IRVINE CLAIMS HE IS WORTH US$277.5mil
by Christian Sylt
In an extraordinary interview with the British Mail on Sunday newspaper, former Jaguar number one driver Eddie Irvine has claimed he is worth US$277.5million - considerably more than Michael Schumacher's estimated net worth of US$229million (I would like to personally point out 229 is the career salary and doesnt include investments and endorsements)
Irvine is known to have career earnings of US$52million and by his own account has multiploied this five-and-a-half times. In the same interview he claimed to own between 40 and 50 properties around the world from places as diverse as Sydney to Los Angeles.
Irvine has allways been known as a shrewd investor focusing on property but also with an exposure to global stock markets. He has been investing in property for the past 8 years at a time of average 200 percent growth in values.
Irvine has always earned good money from racing ever since he raced single-seaters in Japan's top series in the early 1990s. Then he was picking up US$500,000 outside of Formula One in Japanese Formula 3000. During his F1 career he was managed by top manager Italian Enrico Zanarini, who made sure he was paid top money and had plenty of personal sponsors. Zanarini is now managing Giancarlo Fisichella and focusing on finding him a top money Formula One drive for 2004.
Irvine enjoys all th toys of success but has carefully saved money by buying second-hand jets, planes, and helicopters. His most embarrassing moment came in 2001 when the Ford Motor Company board of directors discovered he was their highest paid employee on US$10million.

On Sunday they interviewed him on ITV and he sat on his yacht with 3 girls, his sister has just opened a club in Monaco he said. He commented on Jordan and said he believes Eddie Jordan is suffering badly from not re-investing in his own team with his own money.

hasn't jody sheckter increased his earnings tenfold through shrewd investing?
there was an article on f1-live about the richest people in britain...but i can't find it because afaik they don't have a search function :
however here's a quote relating to last year's list:
The South African born British-based 1979 World Champion Jody Scheckter was listed at 333rd with $143 million. Scheckter has not only done particularly well with investments relating to his F1 career, but also his dealings with weapons training simulators that he has sold to the US army.

It doesn't surprise me at all really cos I have also read that Irvine is a very good investor in the stock market. What surprised me was that his net worth is more than Schumacher's, not the actual value itself.

Well thats total value of Irvine's assets, the Schumacher number is just his Ferrari salary X his years under contract
