
Julio Iglesias, the famous racing driver

I have just gone through a book of mine which has results from each race from 1950-1997, and came across a driver by the name of Julio Eglesias, who raced in the Argentinian GP in 1955.
Is this the same Julio as the world-renkown singer?

Unlikely, since the singer's called Iglesias, would not have been old enough to drive then, and in any case his sport was football (sometime reserve goalie for Real Madrid, IIRC).

BTW, I am sorry, I made a spelling error, the driver's name was Iglesias as well.(He was born in 1922).

He gained fame of a different sort a few years later when he got in the way of one of the leading contenders in the non-championship Buenos Aires GP - Moss in 1960, IIRC

David Holland said something recently that his name was actually neither Jesus Ricardo or Julio but Jose, IIRC.
and does anyone other historian think a birthdate of 2/2/22 is a bit suspicious?

He was Argentine Champion in the Fuerza Libre class in 1952, 1956, 1958 and 1959. His first title win was particularly noteworthy, as his mount that year was an underpowered car with which he had won the 1951 national Fuerza Limitada title.
Started 1947 in Fomenta Limitada.
First successes came two years later, racing his Plymouth special against the likes of J F González, Onofre Marimón, Benedicto Campos and Alberto Crespo. His wins included:

Separate races for Fomenta Limitada, originally for cars using Ford Model T parts, were held in the 1930s, and a national championship instituted in 1940. The senior MN class, Fuerza Libre, did not get its own championship until 1949. This became Formula 1 in 1962.
A separate Model T championship was in place by 1954, and ran until at least 1960, and a small-car category called “Minijunior” was introduced a little later, with a championship from 1965; this became Formula 4 in 1968.
The first Formula 2 championship was run in 1969, with Formula Renault and Formula 3 appearing later

Separate races for Fomenta Limitada, originally for cars using Ford Model T parts, were held in the 1930s, and a national championship instituted in 1940. The senior MN class, Fuerza Libre, did not get its own championship until 1949. This became Formula 1 in 1962.
A separate Model T championship was in place by 1954, and ran until at least 1960, and a small-car category called “Minijunior” was introduced a little later, with a championship from 1965; this became Formula 4 in 1968.
The first Formula 2 championship was run in 1969, with Formula Renault and Formula 3 appearing later

Yeah, that appealed to me too...
T-models I've only ever seen on vintage car days and at Historic race meetings... even wrecks in paddocks are a very rare thing, and have been for all of my life. People must lead much more sensible lives in South America...
The F-Libre listings look exciting too... any information, for instance, about the Plymouth Iglesias drove?

Can't help much with any technical matters
I do believe however that for some time at least the 'limitada' class was restricted to cars with four-cylinder engines
