the demonstration run will take place on Friday 27, and the American will drive the spare Mercedes-powered MP4-17
Perhaps she can replace DC for the race, given that he thinks he has no chance in hell of winning.

Didn't Eddie Irvine say something similar recently? He was asked if he would drive in the IRL after his F1 career finished and he answered something like "No way, driving in a series where pole was set by a woman recently says it all really". I guess Eddie won't be cuddling up to her then that weekend

Where the hell is that 2-seater? That would be quite a show with Eddie or DC in the back! BTW, Eddie, pole positions are often set by women.Originally posted by Bumper

Its just that sarah fisher very evidently isnt even close to being it.

what evidence ? I dont belive that she has ever competed on a road circuit, so I dont understand what evidence there is to suggest that she wont be a competitative entrant.

OK, for those who don't read F1 Racing, the guy refers to Ron Dennis (and what he said about Fisher and what is needed when driving ovals vs. road courses, in an interview...)

Am I mean to believe that the majority of the grid were not competitative when they began their carrers ?
its not likely, but One season of Formula 3 might be all thats nessercarry to prepare Sarah Fisher for Formula One.
I know how bad I spell, thank-youOh and "belive" is spelt wrong FP

- Ron Dennis tells the press he has already asked Adrian Newey to design a new aero device, utilising Sarah Fischer's breasts.
- Eddie Irvine was seen comming out of McLarens motor home saying, "me and sarah had a conversation on what position she would like to start the sex... ummm race".
- Ferrari angered because McLaren is getting most of the attention from the media because they have a female driver, has now asked Rubens to grow breasts.
- Three cameramens have been fired today after they repeatly zoomed in on Sarah Fischer breasts while she drove over the very high and bumby Monza kerbs.
In other news
- DC is angry after the team decided they would fire him. DC now does commercials for the latests videogame console, the Nintendo 'Gamecube'.

Zero road circuit experience. that is exatcly what I am saying.Originally posted by baddog
someone with ZERO road circuit experience, and who is mediocre in the IRL? come on flying panda (and tomocek). If she was the real deal Id be singing her praises to the rooftops.
Dont write her off before she even gets in the car, the results could be surprising.
mediocre in the IRL. SO WHAT ? Oval and Circuit racing are two very different types of driving, and both take a great about of skill in order to be successful.
Being good at road racing in no way means you will be a good oval racer, just as being a good oval racer doesnt mean you'll be a good road racer. And it also mean that just beacuse your not good at one, doesnt meant that you wont be good at the other.
Nothing but a marketing stunt ?
I absolutley agree. If they serioesly wanted to test her, they'd take her to Silverston or Valencia, whouldnt they ?
Dont get me wrong, I dont expect her to be the next Raikkonen or anything, maybe not even the next Mazzacane, I just dont think that its fair that she gets such criticizm before she even gets into the car.

Isnt she one of, if not, the most popular driver in the IRL ?Originally posted by Clatter
Part of the reason for this stunt is to try and increase the interest in F1 in America, does anyone truly believe this will be the case?
I cant see why anyone would give a damn.

So what if she's driving the Mclaren! They are not testing her for a full-time ride - it's a DEMONSTRATION!!!

I dont know. But is the viewer base for IRL very large?
I've only seen a couple of races on tv myself and they really bored me, but the crowds looked non-existent.

well I have no road circuit experience, so do I get a shot?
if someone is mediocre on ovals, and has no road circuit experience, that would place them about 50014th in the list of people who should be sitting in an f1 car. It isnt about criticising her, hell she is taking whats offered and who wouldnt do the same. its about recognising what is in front of your face.

Well, to quote a female open wheel racer who I interviewed last year, who, when asked if she doesn't get fed up with the criticism she gets because she's a woman: "Well, it doesn't piss me off more than the knowledge that many female racers also raise positive media interest just because of their gender. If a female racer ever is to race on the top level she should do that because of her merits and not gender...[talking 'bout sponsorship]..I bet you'd find the % of girls getting sponsorship compared to the guys is higher. For example, there may be only 3 girls and 1 will get it. That's 33%. There are probably 100 guys and out of that only a handful are getting support. I can't imagine it's discrimination.
Finding sponsors is a huge amount of hard work.."
Would Sara Fisher have got that chance to drive the McLaren F1 car if she was a man racing in the mid-field in IRL? Don't thinks so.. I think it's quite pathetic how some of the guys rave about this person, just because she is a woman and not really based on her achievements (other than making it to IRL as a woman)...

what happens if she damages the equipment? What happens to Kimi or DC? I don't like this.
AFAIK Sarah will 'compensate' them.

But if this is just media shunt, to do some american promotion for F1 I can understand Bernie.
I reckon even Yoong would spank her.
Hard to believe Yoong could be superior to any professional racer, he is that bad.

a demonstration surely is held at a non-GP event not a third of the way through the show. Hope F1 isnt turning American on us that would be awful... talking of which how many safety car periods do you think they will run during the actual race ? I bet 2 at least.

You can blame TAG Hauer for this one, not TG. Fisher recently signed a sponsorship deal with them in case you missed it. Hell, McLaren have obviously agreed to go along with the whole ordeal, so I would say they are doing more to "make a mockery" of F1 than anyone else...

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see a woman in F1, but I'm sure there are women in F3 and other OW series that are much more deserving of a test.
Of course, THIS ISN'T A TEST. IT'S A PUBLICITY STUNT.
That being said, you do have to hand it to Sarah for being in the right place at the right time.

And watch out DC, she after you ..

Irony of this whole thing is that Sarah Fisher is a first USA driver at F1 in decade. Not only she's woman but she has never take right hand corner. Says something about quality of racing in USA.

Give her a chance guys! I doubt McLaren would let her drive the car flat out anyway. This is not a try-out as much as I'd like to wish it were. Its only a publicity stunt, and a very good one I might add. Just look at how much we're talking about it before its even happened.
