To start off, I really hope Geoff Crammond releases a patch soon to improve the graphic engine because to be frank, it sucks!

It's more than half as fast as f1 2002's graphics engine and thats a discrace.

I've done some testing, and would like some feedback from GP4 players. Seems like GP4 have a real problem with the mirrors, and the difference on my PC with only cars in the mirrors and playing without mirrors is 12 fps! This is when I run the test in the graphics meny.

Well ... it really depends on what computer you have. I agree the graphics engine in F1 2002 is much better than the one in GP4 - I think everyone would agree with that.

Saying that, the graphics in GP4 and really good. They are real crisp and with the right hardware / setup you can really see it.

I doubt there is going to be a patch for the graphics engine. I know for the minimum specs, it doesn't say much - but you won't really 'enjoy' the game if you don't have a powerful PC.

Look around this board, some guys have offered tweaks to improve the speed / feel of the game, and they actually work.

I have a AMD Athlon XP 1900+, 1.6 Mhz, 500 Mb DDR Ram, with a gForce 4 4200t and I use XP Pro.

With vSync off and no Video Walls and only cars in the mirrors I get 33 fps in the test under the graphic meny, I think that's pretty lousy when I have such a fast computer.

I would love 33FPS!!

On a Athlon 1.2G, GeForce2 GTS 32mb, 256M DDR RAM & ME my best is 25FPS.

That is running with most options on medium & at 1024x768, mirrors cars only. Has anyone else noticed that changing the resolution has very little effect on FPS?

I am running the standard graphics.cfg file, but have tried others I have downloaded off the net - don't make any difference for me.

The game runs OK really. Only a noticeable frame rate drop when following other cars into slow corners - the starts seem fine.

What is this v-sync thingy & how do I turn it off?

BTW, given that video runs at 25FPS I would have thought 33FPS would have been OK??

X-ray,

Yeh I know - I run a P4 1.6 with a GF4 and can only manage 27fps - which is poor considering on other games I would always get around 100fps - I know the eye can't make out the difference after 75fps or so, but still ... the graphics engine in GP4 is poor, everyone knows this and it really needs to be looked at if they are thinking GP(?5).

Look in the f1graphics.cfg file - you will find some stuff to tweak.

Kiwi,

Vsync should always be turned off - it slows a game down heaps. By default in GP4, this option is turned off. Just to double check, load up the graphics section - goto your resolution and then to vsync.

Also, vsync should be turned off in your video card properties ...

Right click on your desktop
Properties
Settings
Advanced
Choose your video card tab
Then select, vsync always off

Thanks Daz.

Is the patch going to address frame rate issues anyway? I would not have thought so.

Nope - I don't think so. What I have running at home at the moment seems to be ok, even though its only 27fps - stills run fast.

Yeah, even at 25FPS it is OK.

I find the sensation of speed is best using the T-Cam view.

Yerp - I can't drive the other way, like I used to GP2/3 - its just way to slow, doesn't even look like you are moving.

I don't think it is that bad, I mean with a dinosaur PII 400 mhz machine & old 32 meg geforce MX card it's still playable on my PC, wet weather and all. obviously it chugs a bit at the start, but once the race gets going it's ok.

not as smooth as 30fps video though!!

--->and movie film is shot at 24fps, so anything more than that must be satisfactory, no? does anyone here ever watch a movie and think "gee, this is really crappy, it should be up around 60fps!!" ??

I don't think its the fact of the FPS, but when you look at GP4 and F1 2002 - side my side, F1 2002 just seems alot quicker, like you are actually driving a car.

I agree. With my computer a P4 2.0 gForce 4 and Win XP the best I get is 30 fps. :
The game is nice but I have F1 2002 and the speed is a lot better.

Yep, it makes little to no difference.

For me it's the same with the textures settings, the difference between low and high is something like 1-2 fps.

I did a test with the lowest graphics settings available, except had cars in the mirrors and I got 43 fps. The difference between the game looking like **** and beautiful is 10 fps! waow...

I have a PIII 500 with a 32meg tnt2 graphics card 128 Meg Ram and have the annoying problem of the cockpit switching between graphics mode and non graphics mode.

Is there any solution, setting wise (no upgrade pc suggestions please)?

I got the game last night and I am happy with the graphics, I am using the a P3 650MHz with 256 MB Memory and a Voodoo 4 32MB, yes many of the settings are low or medium level.

I have only one problem that you rear view mirrors are a yellow and green mess, and it makes no differance in what setting I use for the mirror, be it all objects or cars only can any body help   But over and above that small issue the rest of the menus cool   :smoking:
