as a 10 due to the revised race result. Since nobody voted after the race results were revised, a re-vote for Results Satisfaction wouldn't be entirely out of place...

Dear Voters,
Due to the changed points system, with eight drivers scoring points each race, and the somewhat low level of voting participation recently, I've decided to try a new voting system (replacing the old system with one TOP vote and two RU votes) for at least a few races. This is to make it more likely that eight drivers will receive votes (and more than just single random ones) each race. As an added bonus, the system will allow You, the voters, to vote in a more flexible way than before.

This is how it works:

* You can give a driver either three, two or one point. (Or zero...)
* You can distribute no more than eight points (but less if you want to).
* You need to vote for at least two drivers.

Well, that was it, pretty much. The different ways you can distribute the full eight points are:

3-3-2
3-3-1-1
3-2-2-1
3-2-1-1-1
3-1-1-1-1-1
2-2-2-2
2-2-2-1-1
2-2-1-1-1-1
2-1-1-1-1-1-1
1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1

Add to that a bunch of ways to distribute 2-7 points... Flexibility!

Vote inerpretation:
*A voting post is assumed to have the drivers receiving the MOST vote points FIRST, and then in descending order (unless otherwise is clearly stated). A vote posted as follows:
1. Damon Hill
2. Gerhard Berger
3. Jean Alesi

will be interpreted as Hill getting three points, Berger two and Alesi one.
*Votes cast according to the old system (TOP-RU-RU) will be interpreted as a 3-2-2 vote. In case the RU's are ordered, like RU1-RU2, the vote will be treated as a 3-2-1 vote.
(So voting according to the old system is compatible with the new one, although with a slightly different interpretation).
*Votes where more than eight points have been distributed are most likely to be ignored, I'm afraid.

The rest of the voting procedure remains pretty much as usual. The amount of 3-point votes will be first tie breaker, then 2-point votes, then reversed race result order.

I hope this will turn out to be a popular and well-working system. Feedback and questions are welcome!

With some of the races this year, it has been so bloody tough having to limit your choices to 3 drivers that impressed.

Very good, very good. :)

So does this start from Imola, or do you want us to recast our votes for the previous races?

Heh Nik, I'll try it for the next three races to see if it's good, and if people like it generally. Of course, there is the (hopefully minimal) risk that it's a complete disaster, in which case I might go back to the old system sooner than soon...

The only recast of votes that would be interesting imo would be the Satisfaction rating for Brazil.

BTW - how come JPM gets 2 points and MS gets one point for Brazil but HHF gets 0 - when they all received the same number of votes?? :confused:

gerry: as I wrote below the results list, the reversed race result is used as a tie-breaker. The "reversed" bit because a good finishing position is such a strong help to get votes anyway.

Isnt finishing the race more important that playing in the gravel with Jos??? I think it should be the other way around.

I rated satisfaction at 1 because Ferrari did badly and more importantly fisi didn't get the win I thought was his. Needless to say my opinion has changed. The whole race however remains a farce, more so perhaps.

Moanaman: the typical tie to break in these cases has usually been between
*some midfielder-backmarker who did a decent enough job, just to retire (typically for mechanical reasons) halfway through the race and thus not getting much exposure overall, and
*some driver in a top team having a very mediocre race, and getting some random vote just for finishing fifth or whatever.

The tie that was to be broken for this GP was far from typical; in the long run I'd say that it will favour Frentzen more than Schu or Monty. And drivers crashing out usually don't get many votes, so I think and hope they'll be worse off due to the new voting system.
