I was born during the first half of the previous century - so I've been around for a while. I spent over three decades racing and rallying, and have been an avid follower of motor racing and it's personalities.

The first driver I followed with real interest was Fangio, but I deeply regretted Ascari's passing. My first hero was Jim Clark ..... and so on. But, for me, easily the most memorable race driver has to be Michael Schumacher. Granted, he's still racing - but nowhere does it state you have to be dead or retired to be legendary.

All this B.S., and no mention of Jim Clark!

You must have a story to go with that, Buford...

I'm sure Harry Schell had a better one though.

Kpy... Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant!

But you do it so much better...

Did you happen to hear him make any comment about that Mickey Thompson car that tried to kill him, by the way?

Yes, a real character...

And he was mentioned on another thread just today... hardly forgotten!

No not me. I was about 15 years old and could not get into the pits or garage area in those days. So I never talked to him much and when I did it was in a fan bunch of autograph seekers. I never had dinner with him like I did Clark and Gurney or anything like that. But just the jumping out of cars thing has to make him the most memorable, IMO.
