I got GP4 a few weeks ago, but waited till I got a decent 3D accelerator board to actually try and play it.

Last week I managed to up my system to the following specs:

Celeron 1.2Ghz
256 Mb RAM
64Mb Ge-Force 2 MX400

BUT...

To my surprise and utterly disgust, the game still feels and looks sloooooow.... I mean, with those specs I though I´d have at least a decent frame-rate. Even when I set it up to "automatic detail level" the game still plays very slow.

HELP! :)

Am I doing something wrong, or is the fault with my system, which can´t handle GP4 at all?

Well you can adjust the detail level yourself for smoother action.

And your system ain't the best on the grid. ( 3D card)

My specs are similar to yours:

1.2 Athlon
256 RAM
GeForce 2 32MB GTS

My frame rates are "OK" - about 25FPS and a PO which is around 80 during a race.

Don't use the automatic setup - it sucks. I have most things set to medium (except for textures - I like the cars to look sharp). For a big PO hit the mirrors are the thing. I have it set to cars only.

Hope this helps. There is heaps more info on getting your GP4 to run better on other BB's such as High Gear & Alpha F1, but you have to sort the good advice from the bad & experiment to find your ideal setups.

thanks!

I think my frame rate is about 18fps, which sucks to say the least. :)

I´ll try to tweak it and see how it goes.

btw, do you use a wheel? I´ve been thinking about getting one....I know there are threads on this, but I´m too lazy to search.:p

Yeah - I use a wheel. Used to have a crappy MadCatz, but have just ordered a Thrustmaster Mondena Pro which is arriving this week.

I would not use anything other than a wheel. They keyboard sucks and I remember smashing at least 2 joysticks playing GP2!

The other thing to note in GP4 is the FPS test. The first time you run it you will always get a crappy result (I usually get 18 FPS). The second time on the test I will get 23 & then the 3rd time 25. Why? - I dunno!

What drivers are you using? Sometimes the drivers built into Windows do not support full HW acceleration. Try installing nVidia's TNT drivers and see if that helps.

System is ok, the video card is crap though - should of bought the lower end GeForce4, around $160 now - if not, get one of the ti's.

The latest drivers give you about 20% more power or so they claim - they are better though.
