Who is Gaston Parent you might ask ?

He's the man who took over GV's career in 1976. He became his loyal manager and confidant until the Gilles' untimely death at Zolder in 1982.

He passed away at his Montreal home this past Monday.

**** news. My condolences to his family.

Gaston was Gilles Villeneuve's manager. He found funding for him in a public scheme that was a precursor to Invest In Wilson when Villeneuve had no money left to compete in Formula Atlantic.

He got Enzo Ferrari to agree to Villeneuve wearing his own overalls with his personal sponsors.

He also was responsible in founding the Canadian Grand Prix.

What a man. He will be sorely missed...

Here's the source

The above source has a historical error, claiming that Ron Dennis was running McLaren back in 76, but this is not the time to split hairs

Thanks for that information. If anyone can please merge this thread with the original or delete this duplicate thread that would be great.

I just posted this in a duplicate thread, did not know that this one had been set earlier.

It's bad news. I'm a fan of Gilles, and remember Gaston Parent from the Formula Villeneuve video and of course the Gerald Donaldson biography on Gilles. He struck me as entertaining, honest and direct as well as a good manager.

It is sad news about Gastons passing but one must remember of course that there was a Canadian GP long before Montreal.
