I was reading an article by Eoin Young:
http://www.pitpass.c...esid=526&page=1
and he says this in the third paragraph:

Now we move half a world away in the same lower hemisphere to Adelaide, the city I always regard as the true and rightful home of the Grand Prix, a city that was in love with the formula 1 circus. Half of the people in Melbourne don't know the race is on and the other half knows it's on but doesn't give a toss. The Buck doesn't go to Melbourne but he loved the race in Adelaide.

I was just wondering which circuit you would prefer to see stage the Australian GP in terms of circuit design, atmosphere etc especially those who have been to both

I voted for Melbourne. In my opinion it's more safer than Adelaide.

I remember pretty good when Mika Häkkinen was injured at there - despite the cars weren't so safe than nowadays. :|

Adelaide - with out a doubt!

Having been to both, I have to say that vibe in Adelaide throughout race week was far better than Melbourne. I would have thought that the fast straights in Adelaide would give better overtaking opportunities for todays cars.

I'd pick Adelaide.
No question.

A real street circuit wich also had a great straight to allow overtakings.

Check out the article by Ann Bradshaw, very nice memories of Adelaide  http://www.atlasf1.c...s/bradshaw.html

I think Adelaide was better, that was a proper street circuit.

Adelaide - scene of 2 excellent drives from Rosberg in 1985/86, a fantastic 1986 race in general that gave Prost the WDC, Piquet's 1990 win, Senna's last win in 1993, Mansell's last win in 1994 etc.

OK, 1995 was boring (Hill won by 2 laps IIRC!) and the 1989/91 races were a nightmare, but on the whole excellent racing. But them Melbourne has had some good races too - 1996, 1997, 1999, 2002 and 2003 standing out.

I will go with Adelaide though - but its a close call!

Agreed. There's not much wrong with the Melbourne circuit, but I miss Adelaide.

ive actually been to races in adelaide(and one of those times was in 91, but i wont hold that against the place)...more than i can say for melbourne....

BUT, having said that, from a tv point of view, or even just a 'whats more interesting circuit wise' view, i like melbourne....

mind you, there was something about having the last race of the year.

we could of done worse that having the first race though.... sometimes i imagine (wouldnt know personally) that some gp's in the middle of the year must get 'lost' a bit regarding buildup etc.

adelaide and melbourne have had a buzz about them..either coz its the last or the first race.

Why not have both, with Melbourne as the season opener and Adelaide as the season ender? They could have Adelaide replacing Spa, A1 Ring or Imola.

Anyhow, I loved the race at Adelaide, it's the best street circuit ever, IMO.

I preferred Adelaide - I have never really warmed to Albert Park.

Mind you, I am not sure that anywhere where they serve "Pie Floaters" should be allowed to have a GP.....;)

As a resident of the former GP city, I wish Adelaide still had the race just to make this place interesting again. I loved the build up to the race, walking down Rundle Mall and seeing the walkovers and track fences going up down Rundle Road in the distance, the atmosphere was electric. I think the fact that Adelaide is a smaller city also made the GP a larger event, we had street parties when it was on, something I haven't noticed in Melbourne.

Having said that, the event in Melbourne is great too, I like the Albert Park track and, as ever, it is just as well organised as it was when it first came to Australia in 1985.

Personally though, I pick Adelaide, I think it was a great and challenging track, from the 90 degree turns around East Terrace to the long bumpy straight of Dequiteville Tce (Brabham Straight).

In the end I'm just glad Australia has a race.

Adelaide for sure. Last race was better also.

Melbourne is a much bigger city and the GP gets a bit lost, in Adelaide it took over. I really loved going to Adelaide, Melboune is a bit of a chore.

Ive got nothing against Adelaide but I live in Melbourne so Id say Melbourne! :drunk:

I agree that Melb is a bigger city so you dont feel that it has been taken over by F1 like Adelaide - but F1 needs greater international exposure these days and Melbourne provides that.

Also alot of people are using nostalgia to make their choice - ie the good ol days with racers like Prost, Mansell and Senna. There is nothing wrong with that offcourse.

Personally Id prefer the first race - with all the build up and anticipation. The Last race is basically a gamble and becomes insignificant if the championship doesnt go down to the wire.

I do however wish i saw an Adelaide GP live.

Why not? (Oh yeah I forgot: Bernie  he has to further globalise the appeal of the most popular sport in the world)

Put the Albert Park Circuit in Adelaide, and then I'd vote for a return. Otherwise, Melbourne. For me it's the track that makes the diffference.

I always thought that C^ART should have taken Adelaide, and do a double header with Surfers. It makes sense, to get a better return for their travelling bucks.

Adelaide as long as it's the full version not the sprint circuit or whatever they run now.

I went to the Adelaide race 6 times when I lived there and I've been to Silverstone 3 times and Adelaide was way better (guess that isn't hard though). Personally I think Malaysia should be dumped and F1 start with a Melbourne, Adelaide double header.

i don't wanna hate on adelaide or sound elitist but in terms of atmosphere melbourne is far and away the best city in australia. the nightlife, the variety and standard of bars/clubs/restaurants/cafes is this town is simply phenomenal. adelaide doesn't really have that.

i do agree that melbourne because of its size would not be seen as being entirely consumed by the grand prix - but that said there are a helluva lot of passionate fans here and there are lots of displays in the city during race week - the main street of the city is completely closed on at least one occasion. in the inner city, which i assume is what people are talking about as opposed to the outer suburbs 50km away, you fall over tourists and team members and people swathed in merchandise. the atmosphere definitely gives me a huge buzz.

circuit-wise - i'm curious as to why people don't like the albert park circuit?

Adelaide was better, for sure... because it's small enough to let the GP overpower it.

Something like Tasmania when Longford was on... but glitzier.

But don't expect me to turn up again till it's at Bathurst... or back at Lobethal...

If the GP was held at Melbourne between 85 and 95 - everyone would be saying how it was better in Melbourne. Its all perception and fond memories.

Agreed, but we must also consider some fans are just objectively expressing what track is better for f1, and overtaking and all that. Perception and fond memories, the mere icing on a big Adelaide this was a great track cake. :smoking:

I agree with all of that.

I have been to the last GP at Adelaide and every Melb GP between 1996 to 2001. I always felt that to keep the GP it has to be moved to a big city.
