Just read this at Eurosport site.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
French terrestrial channel TF1 will broadcast each Grand Prix live, while Eurosport will retransmit each practice, qualifying and warm-up session prior to the Grand Prix, which will incidentally be shown later in the day.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Isn't this great news!! :)

Or have I misunderstood something?

Sounds good. Eurosport's F1-coverage was far the best with John Watson and Ben Edwards. I wonder who they got now...?

It definitely solves my problem with finding a channel who sends friday-saturday practice!! Hope they send it live and not only short summaries in the evening. Good news nevertheless!!

And every round as well, not only European races..excellent!

Lets hope its on all of Eurosport and not just in France. Its strange that the news item is only on the frence section and not the other Eurosport sites. Im pesimistic but I hope its here also :)

EDIT: Eurosport has 3 divisions, UK, France and International, I suspect this is only for France.

Unfortunately I think Viktor is right. :

Why can French Eurosport afford F1, but not English? It is a shame.

It was too good to be true anyway. :D

Ave !!

In all likelihood its not primarily a matter of being able to afford or not, I'd rather think is exclusivity in the broadcast rights. The UK brodacaster has exclusive rights which it is not willing to relinquish.

I guess that explains how they can get away with it in France but not in the UK. In the UK, ITV are the host broadcaster, and as far as I am aware, they don't have any ownership of Eurosport!

Here is the link that confirms this post. It is in French. It is not on Eurosport's site yet.

Courtesy of Babelfish, a very poor translation, but nonetheless:

"TF1 and Eurosport obtained Wednesday the exclusiveness in the rights of diffusion of Formula 1 to the antenna. 'It is a good agreement which will enable us to provide better images than in previous years' the owner of the rights, Bernie Ecclestone, declared.

"TF1 will broadcast the GP live and Eurosport will retransmit the free practice, qualifying rounds and even the warm-up, a few hours before the race. Eurosport will repeat the Grand Prix in the evening. "

" 'Qualifying on Saturday will be broadcast at 14:00 and the remainder of the tests will be on Eurosport (subsidiary company of TF1 on cable and satellite) which will make a broad cover magazine of the weekend of race' confirmed Etienne Mougeotte, vice-president and general manager of TF1"

If somebody will help to translate this better, that would be great.

You boffins who sptted the TF1-Eurosport connection are spot-on! I`ve checked the French website, and the report is there. Then i checked the British Eurosport website and nothing.

It`ll be interesting to see if they will cover the Friday 2 hrs testing session  - i hope so certainly as it won`t need too much work for me to get French eurosport.

Ben Edwards is still in Eurosport.
Let's hope they allocate him to the F1 slot.

Does the report say whether French eurosport will broadcast the early Friday morning 2 hrs testing session? - it would make sense as Renault will be in the line-up....

Thanks for that Viktor...

Hmm.....good and bad. So the first of the big 5 F1 tv companies (RTL, RTL5, P-world, FR Eurosport, ORF) have rolled out their launch schedule. Technically P-world in Germany released theirs a while ago, but because they "were" a bernievision channel then we won`t truly believe that one until it happens!.

French Eurosport have not got the Friday early morning 2 hrs testing session  Damn, i was really hoping on them for that one, esp. with Renault in the line-up.

Friday morning 1 hr session for all teams, Friday 1 hr qual both live

Sat morning (2 x 45mins) live and in the 30 mins gap they`ll show h-lights of Fri qual session

Now, here`s the other bone of contention..... I`ve just heard this afternoon that there will definitely be a 15 mins "extra" session about 30 mins before the scheduled start of the Saturday qualifying session.......that is also missing from the Fr. Eurosport line-up, but that`s hardly surprising as that session has`nt even (to my knowledge) been officially announced yet! Probably they`ll show it.

Sat qual......is`nt so important as many other channels will show that anyway.

Sun warm-up 15 mins session to be shown live on Fr. Eurosport, again

Race to be covered by everyone, so no problem there.
