Now we just need "Grand Prix" to complete the "Must See Duo!"

I shuddered when I saw again the drivers of the period (1970) driving the 917's and 512's in the wet.
Good film.
I also can't wait for Grand Prix to be released on DVD.

Unfortunately, there are no extras on the DVD. A good companion to the movie however is the book by Michael Keyser with the rather lurid title "A French Kiss With Death". The book involves the background to the making of the film.

To my knowledge, there is no planned release of Grand Prix on DVD. There are several threads on Atlas that discusses the topic.

Now, all we have to do is get them to release "Death Race 2000" on DVD.
Hmmm. Le Mans and Grand Prix on DVD. Might be time to buy the surround-sound bits.

Noticed it was actually in stores at Future Shop. Got a copy for 17 bucks Canadian. The images are crisp and the sound is excellent. No special features though. Too bad they didn't have the making of like Speedvision put on when they introduced the movie on its 'Lost Drive in' feature.
Still worth every penny.

During the filming of the movie, David Piper was involved in an accident that cost him a leg. I was wondering if the accident was left in the film or not.

The only reference I have on the making of the film is the book by Keyser.
My review of the book does not answer your question. It does reveal that Piper was driving the #21 Gulf 917 and the accident occured just before Maison Blanche. The Porsche vaulted the guardrail, tearing itself to pieces in the process. After a lengthy extrication process, Piper was taken by Solar Productions plane to England (National Orthopedic Hospital) however the triple compound fractures to his right leg wouldn't properly knit together and eventually had to be amputated below the knee.
The cause remains unknown, but driver error was ruled out.
