I'm a casual F1 player and I'm more to arcade than simulation. My main use of F1 games is getting in the mood before each GP. So I left for others to decide if it's simulation mode is of any use or not and concentrate in arcade and quick game modes. I use pad, not wheel.
I like the looks of the game. Tracks are a lot more detailed than in the previous version.
Track map and directional arrows is available. Good graphics. When there's a lot of cars in the same picture the games slows down just slightly (not at all as much as in Pro/Toca Race Driver) .

Arcade was fun but quite easy. I'm no Räikkönen but when playing as Kimi I was able to win 11 races in arcade championship. I was able to clinch the title in Spa... It's notable that crashing an avful lot terminates the race. It is possible to spin if you take corners carelessly. Good driving feel for an arcade.
Quick game: better driving feel, actually quite good. You may pick your grid position. It's possible to adjust traction control and brake bias during the race. Harder opponents than in the arcade mode. Some of the tracks suck in the same way as the real ones: god, I hate some of the corners in Indianapolis and Malesia, not to mention Hungaroring. Monza seems very narrow. Weather seems to be random. Wet track is very slippery, so good physics in this sense.

I've started championship in simulation mode (semi-pro level). With no effort i was able to put myself third in qualification. In race I sucked big time, these bastards are driving quite fast... I have fooled around with the set ups but I'm yet to notice any meaningful difference. However, adding some wing seems to help keeping it on the right track. This seems challenging.

Pitting seems to be useless in shorter races and I'm too lazy to drive 54 laps in Melbourne park. Consider this as a problem... I haven't found anything considering race tactics.

There's AI cars in 2-player mode, which brings me joy...

Worth its price. Features Season 2001 Review DVD.
