Monaco. Rainiero. Harbour. Yachts. Topless. Bira (err... no... pardon). No overtaking. No Jim Clark. Bottleneck. Rich people.

Montecarlo, hate it or love it, it is a obligate part of F1. This is a bizarre event, at least from middle 80s to nowadays. There are not overtakes except in extreme circunstances, you win or lose position(s) just in pit stop or by mechanical problem or gross driver error. Usually I love qualifying session but I don't like that thing they call "race". I liked it in 70s, though, when Montecarlo was still a real race and Rindt, Stewart, etc, reigned there.

Currently top cars are pretty reliable, thus I suppose saturday qualifying session are going to be extremely fought, because starting order is very decisive here, and pit stop strategy are less important.

Everybody expect something great from Renault boys. And every year this circuit offers the opportunity to drivers to shine even with inferior machinery. Please, stay tuned on Saturday :)

Rules:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It consists in guessing the three firsts in F1 races. You do an ordered guess (i.e. MS-JPM-RS) and a score is given according to real podium results. The scoring system is as explained here:

Suppose you do the guess MS-JPM-RS.

If MS is 1st, 3 points
if MS is 2nd, 2 points
if MS is 3rd, 1 point

If JPM is 1st, 2 points
if JPM is 2nd, 2 points
if JPM is 3rd, 1 point

If RS is 1st, 2nd or 3rd, 1 point

It another driver makes a podium position, it doesn't give any points.

The key for this system is not "gambling" on the exact position but to do a realistic shot at the relative merit of each driver in that GP. For instance, you are not penalized for JPM being first and not 2nd, as the penalty comes by not scoring with MS's first position.

In order to have a reference I will enter two "dummy" players: Bernie and Max (the names were chosen randomly ). Bernie always guesses the firsts three qualifyers, and Max always guesses the firsts three classified in WDC current points table. Can you outscore B&M?

Any guess can be done before one hour before the official first start of the race. We will use the "official" Atlas Forum clock to resolve close entries.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Good luck everybody, and watch over your wallet, or how do you think those rich people in Montecarlo has got their money?

Just for the record, the Prince's correct name is Rainier III.

Pascal: In Spain Prince Rainier is commonly known as Príncipe Rainiero. I am so used to this that I inadvertently wrote the spanish form :)

Some people is being really brave in their guesses! If god of races (*) doesn't favour Ferrari this round can throw big surprises in the ranking :drunk:

(*) I don't mean Bernie

KR - RS - JPM

MAX: KR - MS - RB
BERNIE: RS - KR - JPM

I go (almost) with BERNIE this time. I have done a little "research" about the last races in Monaco and the driver who leads the first lap win except if he retires from race, then the second would win, except if he too retires, and so on. Never (from 95) a driver won Monaco without retirement of the leader.

According to recent races here, it is extremely difficult to win for somebody out of the first two rows. To it happening, there must be a lot of retirements (Panis year syndrome ;) ) , and it happens rarely.

Then... I can't bid for MS (maybe for a podium), and have to go with grid order

I have edited this post minutes after I put it because I've noted than second grid position seems to have a best first lap advantage (maybe track is grippier there), so I swapped RS and KR. (Remember you can put your guess until one hour before the race)

The funny side of this is when on Sunday race results puts me a red face! Maybe this is my last day in top positions in this gane :cat:

Alea jacta est (or something like that ;) )
