Yes, there is point in this. Since skating is all about technical figures and F1 is slowly turning out to be the same. What I am trying to say is that the last couple of years cars are more important than drivers and tactics are more important than speed. So, Formula One is both like a board game and skating...in some way

What do you think? Which is the closest. And yes, this is a serious question.

Oops! When you said F1 was like figure skating, I thought you meant the predetermined winners, cheating and manipulation, not the technical side. :

The measure of cars, drivers, and tactics is how fast they can complete a race distance. Distance over time is speed. Your question is less serious than you think.

Well, I could have added that, but I didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings. But yes, 2002 season reminds me of the pairs scandal at the Olympics...

Know what? You're smart....:)

Interesting since my daughter was a competitive figure skater I happened to follow the sport along with Formula One. What exactly in 2002 had any relationship to the Olympic Pairs Figure Skating controversy. Are you insinuating that perhaps there was some illegal things going on last year. It would be interesting to know who you thought should have been WDC and WCC since you evidently feel the Ferrari victory was cheating. I'd like to know specifically what you found similar.

BTW the answwer to your ? is no there is no similarity. Figure Skating is a sport in which competitors do routines and are then judged. Huyman beings vote for who they think was the best. It is a subjective victory In F1 the winner is he who completes 300km plus the remainder of the lap in the shortest amount of time. There is no judgement that some driver who actually crossed the line third should be declared the winner because he in fact drove a better race, it is totally Objective.

I have one reason to think that, but it has absolutely nothing to do with Ferrari, so if you want, I can tell you in private.

Others may ignore this :D

That is very far from the truth. Which is why Timothy Goebel is not World & Olympic Champion although he has the most technically difficult program.
The only level in which you can compare F1 and figure skating is the allegations of cheating ;) (and notice I say *allegations* )

Anna - both F1 and FS fan :)

Absolutely true Anna,

Figure skating hasn't been technical since.........they took figures out of coompetition.

Now its a jumping contest. Great classic skaters can't even compete against underdevloped preteens that can rotate like a top.

Actually. I meant that artistry still plays a role (thus the second mark). If it was only about jumps, then Timothy, who has the most quadriples than anyone else, would have gotten the nod. Luckily the last Olympic Champion was more than a jumping bean :) However with the new judging system artistry is slowly fading away and the future of figure skating seems much worse than that of F1... :( But yeah, figures should still be in. Maybe then we wouldn't see as much crossovers-jumps-crossovers-jumps programs.
Sorry for the terribly OT post...
