I prefer speed to wit. If you have both, it is good, but F1 is about speed and will be even more so in the future.

I often laugh when I hear Kimi speak. It's not because I have anything against him or that I think he says stupid things, it's just his attitude. He gives the impression that every question he gets is the most boring one he's ever heard :smoking:

He sounds like a bored, humourless Mika.

Very quick, though.

 Yeah, I too find that aspect sooooo funny! This was especially true in his Sauber days, but McL PR machine has made him more open and polished in PR ways, unfortunately. KR has really been most amusing in this respect, he makes it look like F1 is all too easy and absolutely nothing is exciting. :) :)

The one that cracked me up once was something along the lines: "If I need to ask how to get through the corner, then maybe I shouldn't be here in the first place"

since he was more or less put into the hands of media right away, i didnt expect him to know what to say to the media.

then he is the king on the racetrack, so i dont care about if he is funny or not in the pr.

Mika boring? I dont think so!

Mika is a real character.
I remember watching a documentary on McLaren.
It was about Mika's first race, the race he out - qualified Senna.
In the garages he was seen making jokes and laughing with Ron Dennis, and when he was driving Ron somwhere, he tried to pick up this girl.
Ron laughed, and said this guy is going to be a handful.
The Mika we see at press conferences is not the real one, the real one is out going and has a real sense of humor.

Kimi on the other hand is just plain boring.
Its what keeps me from being a real fan of his.
For me, F1 is not just about seeing the drivers drive, its their personality also.
Or we may as well get computers to drive the cars.
Its the human behind the car that is interesting.

I didn't say mika was a full-time bore like Kimi (he actually made some great funny remarks), but if he wasn't joking he was the ultimate bore, like Kimi is always.....(Mika was boring in a funny way and made me think differently about boring people, and laugh about it! Kimi makes me laugh just because he is so amazingly extremely more boring even compared to a bored Mika on a bad day..)

Please prove me wrong with a hilarious Kimi quote...!!

dan2k. I have seen the same document.

The part that really cracked me up was when Mika was leaving the pits during practise/qual.

While he was going on pit straight he replied to the radio:"10-4, 10-4, roger that, roger that!" (He had probably heard that expression from some movie or so)

Ron Dennis told back to the radio:"Mika, like I told you, this is NOT a police radio!"

Mechanics almost wet themselves...

I don't understand why one cannot say that Kimi is boring, even if one of the best drivers in F1. Then again, you read who posted, and you get the point....

"He gives the impression that every question he gets is the most boring one he's ever heard"

Maybe, but one gets the impression that when he answers his answer is the most boring one has heard...... I didn't think someone could get more boringthan Ralf, but Kimi proved me wrong.

It's a bit of a paradox, but I think that the fact that he is so extremely boring actually is very, very funny - and thus not boring :drunk:

Can´t believe you guys are still buying it, Kimi is no human being. He´s a racing cyborg that has been secretly developed by mclaren (subisidiary of Skynet Co.) over the last few years. His year at Sauber was just beta-testing, for which the swiss team was duly paid. Mclaren engineers are worried however because even though the project´s driving abilities are developing nicely, the personality software is still a very early alpha, which is putting the secrecy of the project under threat. That´s why they enduced so many retirements to his car last season, the goal was to keep him away from press conferences at all costs in order to avoid raising further suspicion. Beware though, as for the next version due the beginning of this season, project Raikkonen will already overcome the efficiency of any human driver. Also, in order to make his personality traits more convincing, the engineers will revert back to some the old code from Mika Hakkinen´s brain, which in reality were severe software flaws that for some reason gave people the impression of a witty and funny persona. After Deep Blue, Raikkonen will represent the next step towards machine domination over humanity.

Mika did have a singular, dry wit in his comments. Kimi, on the other hand, is still young and was thrust into the media frenzy of F1 rather quickly. Once you see him in more qualifying and podium press conferences, I think you'll see him losen up a bit.

Kimi is my equal favourite driver, so I will try to defend him a little bit. If anyone read F1 Racing a few months ago you would have seen that a journalis went to interview Kimi at the Hungaroring, and got into the back of Kimis Mercedes. Kimi then decided he would push his seat as fa back and reclined as he possibly could, whilst crushing the poor journalists knees. And yes, he did realise what he was doing ;).

Kimi is only young. Give him time, and anyhow, Finns are not naturally eccentric people. All I care about is that he drives the wheels off his F1 cars, and he brings back fond memories of a certain, much-missed French-Canadian.

