-bil.

- We took a step back in order to take a forth. Ronnie felt tryggheten at March and it was what we could do, tells Staffan Svenby.

Forth innebar fabrikskontrakt with Tyrrell and their new sexhjuling for 1977. The car was extreme and because of a däckskrig succeded the never. The small framdäcken had krävt very development but in order to hang with Michelin chose Goodyear that satsa on the konventionella däcken in the first hand. When F1-bilarna krånglade could Ronnie look forward to it new big huset in Cookham Dean, small Nina and fun adventure with kompisarna in racercirkusen. Staffan Svenby can tell if a page of Ronnie that rarely synthesis.

- He liked that play tennis and golf. But on fester wanted all just talk cars with him, says Svenby. When he was little had Ronnie begun cultivate akvariefiskar. Intresset held in himself and in huset in England existed a aquarium on 250 litre. Ronnie ägde also several travhästar, among other Gävle-hästen Mogens Palaix along with kusken Dun Svensson. When the family Peterson travelled home to Sweden was it foremost to Örebro and sommarstugan in Askersund. With years had Ronnie learned himself that relax of and not take motgångarna as roughly, he knew what he could. On the autumn 1977 was Ronnie Peterson 33 year. Karriären had been in utförsbacke some year and many meant that Ronnie was end that toppförare. But Ronnie Peterson surprised all with a new fabrikskontrakt for 1978. He was back in världseliten with a good chance that become worldchampion.

I sent the article-writer a question regarding Nina. (Got curious myself. :))

This is what he answered:

tack själv – det senaste jag hörde om Nina var att hon bodde i London.

/Jan-Erik

Translation:

Thanks, the latest I heard about Nina was that she lives in London.

Why are you all laughing???? I enjoyed the translation mix!!!! (thanks) :rotfl: At least, I understand more now than three hours ago. many of the stories in the article, were told by Alan Henry in his book "Ronnie Peterson: SuperSwede".

For sure John Watson knows about Nina. As far as I concern, if she is happy, is fine with me. Call me nostalgic, but his father gave me many good memories and smiles while he was driving... so the only thing I can hope is she is fine and happy.

for the english speaking people: "banana" should be replaced by "racetrack" (they're both spelled "banan" in swedish, though the pronounciation is different) :)

"Tommy was mechanical ate Ronnie the the first years.- A big portion talent flavoured with a obändlig want"

it said "åt" in the swedish line, which should be "to" translated. But since åt can mean both "to" and "eat", well... :D

ate... and a big portion :)

He liked not english

He's obviously not the only one...

I've read the articles and translating it all feels like a bit too much, but I'd be happy to translate shorter passages or answer questions.
