Greg Moore's family has been denied in court.

IMHO that was the right decision.

That was just silly to bring that to court. They know the risks of racing at 230 MPH period!

As sad as it was, there was no justice to hand out. Good decision. Now all the courts have to do is throw out the BILLION $ settlements to smokers who get sick.

I'm not in favor of this litigation, but I also turned down an invite to the California 500 because those stupid bastards still won't pave the infield. It had been recommended before the grass set up Greg's fatal crash.

They paved a large part of it, the exit of 2 for sure. They should do the rest, is that what you mean?

I have a feeling that a lawsuit was brought up because of the insurance claims.
Ric Moore knew the risks involved so I doubt very much this lawsuit was his wish.

Maybe they were using old file footage in the commercial for the race that offended me. As a racer, do you think they have fully addressed the problem, or did they just fix the section where someone has already been killed?

Well the next year Christian lost it and slid onto the grass down the backstretch past the new paving and just about rolled it, so I would say no. Personally, I would rather see them pave it and paint it green! Many of the new short ovals, Erie Pennsylvania and Irwindale, CA (I think), have the whole infield paved. That's the way to go I think.

Irwindale is a tad different, it's much smaller for one thing and they run the legends on the inside 1/3 mile track. The infield is also used for figure eight racing, much as the old Saugus track.
The exit of turn three has been paved and that was the part the majority of the grass skipping accidents took place, so yes I would say that the track is a bit safer now,or as safe as a 240+MPH oval is gonna get.Turn three was a bitch, they came off high banks, dropped down to a flat back straight and it was also horror of horrors head on into the prevailing winds, which are pretty stout in that area since it's at the botto of a mountain pass.Bad enough the track drop off,but the wind played havoc with setups as well.
The front apron is still grass, but that is virtually a high banked straight away, the only cars that get into that are the stock cars and only then when someone punts them into it.
Shouldn't miss Fontana Todd,it's a mind blower how fast those things are there, and you can get close enough on the striaghts to feel the wind when they blow by.

Sadly I was there the day Greg died, and oddly enough the CART race I attended just prior to that one was at Laguna Seca was where Gonzalo Rodriguez also perished. For those that don't think racing deaths affect the drivers, the body language of Dario as he exited the car after losing both a very good freind in Greg and the championship to Montoya in one day was heartbreaking. He was absolutely gutted and you tell from a 100 feet away.
