IMPORTANT! (Please read to keep this from getting messy!)

Just like the previous 3 years, my annual article on the happenings in and around Montréal on GP weekend will be, once again, here in the Readers Comments Forum in order to make it fully interactive! By interactive, we mean that once you have read the article, should you have any questions to ask or things to add, you will be able to do so in order to benefit everyone. However there are a couple simple rules I ask you to follow:

1.) Should you have a question to ask pertaining to something outlined in the article, please feel free to post it here and I will do my best to answer it for you.
2.) Should you know of an event, which I have omitted from this listing, PLEASE DO NOT POST IT HERE. Send me a PM with all the info you have on the event so that I may verify it and then add it to my original listing. This will keep the event listing all in one post rather than scattered throughout the thread.

Thank you & enjoy!;)
************************************************************

HERE WE GO AGAIN! THE FORMULA 1 CIRCUS IS COMING TO TOWN FOR IT'S FIRST NORTH AMERICAN STOP OF THE 2003 SEASON! MONTRÉAL, THE CITY OF FESTIVALS, IS ABOUT TO HOST THE 'KICK-OFF TO SUMMER' FESTIVAL, BETTER KNOWN AS THE CANADIAN GRAND PRIX, AND WHAT A PARTY IT WILL BE!

With Grand Prix Week all set to begin here in Montréal, the fun is lined up just waiting for you to arrive! Again this year, the main event away from the track will be the Crescent Street Festival! With everything from Pit-Stop competitions on the street, to live concerts, static racing displays and people galore, Crescent Street is where it's happening! Not to worry, the neighboring streets are not to be left out with such events as the Ferrari Parade and many other attractions.

In the heart of the action on Crescent Street, will be the

~4th Annual ATLAS F1 Canadian Grand Prix Headquarters.~

For the 2nd year in a row, we have been welcomed back to:

The Hard Rock Café

Posted Image

WHAT IS THE ATLAS F1 HEADQUARTERS? Simply put, it is a place for Atlas F1 Readers, and actually all F1 enthusiasts, to meet, have a cold drink, maybe some food and good conversation.

WHERE IS THE ATLAS F1 HEADQUARTERS? The Atlas F1 Headquarters will be hosted at Hard Rock Café, located at 1458 Crescent Street (running between Ste. Catherine St. and De Maisonneuve Blvd.) in the heart of downtown Montréal. (Guy Metro station for those taking the subway.) The Hard Rock really needs no introduction and is a great place for our HQ! You can get drinks AND food at the Hard Rock so feel free to make the place home. The Hard Rock is open daily until 3am and you are welcome to drop by anytime, even after the race on Sunday if you’d like!

WHEN IS THE HEADQUARTERS OPEN? FORMAT CHANGE!Grand Prix “week” is, basically, Thursday through Sunday; hence the Headquarters will be ‘open’ from Thursday afternoon (June 12th) through Saturday night (14th). Previous years I have been your host at the Hard Rock all 3 nights  and all three nights have been treated as “equals”. This has been fine except that, inevitably, the person/peeps YOU wanted to meet came the night before or the night after or what have you. This year we are going to try and fix that with

 :drunk: ~ The AtlasF1 Canadian Grand Prix PARTY!! ~ :drunk:

As I already said, the HQ will be open all 3 nights, however if you want to meet the most number of AltasF1 Members in one-shot, you want to be part of THE Party… Get your ass down to the Hard Rock Café FRIDAY NIGHT, June 13th! It should be a blast!

Once again my company, JETPLAST Custom Displays, will be organizing this event and I will be your Atlas F1 Headquarters’ Host. However due to previous commitments, I am not sure how often I will be at the HQ this year. I WILL be there Friday night, other than that we’ll have to see. Co-Hosts, to help me out this year, will be announced shortly.

* NOTE: Hard Rock Café is a "Restaurant" until the kitchen closes at 10pm. As such, everyone is welcome until 10pm afterwhich it becomes a "Bar" at which point all patrons must be of legal drinking age. Legal drinking age in Montréal is 18 and therefore all Bars, Night Clubs, Taverns (“Brasseries” in Québec) and Pubs must adhere to this age restriction for entry into the establishment.

VIPVIPVIPVIPVIPVIPVIPVIPVIPVIPVIPVIPVIPVIPVIPVIPVIPVIPVIPVIPVIPVIPVIPVIPVIP

WILL IT COST ANYTHING TO GET INTO THE HEADQUARTERS?
IMPORTANT!

Seeing as the wait in line to get into The Hard Rock on GP weekend can sometimes be 1-2 hours  we have arranged for special VIP entrance for AtlasF1 guests! HOWEVER, in order to be allowed in ahead of the line-up you MUST have your official AtlasF1 HQ VIP Pass!

SORRY, GUEST LIST IS FINALIZED, NO MORE VIP PASSES WILL BE ISSUED. Hope you got yours!

If you do not get your pass request in or do not receive your pass in time, not to worry. The sole purpose of the VIP Pass is to get you in ahead of any line-up should there be one at the Hard Rock Café when you want to get in. Last year I don't think there was ever such a line-up that required AtlasF1 folks to actually use these passes! The reason I must have you e-mail me for the link to the pass is that the Hard Rock requires a "Guest List" for the front door containing the names of all those who have passes. Thanks!;)

VIPVIPVIPVIPVIPVIPVIPVIPVIPVIPVIPVIPVIPVIPVIPVIPVIPVIPVIPVIPVIPVIPVIPVIPVIP

So be sure to drop by as often as you like, meet other Atlas F1 readers / F1 enthusiasts and enjoy all that Grand Prix Week in Montréal has to offer! We are looking forward to meeting you but don’t forget…

The AtlasF1 Canadian Grand Prix PARTY!! Friday June 13th, 2003. BE THERE!

