I'm reasonably sure it was written especially for that intro, and it's only those few seconds long, rather than being a full song. Chris Rea springs to mind, but I don't know why.

I always thought it was a variation of Radar Love by Golden Earring.

yeah, but its only a tiny bit off the end of that song. The rest of the song sounds completely different.

The FIA Formula one theme is an original composition AFAIK it was commissioned by the Bernie organisation many years ago. The Chain is a two part song (I still like the first section) The BBC "theme" element still sends shiver down my spine every time.

dum...... du du dum du du dududu... dum............. (Is that right?) could be my new sig (applies to most of what I post anyway ;) )

Its a tape recording of bernie ecclestone talking, played backwards at a speed three times slower than normal.

They play different songs for certain occasions.

I remember after Alex Yoong's first race, they played "Don't go away mad, just go away".

what drives me nuts is the horrible sounding electric gtr/wah intro they play when the FIA splash logo gets put up. got to be the worst electric guitar I've ever heard.

give me jamiroquai over that crap anyday!

That was the old itv intro that they dropped after two years. Don't know if he did the new one too.
I think the original question is about the FIA jingle that umma gumma doesn't like. I agree the guitar is a bit twangy, but it's catchy.
BTW anybody know when it first appeared? Must be at least ten years ago now?

Opps, it's London Weekend television,

The program makers are Mach One Productions, the intro tune was originally Jamiroqui, then Black Beat or Back Beat by Apollo 440, Jan 2000, a special composition and recording... and whether this is the same now or by whom, I won't find out until tomorrow.. speaking the the show co-ordinator.

speaking of the intro, as well as the whole presentation, when the hell are they going to update the whole thing? that guitar song sounds like something mister mister came out with in 1987, and those graphics are dustier than my grandmother's attic. the graphics on the digital feed are decent- but the world feed- i think they've got some guy cranking those out of a commodore 64. my local cable access channel's broadcast of high school basketball has better graphics.

in summary: the graphics suck.

as the young lady said " It's not commercially available, but it was recorded by Alpha 440 especially for the program, they are formula one fans."

So, there you go.

Shoofirbin, does that means you don't like it.
