Hi, all,

searching pictures on the Carlo Pintacuda's Alfa Romeo 8C 2900 runner-up at the Mille Miglia 1938, I've found one on this web page, www.velocetoday.com, and in addition to this, there's another on the Mike Lawrence book "The Mille Miglia", but by no means I can find one clear enough.

Any hint? I've tried Google, but it's been in vain. Any help welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Carles.

Well, there were four identical 8C2900Bs in Mille Miglia Spider form at the start.

On the net, I didn't find much if you look precisely for #142, Pintacuda's.

However, see:
http://www.fantastico.de/indexh.htm
Go to "Glorioso" and choose 8C2900. Scrolling down, there are a few pics of the 1938 MM, among which this stunning one (just to let everybody here to know what we're dealing with

I have some scanned pictures of the very Pintacuda car, but have no URL to post them. Contact me if you want me to send.

the web page on Alfas is really FANTASTIC.

Would you mind send me this pictures on Pintacuda's car? We would be very grateful. We are modelling the car for slot racing.

You can send me the pictures through my e-mail: cbr911@wanadoo.es

Thanks in advance.

Carles,

If your aim is to model the car, it doesn't matter too much whether the pics are actually of any of the 4 MM cars, or even from other races those cars entered. You will find more on the web typing "8C2900" on any resarch tool. You'll of course find also many diffrently bodied cars, but there are shots of surviving cars as well.

Back in 1938, after the Mille Miglia, the same MM Spiders also raced at the Spa 24 Hours (with extra fog lamps in the front wings) and in some hill climbs (by memory Pontedecimo-Giovi, Colli Torinesi, Stelvio). In 1939, one at least ran at the Luxembourg GP on June 4th. Those were Alfa Corse entries. Later, cars were sold to privateers. Swiss drivers owned several, notably Daetwyler. Phill Hill also raced 412030 in the USearly 50s.

For sure, THE source about those cars is Simon Moore's book "The Immortal 2.9". This book has one down side: it's out of print and estimated `£350.

When looking at surviving cars, take note that there are three:
412030 is the only one with its original body, but some detailling do not match anymore the 1938 form (very minor)
412031 is an original MM chassis on which a body has been rebuilt after 412030's. While not original, it's by very little the best IMHO
And then 412021. Replica body, but not a copy of the existing survivor. Overall impressive, but not exacly the right thing. You find complete doc of it at:
http://www.symbolicm...00/8c2900a.html
Compare that one with the original, and you'll realize how much Touring was absolutely great. But you'll have a lot of different angles which would help for modelling.

This is 412031, as far as I can tell:

There are some existing models of it. The most common is Brumm and is absolutely wrong. The front end looks almost as it ought to, but the tail really comes from another car!
Carlo Brianza did possibly the best 1/43, John Day also made a kit in the 70s and Plumbies Inter (Danhausen) produced quite a nice one in the early 80s.
Recently, somebody made a 1/10 detailled model on sale for only $4000 (I would take a dozen, please)
If you make a little serie of models, let me know, since I also collect Alfa miniatures.

There are MANY models of the 8c2900As and Bs in their various incarnations.

BBR in Italy makes a superb model of the LeMans coupe in 1/43rd.

There are quite a few die cast models of the 1938 Mille Miglia car. The Le Mans car was in Lurani's garage in Cernusco Lombardone, near Monza for many years, before it went to Sparken in England , than to the Alfa museum, when they traded Sparken an "extra" 158/159 GP car for it..

There are also models of the 1936 and 1937 Mille Miglia cars in 1/43rd made by similar companies.

Try www.grandprixmodels.co.uk They are a good source for hand made models from all over the world. For die-cast models you can try www.automobilia.com Carlo Brianza (ABC models) also has a web site www.abcbrianza.com

Bill Serri (car #29, pictured below, from the 1998 Alfa Romeo year at Concorso Italiano) , who owned one of the 1938 Mille Miglia cars (but I can't remember which one it is; I think it is either the winning or 3rd place car) passed away recently, and the car should soon be coming for sale soon..

Anyone wants to loan me the 4-5 million it will probibly fetch?...