~ Atlas F1 Canadian Grand Prix Headquarters 2003 ~

Well a bit of bad news for Bogman... Jay, our friendly, neighbourhood Molson Breweries Sales Rep. who made sure the AtlasF1 HQ was well stocked with 100+ FREE Molson Dry beers every year, decided on a career change in January of this year! Unfortunately, due to this, the HQ will be WITHOUT Free Beer this year  :( However, if you need a deal on sympatico.ca ISP services, Jay may be able to help you there now!!

Sorry Bogman, and to the rest of you who were looking forward to getting at least 1 FREE thing at the GP this year...

Feck. Oh well, I'll still show up for a few beers...even if I have to pay for them. I'll probably be there Thursday night for a while. I've got Cirque du Soleil tickets for Friday, but I suppose that ends by about 11 pm.

See y'all there! Thanks again for organizing this Andy.

Hello Andy! I want to take this opportunity to thank you for organizing this weekend and I also have a question. While their will be three people ( possibly five ) in our party this weekend, I am the only Atlas member. Can all of us get VIP passes or do I get to go in and laugh at them while they stand in line?

a.) My pleasure!;)

b.) It's up to you but you WILL be able to get VIP passes for all your friends too, if you want. Watching them out the window might be more fun though!!

minardifan2 - I am just awaiting the Crescent St. Festival schedule from the organizers and it will then be added to my original post.

I'm going to say I won't be able to get to the Hard Rock because everytime I say I'm going, I never make it. So looks like I'll have to try again next year.

I also would like to thank you for co-ordingating this. I am wondering when will these VIP passes be made available? Hopefully they will be ready this week. Otherwise I may have to personally visit you at your office to pick mine up! :p

Leave me alone, I'm in mourning! I lost my kite last night!! Actually I should say "our" kite as my 2 year-old son claims ownership of the thing! After he went to bed last night there seemed to be a good breeze out so I figured I'd go fly it for a bit before it got dark... Seems the wind was a bit stronger than anticipated! I got it up to around 300' and then the string tangled on my spool. I worked for about 5 minutes to untangle it, all the time thinking "as soon as I get this string untangled I'm reeling her in because it's too windy!" Just as I get the tangle out - POP!- goes the string and away goes the kite! So I spend the next 1+ hours in the farmer's field across the road trying to find the blasted thing, to no avail! :(

My wife calls me at work this afternoon and I ask her "So, did you tell him?" to which she replies "Yes, and he wants to talk to you!" he gets on the phone and without so much as a "Hi Daddy!" or anything, says "Daddy? The string broke and YOU LOST MY KITE??!! You have to buy me a new one right now!" :

That's fine except that it was a nice nylon kite with a 7' wingspan and a 6' tail and, of course, about 300' worth of string trailing from it!! Now I'm looking at $40.00+ to replace the damn thing! Where the hell could it have gone??!!

SO... as you can see, I have been a little pre-occupied of late to worry about damn VIP passes! Sheesh, have a heart folks!

Not to worry, I should get it done and up soon!;)

Thanks for your patience.

Oh ya, by the way I JUST rec'd the Crescent Street Festival Schedule so will be updating the original post tonight with that and other info.

No need to thank me Andy.

Andy,

Thanks for all your effort... I never know where to get scheduling info, and as a result, I usually show up at events I would've liked about 10 minutes after they're over ):

I hope that by the time we're all at the Hard Rock, you've sorted out your kite problem! Good luck with that!!!!

The ferry is about twice as expensive as the Metro (around $4) but 10 times better and faster! (especially after the race.) I highly recommend it! Bogman will be pissed at me for telling you about it as, up until a couple years ago, it was so unknown that I think Bogman usually had the boat to himself! The Ferry leaves from the foot of Old Montreal in the Old Port and runs about every 1/2 hour or so. It's a nice ride too, especially coming back to the city as you get a beautiful view of the city from the water!

heh heh....Andy you can continue to tell people about the ferry, as long as there is still room for me! This year it is $3.75 each way. goes between Jacques Cartier pier (OLd Montreal) and Ile St. Helene.

it actually runs once an hour...and for some strange reason they refuse to alter their schedule for GP weekend. Also, they generally don't start running early enough to get you to the first practice session. I usually take the metro to the track, and the ferry back.

Ferry info is at 1-800-563-4643 or 514-281-8000.

No more helicopters? Wow, that's surprising...

It's not like I could afford them, but they were apparently a huge hit. There were plenty of people willing to dish out the $100 or $150 is costs to avoid all the traffic. The Gazette even had an article about it last year or the year before.

I'm really surprised

Just in case you missed the update to the first post...

So how do you get yours? Very easy, simply send me an e-mail and it will be sent to you via return e-mail!
PLEASE FOLLOW THESE DIRECTIONS TO ENSURE YOU GET YOUR VIP PASS:

  • Your e-mail must have the following subject line (copy & paste if you like) :
ATLASF1 2003 HQ VIP PASS REQUEST
  • Your e-mail must contain your full name, your AtlasF1 BB Nickname (if applicable) plus the names of any and ALL guests who may be attending with you.
  • Send your e-mail request to me at: andy@email.atlasf1.com

PLEASE NOTE: Reply e-mails will only start to be sent out on Monday, June 9th and the cut-off for requests is June 12, 2003 10:00GMT - NO EXCEPTIONS!

Thanks!;)

Thanks!;)

Next to impossible to do this at the track, but if you walk around town...you might just bump into your favorite driver. :D

Check out the following places: Hotel Vogue and Hotel De La Montagne on De La Montagne Street ( one block from Crescent St. ) That's were Williams, McLaren, Renault stay.
