...don't you dare say "through her spectacles..." either!
Barry, when I'm on the phone to some 87yo who raced in the thirties, asking about things I need for a story I'm researching, I'm told that I'm "waffling on." Would such a woman see your little cars as other than toys?

When 'er indoors tells you that you're waffling on, there's only one sensible reply: "Speaking about waffles, have you got mine on the cooker yet? And I want more syrup this time."

If you're smart, you make your work a game too. In other words, she got that one right... but how did she ever survive the aftermath of taking those 'toys' to work?

Although I do own a Bob Morris / John Fitzpatrick Holden Torana LH L34, the car that won Bathurst without winning it, supposedly. I'll stop at one. I did buy a recently Dick Johnson collection Ford Sierra RS500 only for it to be sold before I could collect it. Not happy Jan.
I'm less reticent about buying plastic kits. Sitting on my dispay shelf are,
Alan Jones Williams FW07B Cosworth
Nigel Mansell Williams FW11 Honda
Nigel Mansell Ferrari 640-2
Alessandro Nannini Benetton B189 Cosworth
Eric Bernard Larrousse LC90 Lamborghini
Ivan Capelli March CG901 Judd
Stefano Modena Tyrrell 020B Mugen-Honda
Rickard Rydell Volvo 850 Estate
Dick Johnson Ford Sierra RS500
Glenn Seton Ford Sierra RS500
and under construction
Johnny Herbert / Volker Weidler / Bertrand Gachot Mazda 787B
theres quite a list qwaiting to be built inlcuding a Zakspeed 891 Yamaha

Oh there's another car on the end.
It's a Ligier JS11/15 Matra which unfolds into a robot called 'Mirage' who claims he would be much happier hunting foxes on his home world than fighting as a warrior on Earth.

I guess the ability to form arms, legs a head, carry a shoulder fired missile launcher and a snipers rifle (how can those weapons compliment each other???) was considered more important. But it's kitsch and kinda cute. As a Datsun Z fan I'd love to get hold of one of the 'Z' robots. The Police Car version looks cool but there's a another in vaguely Peter Brock Datsun Zed racing colours called 'Smokescreen'.
Or Maybe the Martini Porsche 935..... or the Lancia Stratos......

I bought this Renaissance resin kit of the Lancia D.50 about 4 years ago. Everything went well with the building until it came to drilling the numerous holes in the body to insert the brackets that hold the side tanks. I looked at it dozens of times, then quietly put it away again....
Having purchased a couple of new kits recently, I thought I had better complete this one, so in the last week I have finally finished it off.
Don't be fooled - it is a poor job! What you cannot see is that the right rear wheel is sitting on a piece of plasticine in order that the front wheels are both touching the ground. (I ALWAYS have trouble getting these resin kits to sit square on the floor!)
Also, there are the usual bodges and fiddles that I always seem to have to do when making these 43rd scale kits.
Anyway, now it's on to my 2 new kits... a Porsche 718 F.1 and the 1955 Vanwall.

Probabably the Finotto/Mohr car.
1/43, special modified section: 1975 Gelo Mirage, 1974 BMW 2002 Alpina (especially proud about that one, built from a Solido 2002 Turbo, looks absolutely right), a 1973 Grab Capri, a 1976 Luigi CSL, 1973 and 1975 Kremer Porsche Carrera RSR.
By the way, the #87 BMW is identified now as a 1974 Le Mans entry. And I do have a digital camera now. I might bore you one day with pictures

I have a Resin kit of a BMW 2002...never touched it and i'm not sure if i ever will. When i first bought it i thought i might be skillfull enough to build it but as soon as i opened the box i knew i am not....

Just found a couple of nice Plastic kits on the Internet....PROTAR 1:9 Classik Bike Kits.
I'll get one for X-mas and I can't wait till it's here...I found a site from japan where you can replace heaps of parts of those models....unbelievable...the japanese modellers are absolutely stunning.

I've built static kits for 40+ years from the 2 bob Airfix through to todays plastics, resins, white metal etc but however much I enjoy building these there's nothing more satisfying than a miniature racer of one of your favourite cars to allow yourself to indulge in some harmless make believe as you become Jim Clark balancing the car on the throttle through a bend on your slot track! Please forgive me this flight of fancy.
Here's a car I built a couple of years ago using the superb Tamiya Lotus 25 kit and fitting it out with a Scalextric motor and running gear and a nice resin driver figure to represent the great man. Driving this on a 100' 4 lane track with plenty of room to drift it about on it's hard rubber kit tyres is immense fun.
