The first driver I followed with real interest was Fangio, but I deeply regretted Ascari's passing. My first hero was Jim Clark ..... and so on. But, for me, easily the most memorable race driver has to be Michael Schumacher. Granted, he's still racing - but nowhere does it state you have to be dead or retired to be legendary.

No not me. I was about 15 years old and could not get into the pits or garage area in those days. So I never talked to him much and when I did it was in a fan bunch of autograph seekers. I never had dinner with him like I did Clark and Gurney or anything like that. But just the jumping out of cars thing has to make him the most memorable, IMO.
