Hello @ all,
...i think it's worth a thread and i'm certainly not the only one who loves collecting model cars in this forum. As the responds on Barry Boor's thread shows, there is interest in that topic....

Show us what you've got....
your whole collection....your favourite model....the oldest model you have....the model that is worth the most...the rarest model...the most unusual one you have....handbuilts...slotcars...diecast...plastic...what ever you think it's worth showing other modelcar enthusiasts.....

unfortunately my collection is about 20000km nort-west of where i am living now *sniff*...and i miss it alot.....help a poor fellow to get over the loss of his own collection by showing what you've got......looking forward *slobber*
cheers Marty

Well, can't show them...but from the last about 25 years of my life (1/43 diecast) - ( grown up period more or less ....some would say VERY much less  ), I'd like to mention some very nice Ferrari's from Art Models 166, 206 S, 500 TR, and Best, 250 TR, 250 LM, and from others.... nahh better make a short ct here....Among jewels from my ( original )childhood is...The Porsche 917 collection from Solido, Ferrari 512 S, Matra 650 and a lot of other from Solido. Think maybe my Dinky Matra 630 ( with rubber tires) is worth a look, as is for the nostalgie, my GTB 275 also Dinky. A very exotic bird in theese parts of Europe I think is an 60'es Politoys Alfa Romeo Giaguaro Coupe. It's SO nice, chromed gearlever, very detailed interior, sparewheel in the luggage room, visible through the rear window, and an oh so nice engine. Incredible it was meant as a childrens toy....and incredible how ugly the politoys models were a few years later....

Well got carried away he he ....better stop here, before I start mentioning my old E type from Corgi and ( shortened by some editor )

:)

Not really old rubbish what I have on the third floor of my 25-car Garage. After many years I finally acquired Marcel Renault's 30 hp Voiturette in which he lost his life at the 1903 Paris–Madrid race. Only after the Gendarmerie Français released the car many years ago, was I able to totally rebuilt it, except the engine is not yet running because of fuel mixture problems. I just can't seem to get it right in the tropical climate of Hawai'i! ;)

I don't have any pics but...

Gilles Villeneuve's 312T4 from Exoto (Watkins Glen race) is the crown jewel by far.

Jacques Villeneuve's cars from the FW18 to the BAR Honda 03 from Paul's Model Art/Minichamps.

Mika Hakkinen MP4-15 from Hotwheels.

Micheal Shumacher's F2002 Premiere Edition (F2001 with Vodafone) as well as Ferrari's 150th GP win, both form Hotwheels

A handful of street cars from Auto Art, including James Bond's 'For Your Eyes Only' Lotus Esprit and also his Toyota 2000GT.

A signed Ron Fellows 2001 Le Mans C5-R and the 2000 Le Mans Viper, also from Auto Art.

I don't have many old ones... Corvette Grand Sport by Eagles Race (1/43) probably takes the cake as far as nostalgia is concerned. Oh, and 427 Cobra 1/18 form Kyosho.

There's too many to list!

I don't have many models but one is a bit special. It's a Peugeot 205 Turbo Group B rally car that has been signed by Timo Salonen and Ari Vatanen. I won it in a photographic competition for the best photo of a Peugeot in the 1985 Rally of New Zealand.

I am afraid I am unable to post a picture, and in any event, I mainly collect 1:43 roadcars.

However, recently, I could not resist the CMC 1:43 Mercedes-Benz Renntransporter. To finish it off, I also bought the Minichamps Mercedes-Benz 300SLR #19 Le Mans 1955 Fangio/Moss. Along with an earlier purchase, a Schuco Mercedes-Benz L6600 Truck in M-B livery, they look very impressive.

My collection is strictly Grand prix cars built from kits, mostly in 1/43 scale. I used to build Tamiya's plastic 1/20 Formula 1 cars but after experiencig work with metal models don't have intention to return to plastic.
These are some pics of my collection. All except Ferrari F2001 (Tameo 1/24) are 1/43 and built by myself since 1999:

1958 Ferrari 246, Mike Hawthorn, 2nd place Italian Grand Prix, kit by SRC
Posted Image

1961 Ferrari 156, Wolfgang von Trips, winner British Grand prix, kit by SRC
Posted Image

1955 Mercedes W196, Stirling Moss, winner British Grand Prix, kit by SRC
Posted Image

1970 Lotus 72C, Jochen Rindt, winner British Grand Prix, kit by SRC
Posted Image

1978 Lotus 79, Mario Andretti, winner French Grand Prix, kit by Tameo
Posted Image

1985 Lotus 97T, Ayrton Senna, 1st Portuguese Grand Prix qualifying (see slick tyres), kit by Tameo
Posted Image

1972 Ferrari 312B3 Spazzaneve, Arturo Merzario (IIRC), test car Monza
Posted Image

2001 Ferrari F2001, Michael Schumacher, winner Australian Grand prix, kit by Tameo
Posted Image

and finally, currently building:
1996 Ferrari F310, Michael Schumacher, winner Italian Grand Prix, kit by BBR
Posted Image

Models are far from perfect but I'm improving.
There are more but not photographed yet: Brabham BT52B, Ferrari F399, Ferrari F1-2000, Ferrari 156-85, Ferrari 126C3, Ferrari 641/2.....still unbuilt are Ferrari F300, Ferrari 312T, several Lotuses 72 from different years (one in 1/20), Benetton B190, Brabham BT52, Brabham BT55 and Ferrari-Lancia D50A streamliner.