Anyway, m other favourite driver is Jacques Villeneuve, so I probably need to balance up the ego's of my favourite drivers a bit anyway

He sure can drive, but he ain't no Gilles. Their styles are very different, Kimi is fast but not ragged. Maybe without TC and all, but I would expect JPM to drive closer to Gilles than Kimi

Kimi was born as the boring type, its his personality.
At least he is not boring on track.
I preffer drivers with abit of personality.
You hardly ever read much interviews or hear much of anything interesting from Kimi, which is disapointing for his fans.
I think only finish people could like his persoanlity, most people like him for his driving abilities but.
Well... Boring people seem to stick to boring people. I think most Kimi fans are a bunch of boring people.

Boring... who on the current grid is actually funny? Rubens and Schumy laugh a lot, they make jokes, are they funny? Not IMO. DC can be quite funny at times, at least he can be sarcastic, wich is usually funny. HHF is funny. JPM seem to have good humour, but I can't recall any special funny thing he said, but I sure it will be possible to make a "JPM funny quotes" page in the future.
Villenueve does not seem to be a funny guy at all, I might be wrong. Irvine talks a lot of s**t but is also funny. My "top funny" list would be something like (current drivers and testdrivers)

DC

HHF

EI (He might not be a current driver, but that is not known at this time)

JPM

McNish (he is a Scot after all, they ARE funny)
But let's face it - F1 drivers are not comedians.

The Ferrari drivers seem to be the ones who TRIES to be funny, but their "jokes" does net feel either spontanous or innovative.

Kimi... give him some time to get comfortable with english, some wins so he get's comfortable with the spotlight and he might prove that he is a funny guy. Unless he really IS a cyborg, then he will propably be banned by the new FIA rules.

Just one:
In an interview with former Team Prost driver Olivier Panis, the interviewers and Olivier took a taxi cab in London. Olivier said: "I love these taxis". The interviewer: "But they're even slower than a '98 Prost". Olivier answered laughing: "Yes, but not much slower!"

Hey, that's actually a good one!

Here's one about Kimi:

In Monaco 2001 Ronzo met Kimi and half-joked about if Kimi would sometimes drive in Mac Laren (remember that Mika told Ron about his retirement in that peticular weekend).
Kimi: Why not - but your car is not fast enough at the moment.

 Those few that were present told that RD seemed pissed first but he was later quite impressed about the fearless rookie.

OK, my point was that besides few exceptions - DC, EI and sometimes even MS - there are not much laughter in F1.

I have to agree with Kimi being a bore in terms of F1 publicity. Of course we have no idea how he is in private. But quite frankly how he is in private OR in F1 publicity doesn't really concern me much at all, just his driving. The cool thing is, though, that he seems pretty much impregnable so that when a WDC fight is on and someone (MS, JPM?) try to psych him, it just won't have any effect whatsoever, except maybe the rebound might actually work against the original intent. :)

Kimi is not really boring.
He's just an adept of the Kierkegaad dialectics.
That says, in brief:
God was bored.
then decided to create the universe.
God created earth, man and woman.
The woman got bored and decided to eat the forbiden fruit.
And so on...

Boreness moves the world.

F1 has being boring for a looong time. :o
Almost boring to death.
Now thing are starting to happen.

Kimi will conquer WDC by being boring. :p
It doesn't mean he is boring. :
It's just a stage to achieve satisfaction.

What is Kimi like in Finnish? Anyways, I think it's a bit harsh of people to label Kimi boring. He should be who he is, rather than trying to falsely act humourously to be popular.

I can't understand why some people care about how the drivers are outside of the cockpit. I mean, I could understand it if you disliked a driver if he said that he was a fan of Hitler or something of that magnitude, but just because he's boring...

I mean; come on - isn't his driving skills the most important thing?

And when it comes to driving skills, few current drivers hold a candle to Räikkönen.

I agree!!

I like exciting drivers ON the track. What they do outside the track doesn't bother me at all.
I mean we could all find unwanted personality traits in every single driver.
"Kimi is too quiet"
"MS repeats the word honestly too much"
"JPM says you know very often"
etc etc etc

But who cares? Not me at least...

Yes, but Gilles was very smooth too. Sadly all people remember when it comes to Gilles are Zandvoort 79, Imola 80 etc. Look at Gilles' wins in South Africa anmd Long Beach in 1979, or in Monaco and Spain in '81. He was silky smooth on each occasion. The only times he needed to be ragged was when his rather disasterously poor Ferrari's chassis decided to warp and twist and make thing difficult for him (Montreal practice - 1981 for example).

Kimi is also smooth, but like Gilles you can see that he really is on the edge. They are smooth in their inputs, but boy you can see the car working like heck. Look at Kimi in Spa this season, or Hockenheim or Hungary. Heck, most of his performances this season. He looks smooth, but he is pushing to the limit, just like Gilles. And I suspect this years McLaren MP4-17 was a lot easier to drive than Gilles' 312T5 and 126C cars

JPM is also in the same mould, but I think Kimi pushes just that little bit harder in race conditions.
