I recommend it. 100%.
Not started the missions yet but I get the feeling I am going to have alot more fun with this version rather than the PS2 version.

Look forward to get some mods for game.
Players made awesome real cars to GTA 3 so there will be soon VC versions as well.

Is Vice City really that good pRy? I don't mean to call your initial judgement into question but is it that different to GTA3 that warrants buying it just out of curiosity or should I do as I've stated above and wait for a while? The fact that I've purchased both Serious Sam and Serious Sam 2 shouldn't dissuade me from getting what I consider to be a 'copycat' game such as Vice City right?

For PS2 sequel of Grand Theft Auto III was far more better than III.
I'm sure same will happen to pc-version as well.
ps. you can't compare Serious Sam to this game!

Take a look at the cast list :
http://us.imdb.com/Title?0314123
The cut scenes are alot better in Vice City. There is actually stories and interaction rather than just "Oh, go kill this guy" "Oh, go do that" .. yeah you get sent on missions but it's more than that. There is a story too. Also you get to actually buy buildings now, so you can own your own strip joint and make money from it. It's very very very good. Hear me? Very very good.
They made it alot deeper than GTA3 and that paid off. The graphics are improved too. An example being last night I noticed you can now see inside the ambulances. Also I drove my moped onto the beach and chased around some people sunbathing. They get up off their towels as you head towards them. At night they are replaced with casual walkers. The baywatch babes are very nice to look at as are the roller skater girls and just general girls in small bikinis.;)
I think Vice City is just one of those titles that PS2 / PC owners just have to own.
Apparently the Golf Kart Hit mission is the best so far... simular to Jackass I was told

This is not an addon.
Here is an example ...
"(spend $600 on the first stripper). The stripper twin actually dances like a real stripper instead of the weird dancing the regular strippers in the game do. Anyway, the other twin is definitely a bartender at the Malibu. If you try to shoot her or if you try to sneak upstairs she pulls a shotgun on you and starts shooting. "

I never compared GTA3 to Serious Sam! What I meant: is GTA-Vice City similar to GTA3 as Serious Sam: SE was to the original Serious Sam? If so I won't be buying VC for a good long time, if ever.
I don't own a PS2 nor have I ever played GTA3 on a rental machine, I bought GTA3 sight-unseen for the PC and played it non-stop for 2 months. Since that infatuation with the game ended I've played it here and there, mostly going on vigilante missions or just going crazy in the street and shooting innocent civilians with anything handy.

Vice City currently holds the title of the best ever computer game.
that is a bold statement pRy, a very bold statement indeed.

It's fun, I enjoyed it, but it's riddled with bugs (the PS2 version) and gets pretty tired after a while if you ask me.

GTA3 had a tendancy to slow down in the center of the city even if you have a very fast machine, does vice city do this?

AMD Athlon 2200 XP
1GB RAM
256 GEFORCE 4
Nothing special - but it is fast and furious, in fact I'd go as far as saying it rocks!
Have just purchased and haven't really managed to play much on it, but it is
very good - very fast - and very in depth!
Hope this helps.
Steve.

you can drive up to a hooker, stop the car,and she will get in,go park the car somewhere quiet and the car will start rocking, your money will decrease, your health will increase.

so many nice touches, when you fly you can actually see seaguls alongside you,and shoot them!

Laughed my ass off after running my 600cc motorcycle into a seaside barrier and getting thrown into the ocean. Also curious is the police presence. About 1 in 10 pedestrians are foot cops, so it's now pretty difficult to your hose down crowd with your Uzi, take their cash, and get away without an army on your ass.

The hooker health boost still works on the PC, too. The trick you're missing is to get out of the car, shoot the hooker, and take your money back.

You can still do drive by shootings if you've bought the uzi, but when you're on a bike, you can shoot straight ahead as well.

The fun thing with the 600cc bike is earning money with wheelies and stoppies. With the 9 and 6 keys on the numpad you can shift your weight on the bike. To make a stoppie you need to **** your weight forward and then brake and engage the handbrake.

Thanks, I was trying to figure out how to get a wheelie going. I thought you had to brush a curb with your front wheel or something and kept running into buildings.

I loved GTA3 for the PC but in the last few weeks before Vice City's release my enthusiasm for the game has waned to the point that I will happily wait until it's $40 or in the bargain bin before buying it.
I picked it up for $39.99 from CompUSA

It seems to have a good story line, and some missions **** you to tears like that helicopter one where you have to plant the bombs in the building - I hated that so much.

If you get the "Ultimate Trainer ," available at some Vice City fan sites, you can spawn a tank. However, the Rhino tank is not nearly as impressive as the missile-shooting, gattling gun spraying "Hunter" Apache attack helicopter. The thing is damn hard to control though.
For effect, I put Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries" in my mp3 folder, spawned my Apache, and went "Apocolypse Now" on the peaceful citizens of Vic City. Great fun.

BTW: are there any "collect the cars" sub-missions or the like?

o get the tank, you just have to type "panzer" while in game and there it is ! I read that your savegames could get corrupt after using cheats so I'm a bit careful with those.

all missions completed(maybe 30 or so?i lost count!)
100 hidden packages
36 unique jumps
40 rampages
all taxi,firetruck,ambulance,vigilanty missions
about 30 or so side or hidden missions.
about 10 checkpoint races
thats just from memory,im at 99% on PS version, just need to do taxi missions which take hours!
just today i decided to restart the game from 0,just for fun, have hardly put it down since

Yeah, there's a collect the cars mission. After that one you'll have access to a showroom where you can store cars. Or so I read.
IIRC,you must buy the car garage first, then its kinda like a gone in sixty seconds style, car list appear.

If you don't feel like doing a mission you can go sightseeing, do some insane stunts, kill people for money etc.
I love that even in the missions there are so many ways to accomplish them.
The golfcart one for example....first time I did it I had to chase the guy all the way off the course and onto the streets and eventually ran him into a building with that Comet (porsche 911 lookalike)and used the flamethrower on his car then on him. Second time I managed to time it just right and just rammed his golfcart with mine and he went into the water and drowned

Third time I did it I got smart. I just jumped in the golfcart, drove it right under the platform he was teeing off from and parked it there. Then I backed up 50 feet and shot holes in it til it exploded and took him and most of his bodyguards with it.

Love that we can put our own MP3's on the PC version too. Love songs like ACDC's 'If you want blood' or 'Highway to Hell'. Hoobastank's 'Why are you running away ?' 'Wanted dead or alive' fitting songs that make you want to drive faster and go crazy

I imagine it must be much harder to aim accurately on the PS2 ? Mouse rules for sucj things.
It seems there is less land mass in VC tho. No big hills and cliffs that GTA3 had and were so much fun to fly off in a car or coax the police to fly off. Theres just the 2 big islands with the small mansion one in the middle ? That sucks.
Seems the secret packages are harder to find or maybe just harder to see too. I just aquired the mansion and only have 6 packages.
