Posted 05 February 2003 - 01:52
Welcome back to the 3rd annual RC Forum Fantasy Manager competition.
The competion will be run this year in a similar way to last year. The major change being you can only enter a maximum of 2 teams. Note that this is an amateur competition to give your some experience of the fun in managing your own team.
Rules and price lists are here
Visit the webpage to find out what is involved then come back here to post your team(s). Lets see who can take the Champion Manager crown off last year's champion - madmac.
Just a reminder that MrAerodynamicist was the 2001 champion
I forgot to mention in the rules that team names are limited to 30 characters! Including spaces!

So if my driver finishes every lap of the race, he gets 1 point for each lap, thus 58 points for Oz, 55 points for Malaysia, etc?Scoring for RC Forum F1 Managers Competition
For each race lap completed points out of 100 will be awarded to each driver.

Say driver finishes 70 laps at Monoco before retiring. 70 is 90% of 78, so he gets 90% of 100 points which would be of course 90. His chassis and engine would earn 90% of 50 which is 45 points.
If he finishes the races he gets 100 points (plus the bonus for being classified). His chassis and engine get 50.

Thanks for clarifying it for me Pioneer, I have been away from my computer for a few days.
Boy am I glad I restricted it to 2 teams. 37 teams entered already in less than a week.

Team JForce Racing principal JForce has vowed that his 2 team effort will be victorious in 2003.
"After the pain of coming so close last season, I was afraid the team would go into a slump, morale wise" the 24 year old said at a charity auction last night.
"We really did have to sit back and take a long, hard look at ourselves"
After auctioning off a dinner with himself for charity, the enigmatic Kiwi spoke out to reasure his many followers that this year would be his year.
"To quote David Coulthard, this year is my year. I feel that the review we undertook at the end of last years season has identified areas for improvement, areas that we are working hard to strengthen"
He also announced that the team would also be more active in all areas of this years RC's Bets and Games Championships.
"We intend to contest all the series on offer...and I believe that we are in a good position to take them all"
The season has already started well for the team...they took out the first round of the newly created WRC Guess the result, and after the second round lie in second place overall.
"I know there's plenty of other teams out there, all doing their best....but lets be honest...they're all **** compared to us"

In my hypothetical example, Ferrari finish 1st and 2nd at the Australian GP and I have selected Ferrari as my engine and chassis.
Now in respect of scoring for Engine and Chassis, my reading of the rules would result in the following points being scored.
Ferrari's Engine scores 50 + 50 for finishing the race, as well as 10 + 9 points for finishing 1st and 2nd.
Ferrari's Chassis scores 50 + 50 for finishing the race, as well as 10 + 9 points for finishing 1st and 2nd.
Thus making it a grand total of 238 points for someone who had selected Ferrari as both their Engine and Chassis choice.
Have I got that right?

I think this is a great comp and am very grateful to those organising it, and I don't know if there is really any way one avoids situations like this, where those who get in first, sorta have an advantage.
Maybe if there were more selections one could make, but even then?

not much you can do about it i guess, other than just go first in, first served. if 2 people have the same team, the 2nd to post has to pick something different.
either that or just have some kind of 'tie breaker' thing.... dunno what though. maybe just a question like "what will be the total time of all pole positions over the season?" or something....in case of a tie (either coz 2 teams are the same, or just because thats how it worked out), the closest guess wins.

I did think about that when I set up the rules but last year we had 180+ teams and very few double ups surprisingly. One time I went to check on some of the teams with identical scores near the top of the comp and found they had different components! The likelyhood was they would have different scores by the end.
If it looks like there is going to be a tie at the end of the season I will come up with some sort of tiebreaker that will apply to Japan only. I am thinking an "unusual guesses" type question at the moment.

Team JForce Racing have revealed that their 2003 challenger, the JF2003-RFF will be launched on Friday 14 February.
"Because this team is so dearly loved, we thought it appropriate that Valentines day be the launch date"
Experts are picking a radical revolution, rather than evolution, but JForce was cagey about it, telling reporters "calm your juices, you'll see it when I'm bloody-well good and ready"
