I was just reading a Nigel Roebuck article on Germans in F1, and he obviously mentions Stefan Bellof and the potential he showed at Tyrrell in 1984-85. The article also has the throw away line "...on the verge of signing for Ferrari, Bellof was killed at Eau Rouge driving a Porsche 956 in the 1985 Spa 1000Kms..."
Was Bellof signing for Ferrari a rumour, or more substantial than that. Presumably they would have dropped Stefan Johansson for 1986 - who was only drafted in to replace the sacked Rene Arnoux at the start of the season.
Anyone have any info on this?

Stefan Bellof signed for Ferrari?

This has already been discussed here, look at this thread:

BTW, I also read it in a German book titled "Kampf am Limit (Die Formel 1 Chronik)" that reputedly at the time of his death Bellof had a Ferrari contract in his pocket.

The (in)famous austrian journo Heinz PrĂ¼ller (can't stand the guy) claims that Bellof showed him the contract with Ferrari.Originally posted by Geza Sury
