Further to my remarks concerning this year's Nurburgring 24-Hour race in the present 'Nostalgia Forum' thread, 'our' car had to be withdrawn at 3am this morning dammit. Engine computer terminally glitsched. If it had been a pliers, spanners, hammer and milk bottle top job it would have finished...

But is anybody maintaining the results/retirements records of these current minor level enduros such as the Nurburgring 24-Hours for posterity????

Doug, a lot of results are on the internet, but I did not investigate just how detailed they are. And, yes, I might be tempted as soon as I've finished all the updates on the ETC site (but will it ever end?) to add some minor ;) events, like the non-championship Spa races, the Nürburgring 84/24 hours, Bathurst 1000.

At least the Bathurst 500/1000 results are readily available to simply copy, and very comprehensively done too.

Minor races? It's no longer bigger than the AGP here, but it's close!

Frank: Bathurst 1000 results will be available shortly (I hope) on one of the sites I work with. I have several spreadsheets done up ready to go for a large expansion of the data that is presently available on VESRIX. Just need to learn how to upload and play with the coding.

The coding is very adaptable and almost any race/series history could be easily fed into it. A complete history of Formula Holden was compiled and is set to go, but a change in the mangement of Formula Holdens PR has seen the original end concept for this to be aborted. Shame :( Would have liked to have seen the VESRIX concept expanded to other events by now. And by an official site that would hasve made for easy stats usgae by the media. Oh well.

Top ten and class winners of Bathurst 1000 are already available in a text format on another site I work on - and several spreadsheets can be downloaded with complete results in them.

Ray: not bigger than the AGP? You obviously haven't informed Mr. Cochrane of this opinion :)

I must have watched about 5 hours of DSF coverage on the 24hr race at the Ring. Much of the camera footage was from a helicopter or in-car with the Nissan Skyline (with the rear-view mirror taking up half the view). Yet it was, for me at least, one of the most evocative race watching experiences... something that I haven't gotten in quite some time.

This race had a folk fest type feel to it, thanks in part to the high summer-type weather we had this weekend in Europe. And this amazing race course has so much character. The commentators guessed that nearly 100,000 people were strewn around the track.

The other aspect that I found very cool was that anybody can compete at this race, even with a little eco box (heck, most of the cars were less than bred for racing cars). Someting like 208 cars took the start, from what I manage to gather. I assume that all it takes is basic safety features (rollcage, 5 point harness) and the 2500 Euro entrance fee (is that the correct amount? The commentator indicated it).

I could definitely see myself trying to do something like this someday (only 23 now, and studying for another 3 years). Hopefully this race will continue!

As far as the race itself goes, I wish the Porsche's and the Nissan had been able to keep up with the blistering pace of the Viper. But at this track, like the Ironman race on the Big Island, anyone who finished is a winner! And that is what its all about!

DCN, I'd be curious to hear some of your experiences of the race (both on and off the track)!

I wasn't in it - dammit! - I was at home on the end of a mobile phone offering encouragement, some technical suggestions, tea and sympathy beneath the Union Jack a'fly from our telly aerial in honour of HMQ's Jubilee this weekend. In fact the entry developed into a huge cock-up, car had been entered in the wrong class - scrutineers caught up with the error 6 hours into the event - car had already lost 3 hours in the pits with engine management computer suffering chronic indigestion. They continued 'for fun' despite the inevitability of disqualification should they finish, until another problem arose - chronic fuel starvation - and they finally put a shroud over it all at 3a.m. The owner - not terribly pleased - declared "That is neither an experience I enjoyed, nor wish to repeat...". Oh dear. The downside of a last-minute entry. What's that about the 'Six Peas'???? - Proper Preparation Prevents P***-Poor Presentation?

Incidentally, may I say - in relation to another current thread - how much I applaud the presence and interest of younger enthusiasts in this Forum; if you find your own taste buds and interests as stimulated as mine were by other media when I was 23 there's real hope for the future. Welcome, keep the faith and kick the greybeards when we become too Old Farty.

As for my other off-track experiences over the past weekend, I doubt there's much interest in Koi carp, geraniums (gerania???), and the sullen insolence of a lawnmower carburettor that refused to carburate....until I had a firm word with it. V. dull existence, in other words...

I came back yesterday evening from the 24 Hours at my old "home-circuit". A great experience, once again! The untypical (phantastic) weather helped a lot. But you really got covered with
loads of dust trying to find your way through the bumpy "roads" along the track. Well, I managed to show David (Italian journalist from Firenze, who will write some features on the race for the Italian touring car and Nürburgring fan) the Nordschleife: Hatzenbach and Hocheichen, Schwalbenschwanz (outside!) and Adenauer Forst, Fuchsröhre and Schwedenkreuz, Aremberg and Flugplatz.... I really felt at home again and he was more than impressed.
Just carried a dozen films to the fotolab to have it processed.
Doug, which car was "your" car? Maybe I got some pics of it.

As far as the results are concerned I try hard to bring them all together. 30 years have to be covered, but I'm confident to get hold of ALL of them soon.

BMW Z3M Coupe - Rob Wilson/Robert Brooks/bloke whose name I cannot remember (T.H.E.Owner). Thanks ever so much for this kind offer but it sounds as if it didn't continue running long enough/fast enough to warrant photographing....

...but I was in their pits with the mechanics still working on it. Rob Wilson and Robert Brooks were still hoping to continue at that time. Black car, No. 206 and third driver was Angelo Vijay.
I cannot remember if I took a photo, but I will know in a few days.

Mr.Nye:

You mean you are not opening Mr.Nye's automotive emporium, tea house, and sushi parlor? I guess it was just a rumor....

anyway, thanks for all the lovely stuff you have contributed to automotive history over the years..  ....and yes, I was kidding (obviously!)

A good friend of mine, Joe Smith, who was a race car photographer in the 50s has koi too...and he is one of 3 people in the US that has a license to keep a bald eagle in his back yard (he sold all his stuff to Tony Adriaensens of Corsa Research in Antwerp a few years ago)

US coverage possible. All the DSF coverage of German racing seems to end up on Motors TV,dubbed with English? commentry by an auful American. I think this may have come via the SPEED channel?

Well yes, if you consider a 2 minute blurb on this race and similar ones on a program on na$$crapvision's program "Motorsports Mondial" 6 months after the fact "coverage".... ):

and when will we get coverage of the BTCC, ETCC, FIA-GT, FIA/SRWC, and on, and on?
....OK, in these instances we MIGHT get 30 seconds of coverage 6 months after the fact; again on Motorsports Mondial...

further....I understand that na$$crapvision has no plans to cover the Monterey Historic races this year...or any of the English historic car festivals....and we only get something like 12 hours of LeMans and not all 24 like last year..and on, and on...

At least you get that. Our Le Mans coverage down under will be a one hour highlights package a week later with 15 minutes of commericals and five minutes of Hawaiian Tropic girls. But BTCC, DTM, ETCC, FIA-GT, FIA Sportscar? Forget it.

I do try to keep a record of these races, but find getting accurate details rather difficult (and I don't have enough time to search the web too heavily either). I try to keep results of the likes of Brazil 1000 Km, Enna 6 Hrs, Nurburgring 24 Hrs, Spa 24 Hrs etc, and they can be found in the archives of http://www.silhouet....rt/almanac.html . If anyone wants to send me more accurate results though, I'd be more than willing to add them in.

Not just a rumour. I can confirm that it is open and that the food is excellent - but the sushi was off when I visited.

Hi Udo,

I had been at the Schwedenkreuz from saturday morning at 8:00 AM until sunday. And the sun had caused me a bad sun burn. But nevertheless two fantastic days.

Thank you. Another little vignette which is a sign of present times. Am I right, Uwe, there was a DTM round under full FIA authority run in the morning? During it - I am told - a squad of heavies appeared in the pit lane and garages and suddenly everybody but everybody had to have the correct ausweiss (pass) or they were frog-marched out of town. You will do this, you will do that, stand here, stop there, knees bend, cough, raise one arm, point up there...

Within about ten minutes of the end of that race the FIA heavies vanished and the 24-Hours was again run like an old time 1960s race meeting...friendly people wandering about at will, being friendly, and enthusiastic, and enjoying the fun...

Lordy, lordy - where did it all go wrong?

Wasn't the DTM round at the Sachsenring?

It was. In the morning at the' ring was a DTC(Deutsche Tourenwagen Challenge) round on the Nordschleife and a second V8 stars race on the GPkurs. What amazed me was that with SIX days of practice and racing at the 'ring, there were any marshals(or spectators for that matter) left to run Saschenring!

Ah, but at least you get the full live coverage of Bathurst! There used to be a good 2 hours on terrestrial TV here in the UK, but I have to order the video now:(

Incidentally, anyone know whether the Ring 24hrs highlights will be on TV at all?

I stayed at the Schwedenkreuz for both days so I didn't realize anything like that. And on my video tape of the race (8 hours totally) they didn't mention it likewise. But not being covered by TV cameras doesn't mean that it didn't happen.;)

As Rob29 said already it was a DTC race, not DTM. And you could see several banners around the ring bashing the DTM, due to the overlapping of the 24 hours and the DTM race which was caused by the DTM officials.

I wasn't aware that the DTC (2 liter?) still existed; I thought it was combined with the ETCC. Is there a website for the DTC?

I also cannot confirm this, although I have been in the pit area at the time in question.

We were three at the 24 Hours race: David Tarallo from Florence and Jan Hettler from Munich, whose phantastic pics you can see here:

Doug, if you let me know your e-mail address I can send a nice photo of the car. You can post it here then, to enable the others what car you were talking about.

there is another book on obscure Italian sports-racers coming out, in addition to La Sport e I Suoi artigiani 1937-1965, which was released 11/2001? Title?

Thanks,

No, the Italian Supertouring Car Championship became the ETC Cup two years ago. Last year there was the Euro-STC, with another race for Superproduction cars. This years, they merged both classes into an intermediate one. The DTC, German Touring Car Cup, for Superproduction cars, still exists.

DTC rules are used on a national level in the Netherlands and as a subdivision in the BTCC too.

Way to go to "CHALLENGE CONSULTING" Caterham, which took 11th position, and got the class win.
Way to go Chris COOPER,
Peter HAYNES,
Clive RICHARDS,
Chris HARRIS!

Massive respect, keep going my friends.

Best Wishes,

Liran Biderman.
