I remember years ago it was possible to fax a ticket order to the Canadian Grand Prix office before the tickets were available to the public and this way you could get your choice of grandstands.

I noticed this year the best grandstands were already sold out as soon as the order form was on the website so I'm guessing this practice is still going on.

My question is: Has anyone "pre-ordered" tickets like this for Canada and if so what's the process like? Do you send in your grandstand preference along with a credit card number and then just wait several months before you hear what you got or is there confirmation of your "pre-order"? Or does it work differently?

Thanks.

Hi. As a regular Montreal GP attendee I can tell you that everyone who orders grandstand tickets for the GP via the ticket office has the option to renew those same seats for the following year. If the seat holder does not want the seats or wants to risk getting better ones, the seats will then be made available to the public when the public sale begins. Cheers.

You can send in your fax as early as the day after this years race. I never send in the credit card number because sometimes they don't give you the tickets you want and still charge you (unless you had those tickets last year..then you're pretty safe to get the same ones). If you leave out the credit card no., they fax or email you with the tickets that you've been assigned and give you something like 10 days to respond.

Check www.grandprix.ca for the fax number.

best of luck

Thanks for the replies guys. So it sounds like even though people get first choice on their tickets from the previous year I can still send in a request and if those tickets are available they'll go to me. I don't want my current seats for next year so I'm hoping to get better ones.

Will any old fax do or should I use their order form from this year? I guess it doesn't matter as long as I'm clear what I want. And Bogman thanks for the tip about the credit card.

A bit of a caveat about upgrading seat locations. I was warned by the grand prix ticket people that If the better seats I requested weren't available, I would be out of my old seats as well.

It was explained to me that first they process renewals, then see what's left and process upgrade requests. Finally they process new ticket requests. Although I don't know how much demand there is now. Perhaps with the somewhat diminished economy and no Villeneuve win on the horizon it won't be as much of a problem. Although if you check the grandprix.ca website they say they're totally sold out except for a few GA (general admission) tickets.

IMHO, the only really horrible seats are those along the Casino straight, Bronze 22 and the general admission grand stand across from it. Definitely upgrade if you're located there. (General Admission is practically worthless these days anyway, since they removed the GA viewing in turn one a few years back. )

Thanks for the info. This is my first year in GS 10 and I have a feeling they're not going to be anything special so I REALLY want 34, 24 or 12 for next year. Oh well I'll cross my fingers and who knows it might turn out my seats this year aren't as bad as I think they will be.

I don't know, Silver 10 doesn't look bad at all, certainly better than Bronze 34 and arguably better than Silver 21/24. I used to sometimes stand where Silver 10 is now, back in the old days before there were grandstands or hospitality tents at that location. You can see the start and a lot of the 1st-2nd corner action.

My personal opinion is that Silver 11 and 12 are by far the best seats available at any price, good luck getting those.
