I will be going to my first grand prix at Indy this September !! hooorayyyyyyy. ... . Opinions please on best viewing locations. I am initially thinking of section H. Does a ticket include Friday practice and Saturday qualifying? I would like to find some fans around my generation (age 52) to sit with. Any engineering types who are not big drinkers?

Man are you old! Just kidding of course.....You can get a weekend pass for $125 and depending on what you want too see varies as to where you'll want to sit. We are in Section B directly across from the Ferrari garages which are the last (from left to right) on pit lane. We sit towards the begining of the bend on what is traditionally known as Turn 1 of the Indy500 track (this would be the end of the bend in the context of the USGP). The cars are flying and the sound bounces all over the place (best headache I've ever had and look very much forward to it!)

My suggestion is that you talk with some others here who may be able to provide you with some other perspectives and then decide for yourself. What we always do is use Friday to walk the entire track so as to find the perfect - and hopefully a different spot for Saturday Qualifying. Of course we also keep our eye out for better race day seats but have yet to find any more suitable then what we have had the last 2 years.

Have you ever been to the track? If not you are going to be AMAYZED at how big it is!

BTW - keep your eyes open for the USGP Meet & Greet that I'll be posting at the end of this month.

Hey, I've got 2 tickets for sale. Turn one, the Grand Prix turn one. I can't remember the section. I haven't received my tickets yet. I've pretty much sat all over during the past two years and think turn one is the best. Face value.

H and J are probably the best stands. If you're a Ferrari fan, Aprotinga has the kind of seats you want in "B". My seats are in the Paddock near the start/finish line. You might want to consider taking dick's offer unless there's more than 2 in your party.

BTW, I'm an engineering type who is not a big drinker. Alas I'm not in your generation, man. I'm of the 80's metal hair-band generation (age 33).

Also if you don't mind sitting next to a blue collar oil field hand and are only lookin for one ticket, I don't drink( 1 beer puts me to sleep) and could wouldn't be adverse to only selling one of my tickets.

Hey Indie,
How close to the start finnish line ? mine are in section 24 right across from the "gold" stands next to the podium, the ones with all the Ferrari girls( thats what my oldest son pointed out to me last year while he was checking them out(the girls, not the stands))third row up from the walkway.

I honestly can't tell you how close I am to the start/finish line because I upgraded to these seats. However what I can tell you is that my GP address will be Paddock, Sec. 5, Row BB, Seats 3 & 4. Judging from the picture on the back and knowing that they number their sections from south to north, I expect that these seats will place me in the neighborhood of row 4 on the starting grid. That's purely a guess.

Whoa dude, a person can't get much luckier than that indy! Am I showing my age by saying "Dude" Hope I didn't offend ya. It's just force of habit ,really, hanging out with my sons soccer club teamates( I'm the "wack Dad").

juan, Ive read in other threads that there are plenty of tickets available from scalpers at the track. read thru them for details.

Yes I know Misterbigge, but my main concern is that I will travel from DC by car with my wife and I don’t want any kind of surprise. That’s why I would like to purchase the tickets in advance.

Section B closest to Section A is where we sit and enjoy the seats very much.



Be sure to Park in Lot #2 as well - $50 weekend rate and that's where us Atlas folks will be grilling out before qualifying Saturday.

Thanks aport. Also I plan on attending qualifying on Saturday. What time does it start? What time does the race itself start? When will the tailgate grilling begin? And finally, does a 'daily admission' get me into qualifying and a 'race ticket' into the Sunday race?

The brickyard website is not very clear on these details! Thanks for any info. I'm looking forward to meeting atlas folks. I live in South Dakota and F1 fans are few and far between!

The brickyard website isn't clear on the details because the schedule for the daily events hasn't been completed yet. I called the speedway last week about this and they said to check in at www.usgpindy.com in mid-august.

As far as time of day, if its anything like the last 2 years, the first practice session will be at 9am and qualifications will be at 1pm.

Turn 1 is best for the race, no question. That's where it all happens, and theres a "Big Screen". I was in the infield last year, and while I had a good time, I missed most of the interesting stuff and found it tricky to follow the race (couldn't see who was in the pits etc).

I have to say that although I have sat all over the track (infield, nw vista, sw vista & paddock)during practice and qualifying, for the race I really prefer Stand A. The reality of modern F1 is that much of the action takes place in the pit and being across from them is fantastic. With all the big screens available you don't very much of the action on the track. For the icing on the cake you get to hear the incredible noise of F1 V10's concentrated in the man made canyon of the grandstands.

Congrats...you'll love the race. Stand H is good, as long as you can get in the higher rows. The Ferrari Club of America has their seats in the top 5 or 6 rows of H. You see the action at the first turn, all the passing, and into the infield....good seats. My seats (which I have advertised for sale as I am not able to go this year) are in the Paddock Pnthouse, on the outside of the track, across from the grid, podium and paddock. They're good, but you rely on the diamondvision screens to see the roadcourse action. Friday & Sat require separate tickets (you can buy a combo for $25). Enjoy the weekend...it's great! (Don't forget the earplugs).
For practice & qualifying, we walked the infield, watched from the different elevated grass mounds, and really enjoyed the different perspectives. Enjoy, Bill L., Buffalo NY

FYI - I think some were unsure of this years schedule for the GP weekend. Here is a link to the posted schedule. http://my.brickyard....hp?story_id=394.

For the record, all the F1 related activities are always at the same time (local time) for all events on the calendar. Exceptions are made for special circumstances. i.e. world cup.

Whoa! Hold on there! I just read somewhere in this thread that there are seats where Ferrari fans and whatnot sit? Theres actually an aloted seating for team fans?

I think the reference was to a specific Ferrari club that sits together. There are Ferrari fans everywhere and they don't necessarily sit in one place. On Sunday the main straight is a sea of red, you'd think you were at Monza.

I have a friend who is in a bit of a ticket quandry for the US GP.

He has a choice of selecting from the C row of the Northwest Vista, or choosing from rows MM or row HH of the North Vista.
His preference is to sit as high as possible, but does not know the numbering convention to make a decision.
Does anybody here know, from these rows, which is the highest, and which the lowest.

For anyone interested, I've started, for my own benefit, a speadsheet with a grandstand map indicating the seating of Atlas F1 members at the USGP. Let me know if you want to be indicated on the sheet and/or want a copy of it, and I'll transmit it to anyone who will be attending in case anyone wants to meet before, during or after the race.
