Correction on points system for UK series

9-6-4-3-2-1 was 1970-1972
1969 was
500 1st
350
250
200
150
125
100
90
80
75
70
65
60
55
50
45 16th !
There were probably points available below this, but 16 was the largest number
of race finishers.

Oh and in 1973 and '74 the last race in the British series carried double points
[40-30-24 etc.] This might have been true for '75 too but I haven't got that far yet
and by the last race of British F5000 no-one much cared I guess.

(and if there was an R in the month then drivers with double barrelled names
could multiply their points score by a co-efficient of 2.3145)

Meantime, here's UK 1973 [including the double points at last race]

Teddy Pilette 136
Tony Dean 133
Keith Holland 116
Steve Thompson 114
Guy Edwards 98
Tom Belsø 97
Brett Lunger 95
Peter Gethin 65

Here's UK championship results for 69, 70. 71 and 72.
There's a bit of an issue with 1974, depending on whether you count
the result of the Mugello race which was stopped after 13 laps, so
I'm trying to find out how that was treated at the time.

Did Arie Luyendyk really drove in F5000, I thought at that time of his career he was still in FFord.
Does anybody have infos about the European/British championships in 1974-76?

Yes, Luyendijk really did have a one off drive in Sheridan Thynne's McLaren M18
He was very young, either still in FF1600 or just starting in FSV, but was
considered a real prospect, and it didn't take a lot of experience [or ability]
to get on a F5000 grid so he had as good a claim as any. And he did okay, finished
10th, three laps down on the winner [Edwards] in a wet and confused race.
Also, Dutch drivers in the mid 70s tended to get accelerated treatment if they
showed the slightest ability. Consider Michael Bleekemolen, thrown straight out
of FF2000 into an F1 March in 1977, or Roelof Wunderink who went from FF1600
to F1 very quicky, via a season in F5000, because of a supportive sponsor.

Regarding 1974-76: What do you want to know?
I'm in the process of preparing all the British F5000 and G8 results for oldracingcars.com.
We've posted everything up to 1972 and 1973 is almost complete but blocked by a total
lack of detail on the Jyllandsringen race in Denmark.
You'll see from the site that we go into a considerable level of detail, and for '73 and '74 will
even have lap charts for some races.
1974 I have results and am just laying in qualifying times and trying to find
retirement reasons etc.
1976 is ready to roll.
1975 is the one season where I have to do a lot of work, as all my original results
are on a corrupted ZIP disc.

The Mugello race was run in two heats. The first was called off after 7 laps because of heavy rain. After waiting for some hours for the rain to stop it was decided (at 8 pm) that rather than try to complete the first heat they would just run the second heat. Soon after that race started the rain began again and the race was stopped after 4 laps. The results were decided on aggregate results of the two shortened heats and according to Autocourse full points were awarded.

Thank you, that's really helpful. Would anyone out there have a programme
for the Mugello race, so I can tidy up on who entered and who didn't?

Also, I was not wholly right about Luyendijk's 1973 outing being a one-off.
He had a second race in the car, at the final round at Brands Hatch and
finished 14th, four laps down on Edwards, who won again. This might not seem
that good but he probably had never been to Brands, and the field at that race
was as competitive as it got that year. [John Watson was 3rd in a Trojan and
Regazzoni 12th in a Lola T330, though not trying too hard I guess]. And the
McLaren M18 was not that good when it was new, by this time it was two
years old, and even Tony Trimmer, who drove it most often, on circuits he
knew well, couldn't wring better than 7th out of it.

Thanks Chris for the infos so far!

I´m looking for the final championship standings of these three seasons. For the results of races I can wait till they are published on oldracingcars.com.
Cause the final championship standings are the only thing I miss on that side. Apart from that it´s really great! Lot´s of vital information!!!