My Dad collected coins, almost all his life. I honestly couldn't understand his fascination, how he could sit and look at them in their albums and individually, inspecting them over and over. In fact, that was what he was doing at the moment we heard of the bombing of Pearl Harbor: every Sunday morning we (I was nearly four years old) would walk to the corner gasoline station at 30th and Figueroa, Los Angeles, where he would buy the owner's unsorted pennies and a newspaper. We'd come home and check the pennies for collectibles and listen to the Sunday funnies on the radio.

A little less than a year ago I had what I thought was a brilliant idea: why not find a model of each car I'd owned, or my family had owned? I decided on 1:43 scale as less consumptive of space, while allowing considerable detail, as well as offering a greater spread of availibility. So the Quest was on. You will be able to see it widened a little from the original "owned" premise to include cars I'd had contact with, or admired, or even had some kind of a fantasy about. Some of the connections are pretty tenuous, and some have not been set out on the pages yet, although they have motive force at some level in my conscious, or unconscious, mind. Those latter must be the ones I "just like" for some reason.

Any road, I now appreciate where my Dad was when he sat shuffling amongst his coins, what he was feeling as he fingered a particularly satisfying acquisition, what was the attraction of having a "complete set", or the prospect of fulfilling such a goal.

One fact about the display cabinets: some of the photos are old and may not represent current status or content, which varies with mood, theme-of-the-week, and what the postman brings; however, the photos do represent a state actually present at one instant. That's what photos do.

You may start with many of my favorites, at
http://home.san.rr.c...ff/modcab2t.htm
and wander at your whim.

If I had to pick an absolute favorite, it would be the Austin-Healey by Starter, a representation of one of the 1953 entrants at Le Mans. The shape of the Healy Hundred still stirs my esthetic senses very strongly, and the idea of a near-production effort having such success is sort of a romantically fulfilling story. Somewhere I have photos sent me by the owner of one of the actual cars, from Australia. They and the Car Life article seem to indicate the blue of the model is likely correct in all but the underlying color, which should be green.

My favorite is a Mecedes T 80 record car (that never ran) by Western.
Done in the early 80s I think, before M-Bs lawyers halted the project, so I am told.

Ah, yes. That's where the handle gets replaced now and then, and a new sharp bit gets added when the old one wears out, and then occasionally it gets a new handle ....... but it's still the same old axe!

Nice axe.

My load of rubbish is behind me: tamiya 1/12 Lola T70-Aston, McLaren M23 and 1976 Ferrari 312T; a 1/24 Williams FW07 (Regazzoni); 2 Porsche 956's (Joest and Lloyd version); a few 1/24 Touring cars (what did you think?): Porsche 935/78, 934, Lancia Montecarlo, BMW M1, BMW 320 (Höttinger), Zakspeed Capri, Toyota Celica, VW Golf GTI, Escort II Zakspeed, BMW 635 CSi and 1974 BMW CSL with starting #87, ex-worls colors, which I have not identified so far. Probabably the Finotto/Mohr car.
1/43, special modified section: 1975 Gelo Mirage, 1974 BMW 2002 Alpina (especially proud about that one, built from a Solido 2002 Turbo, looks absolutely right), a 1973 Grab Capri, a 1976 Luigi CSL, 1973 and 1975 Kremer Porsche Carrera RSR.

I've never got into model collecting in a big way (there are some lovely ones that I covet badly - but they're soooo expensive) - but the favourites of my very modest collection are 'Marsh Models' 1/43rds - two different ones of 2F-001; 2F-002; 2D (the '66 Nurburgring car); and the Gurney/Grant Ford MkII from Sebring '66.
I'm not a big Ford GT fan, but it's a lovely model (almost as nice as the Chaparrals!) and it was given to me by my colleagues as leaving present from a job I left many years back. And of course it is an historical complement to the 2D.
If I can ever work out how to use my webspace I'll post a piccie... and if benrapp's lead is followed, possibly one of my 1:1 piece of rubbish at Spa too! (Perhaps that should be a separate thread - if it doesn't seem too much like showing off).

Does anyone remember Entex/Monogram?
They made two models that I've always wanted and have never been able to find.
The 1st was a 1/8th scale model of the 1974, I think, Martini Porsche 911 turbo. The second was a McLaren M23, also in 1/8th scale.
If anyone has one of these gathering dust, please let me know.

Cheers

hoo boy - now you've done it....

I have about - oh, I dunno, getting towards 400 cars.

Theme? Eclectic. I have about 150 1/64 NASCARs, mostly HotWheels and Racing Champions.

I have a heap of Aussie V8 Supercars and Touring Cars, from Classic Carlectables, Trax and Biante.

Le Mans and Can Am sports cars. Including several Ford GT 40s, 917s and Ferraris. 1960s Formula One, Ferrari 156, Lotus 49, Ferrari 312, F89, Cooper T53 (x2, Moss and Brabham).

I also have quite a few HotWheels sports cars. They have some really interesting stuff, like a Cunningham C4-R, Lancia Stratos, Ferrari 512, Porsche 911 GT1, Panoz, Viper GTR.

Most of my models are smaller scale, simply for the room.

I too am collecting a set of "one of everything", for my Dad. Gee, he's had some weird crap! Renault 4CV, VW Type 3 wagon, several Type 1s, lotsa Holdens of course, odd Vanguards and Vauxhalls, a Mk iv Jag that is now landfill (I know, I know)

Best bit is, I get to write a column in Motor Racing Australia about model cars, meaning all my purchases are tax deductions.

For some reason I can't insert pictures. Probably just as well.

I am approaching 1.000 models in all scales and of all types... Favorites? If pushed hard I would probably opt for a Lone Star 1/64 dark red Toyota 2000 GT (well used, quite a lot of paint is missing). Other favs are most of all Mercury and Politoys models, including one previously mentioned here as Alfa Romeo Giagiuaro but suspiciously similar in description to my Canguro... An old no-name tin toy of Mercedes 300 Adenauer is great too (big red one, around 1/20 scale)... I have to borrow a digital camera and post it somewhere.

Bruce, You're probably trying to post them from Your hard disk, which is impossible... They have to be uploaded to the Internet, and then You post the link. In case You don't have the web-space to do so, You could mail them to me ( wolf@email.atlasf1.com ), and I can post them. Same goes to You Dino, once You have the pics.;)

On second thought, I retract the offer to Dino. He is eligible for AtlasF1 email and web-space (10MB), by virtue of having more than 1k posts...;)

I agree. I asked tor that web space more than one month ago but didn't have time to upload anything so far. But watch this space - soon I'll have a 24/7 connection from home and could do something about it. Right now, from office, it is much harder... And much morre dangerous if my boss is watching!

Some very impressive model collections some of you have. I used to build up some pretty nice car models as a kid, enter shows and stuff. Later, I had an extensive collection of Buddy L's, acquired from the Harrah's collection sale. But they went away with the separation my partner in the restoration co.

My collection of 43rd scale diecast numbers about 90, equally spread between 1950s open sports racing cars and 1950s Grand Prix cars (I let the latter group creep into the 60s so that I can incluse sharknoses and Dan's Porsche 804!)

But I make a few 43rd kits as well - always looking for the unusual that the diecast manufacturers don't make, like these...

OK, how do the manufacturers go about it , then?

Do they get access to real drawings, or do they go by reck ot' th'eye, as they say here in Lancashire?

Good question! Next question?

Seriously, I don't know how they do it. All I can say is that I have rarely, if ever, seen either a 43rd scale model or diecast that looked visibly 'wrong'. There again, dimensions-wise!!! I couldn't say how accurate they are.

I just love to look at them.

Making casts? This I know a little bit about, through my column.

The good companies work closely with manufactuers, spending hundreds of hours measuring, drawing, getting pictures and then checking it all. A 1/43 scale mould will cost about half a million dollars (Australian) to make up.

Still, sometimes the proportions are out, or the scaling isn't quite right. A 1/64 mould "only" costs about $70K!

I wonder how good a model would look without that access and research. Oh, of course, "Matchbox!"

Feh

I replied before the photos loaded.

Love the models BTW. I'd hope they had access to a real car or two. Otherwise, it would be guesstimation and lots of photos. Maybe the original drawings, too. Be bloody hard, I would think.

This sort of rubbish?

Complete history from new, originally owned by Steve Earle. 875k... The last quoted price I heard for Grandmothers was 250k shy of that figure...

..... oops, they just sold it! Looks like someone else sold their Grandmother before you! Pretty stiff price for a non-original engined, color-changed car!

This one would do me, even though it's a fake built on a GTE:

I'd rather have the original from which it's copied, though...

Congratulations Barry on another "knockout" model. It is very impressive.

Monza, 1956?

Barry, where do you find the time to do all these things?

Moss' overall and Fangio's helmet ....

I'm not that much of a stickler! In fact, as the car has not run yet, I have not numbered it - hence the 'T'. I plan to 'take' it to Reims in a couple of weeks and run it in practice but if it races and who drives it will depend on the performance level. It will be 'passed down' through the team, possibly eventually ending up with Herrmann - or not run at all. So the light blue driver is just an anyone colour really.

where do you find the time to do all these things?

Well, Ray, I'm off work at present (and have been since September 26th) awaiting retirement from teaching on the grounds that I can't cope with the little b******s any longer. So I have a lot of time to myself these days.

Just one more question then, Barry...

How often does your Welsh Wife tell you you're mad?

Not nearly as often as my not-at-all-Welsh Wife tells me, and I don't even spend interminable hours working on toys, uploading stuff to websites etc.

I guess I now know where I made my mistake...
