I've searched the forum but couldn't find a thread on this before. If I've missed it, my apologies and just point me in the right direction.

Problem is as follows:
I can't install either GP3, GP3-2000 pr GP4 on my computer anymore since I changed to XP. I get this message when I insert the CD-ROM and start installation:

GP3:

ERROR NUMBER
0x80040707
Failed to load DLL GP_Inst.dll

GP4:

ERROR NUMBER
0x80040707
Failed to load DLL

Any one with suggestions what to do to make it work other than skipping the plans to play the game?;)

yes but thanks anyway. I threw out a question there too and it seems it is a XP and computer problem, more than a GP4 problem ... damn I hate that because it's out of my league to fix. Tried to install a few other games as well, and it didn't work there either so I have a problem and a tip for a solution I can't really manage .... gotta love Windows

How did you install XP, was it a fresh install or an upgrade. I am running Windows XP Pro, and have installed all those games without a problem.

My first thoughts was Direct X, but that is only a guess. Also try the Microsoft knowledge base if its happening with other programs aswell.

Thanks for the tips.

Unfortunately Win XP crashed shortly afterwards and it also seems the harddrive was about to give up. So I had to get a new harddrive and install a new version of XP, so I will give it a nother try to install GP4. Hopefully there won't be any problems this time.

But after reading a bit about the game and looking at different patches for GP4, it strikes me that it seems to have a huge number of stupid bugs from the start. I get the feeling this game was rushed to be out on the market sooner than it should have.

No doubt about that!

The patch does fix some of the more serious issues however and with the add ons now available (GPx Patch etc.) the game is now finally becoming what it should have been in the first place.

Do you mean the add-ons you can download from the net? Various types of editors, car sets, patches etc.?

The editors in production but are not far away from completion.

They can now edit carshapes & sounds etc. Most of the 2003 cars are now available but not as a full set (I'll wait for that I think).

Most of the downloads are available at http://www.grandprixgames.org/. The official patch & GPx Patch are a must!

Thanx for the tip

When I played GP2 and GP3 I always liked Steven Youngs (I think that was the name) editor that allowed you to edit a lot of functions in the game, such as horsepower, reliability, speed of the drivers, points system, driving aids avaible at different levels and so on. Haven't found something similar for GP4 or GP3-2000 though.

I've also installed all those games on XP Pro with no problems - make sure you close all the programs (apart from essential ones) running in the background from 'Startup' and 'msconfig'.

Good luck!
