Now that I've got your attention...Going through a 40-year old newspaper a few weeks ago, I came across an article on Linda Vaughn. I admit to being curious as to her measurements, age and place of birth, in that order, and discovered that they are, in order, 40-24-37, 61 and Dalton, Georgia. I think the earliest photo I've ever seen of the lovely Linda was one with Richard Petty. She's wearing what was termed, a beehive, I believe, hairdo, but she definitely got better looking with age. I guess she lost some baby fat. I took a photo of her at Las Vegas '82 and she was smokin'. Sometime racer Bruce Jenner was standing next to her and partly obscured her. It's still a pretty good photo but I know someone out there has a better one and, maybe, some more memories of the smokin' Linda Vaughn.

I've both ogled and admired Linda Vaughn since I first saw her picture in a Hot Rod magazine. She was regally posing with one hand on a huge Hurst shifter. I met her for the first time year before last and apart from her still stunning appearance, Ms. Vaughn has the quintessential "Miss Congeniality" demeanor. She is one of the most genuine, sincere, and friendly celebrities I've ever met.

Truly, a SWEETHEART . I love her as do thousands who know her and have met her over the years.

Time has been very kind to her. Where's the clutch peddle?

The Hurst ads where she sides up to a giant shifter are the best of the blatantly-phallic era of advertising  .

And she makes an appearance in my favorite car movie, The Gumball Rally.

She is the Public Relations Coordinator in the book "Grand National Stock Car Racing / The other side of the fence", and her family name seems to be Vaughan, not Vaughn... though, anyway, she is known as Miss Hurst.

Girls who looked like Linda were a big consideration in my decision to settle in Georgia! IIRC, I first saw her nearly forty years ago at the Southern 500 in Darlington. There's a funny story about AJ Foyt and Linda getting stopped for speeding -- don't know if it's apocryphal or not, but I'll let someone else tell it.

A plaque on my office wall: "I wasn't born in the South, but I got here as fast as I could."

40-odd years removed from my Yankee roots, I have no regrets whatsoever.

Before Linda was Miss Hurst Golden shifter she was Miss Firebird. She rode on a red Pure Oil bird in the pre-race parades. There was also a Miss Hurst at the same time. When Linda left Pure oil she was replaced by "Winky" Louise.
I'm not sure when Linda first appeared on the NASCAR scene. I first met her at the Grand Natgional race at the Augusta road course in November 1963.
(I hadn't thought about that track in years. The NASCAR race in November, 1963 was the first race there I believe. Later there was a USRRC race or equivalent that I seem to recall was won by Dave McDonald. After that I have no idea.)
It is the only road course in the South East that I can recall hosting a Grand National or Winston Cup race.
