Molive, you are slipping bud!! Its Friday and no CART thread already! :p

Some news: Camathias appears to be out of money, he is out. Salles is back in. Camathias was decent this year, he wasnt the wanker that some people proclaimed him to be. Maybe he can get in a better car in the future.

The self proclaimed King of Portland is back. Max Papis will race in the PKR. There is no reason why that car should be so slow, they have a Lola, they should at least be beating the other Reynards, but that isnt the case yet.

Also it might rain this weekend.

First practice at 12:30 est.

Damn, I'd like to say 'Go Tagliani' but I have the feeling he'll spent all his weekend in the pits, chasing after what may help with his suspension problems... :

I guess a 'Go Guys! ' will have to do. :)

I'll be hoping that Junqueira continues to do well  Shame about Camathias, he seemed like a decent guy and was handling the car well at Laguna Seca.

Has Joel lost his ride? Sorry for him if that's the case.. Who would replace him, or has those who fielded the car went tits up?

He's been replaced by Salles but remains with the team, presumably until he gets more money together. story here

Well, Im starting to debate whether I should go see my first CART race. Since it is in Portland, and people have told me PIR has some good races...AND I have free tickets. Tough choice. :o

If you can get a good seat, CART races make for some incredible on-site viewing. Far more interesting than an F1 race. Get a good corner and watch those guys slide through sideways on cold tyres.

Plus the atmosphere around CART races are far more friendly than F1 races. You can walk around the track and get close to the cars - it's a much better spectator sport than F1 in my opinion

Go to the race! Portland has some great curves and one helluva straightaway. Stand in the pits and listen to the "whumpfh " as a driver upshifts down the front straight.

You can get VERY close to the drivers at Portland, as they have to traverse a long open stretch to get into the paddock from outside the track. In the early 90's I remember walking right next to a short, bespectacled fellow holding a bag from the drugstore with contact lens solution. Nobody was paying him any attention, as he was just Jacques Villeneuve, rookie CART driver....

Having just experienced my first CART race live I would have to agree with you. The experience of seeing the F1 cars around Spa was amazing but the overall weekend experience was superior at Laguna Seca (not to mention cheaper), the access to the drivers and cars in the Paddock was wonderful.

Is this a troll,or just an incredibly oversimplification/generalization of the racing that has occured this year??

I'll always watch an F1 race on TV over a CART race, but going to an F1 race to watch it live is not that enjoyable in my opinion. It involves waiting for hours just to get a glimpse of a driver in person.

Watching from the stands is USUALLY just a parade of cars that never get sideways / lock up.

Yes this is a generalisation but it is GENERALLY true.

I'm more of an F1 fan than a CART fan, but if I had the ability to watch a CART race live I'd always take up the chance

Since I live in Portland, I can assure, hardly not!!!!!

It definately rains atleast 2/3rd's of the year...and looking outside right now, I would say there's a fair chance of rain come tomorrow. ;) Portland, rainy most of the time, but come July-August it's hotter then hell, easily upper 90's to lower 100's.

Just a 1 1/2 weeks ago it was 97 degrees in shade, and today it's like 65. :drunk:

whether I will go, depends on weather as much as the change in my pocket. :(

this is an incredible statement, coming from a supposed fan, almost defies belief.I will respect your opinion, even though chatting it up with a driver, etc. isn't what I'm there for..I will say that every one of my[infrequent]attendance's at a GP has been totally thrilling and so completely blows away the TV experience its just in another world.

if you do not enjoy attending F1,and you have tickets lying around, send them my way.

Sorry to derail the topic..carry on.

Sorry to butt in, but this supposed fan agrees Mr. Sexy. As for sending you F1 tickets, I sent mine to Chris Pook... :)

http://groups.msn.co...erfrompook.msnw

Make that two rainards... from CART.com...

In second and third places – and separated by one thousandth of a second – were American Spirit teammates Ryan Hunter-Reay and Jimmy Vasser, in their Reynards. But Hunter-Reay was later disqualified from the session for being underweight, and moved back 19th. Oriol Servia is third on the overnight grid.

In a way im not surprised. Geoff Boss hasnt raced in years, is getting on in years, and was not much to speak of to begin with and Salles has been out ifor a while. Camathias just doesnt have any experience. Logically a guy with 20 F1 races under his belt should be the best. Half a point to Alex

The question is, if say, Bourdais had debuted for Dayle Coyne.

Where would HE be?

It'd be difficult. I think by season's end he would have been noticed by the CART team owners, but not neccessarily the fan. Seb's very luck to have a situation where he can just drive and his lack of experience is taken up by the experience of the team. So if he was at Coyne or Walker or whatever he wouldnt have been immediately in your face fast, but by mid-season he'd have probably done something. One top 10 qual, or a good lap in one of yesterday's wet sessions, certainly noticed by engineers and team managers, and the Coyne crew itself would recognise his talent and it would spread amongst the teams, even if they werent able to give him tools to immediately show it.

I absolutely agree with his statement. I can't speak for CART races , but the only thing that really draws me to Montreal is the fun time to be had for the weekend and the sound of the cars. the actual watching of the race is somewhat overrated live.

To be fair, I think anyone who travels to many F1 races can vouche that Montreal has a much better party atmosphere and is generally just much more fun than any of the other European circuits. I personally value my Cart races at Vancouver and Portland more (excitement-wise) than my Silverstone F1 experience.

I've been to both the Molson Indy T.O. and the Montreal F-1 GP. I think it was more enjoyable to be at the Molson Indy because you can get close to the paddock and the drivers. It's also much cheaper to go to a CART race than an F-1 race.

I think Bernie would much rather put up huge advertising billboards in the stands than have people sitting there. If he could get away with it, I think he would do it. All he cares about is TV, that much is clear, he really doesnt care if anyone goes to the race and it shows. F1 was not always like this, it will certainly have to change if it doesnt want problems in the future. One of the cool things about CART is that when you go to a race weekend, it is kind of like a time machine. To me, CART weekends resemble what an F1 weekend was like in the 70's and 80's. Good times all around.

YAY, Tracy takes pole.

Excerpt from Cart's homepage.

Heavy rain 15 minutes before the end of final qualifying has fixed the grid for Sunday's G.I. Joe'2 200. Paul Tracy grabbed the top spot, as the teams raced the incoming bad weather.
Michel Jourdain, Friday's fastest driver, and the current points leader will start second. Traffic seems to have been the major talking point, and should make for an exciting race. Full quotes soon.

With the rain clouds gathering, all but two cars took to the track when the green flag came, so traffic was going to be an issue. With the conditions likely to change, an early quick lap was vital.

Tracy set the ball rolling by being the first driver into the 58 second bracket, with a lap of 58.793 (120.565mph). This spurred Friday's polesitter Michel Jourdain into action, the Mexican coming close with his best lap of 58.838 (120.473mph), which was good enough for second place on the grid, which he was already locked into after Friday's session.

Tracy has been the talk of the paddock this weekend, named by a number of his rivals for blocking during Friday's qualifying. It was something that clearly fired the Canadian up: "This pole is a message to all the naysayers in the paddock," said Tracy. "And these would-be racer car drivers should remember that people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones..."

On the inside of row three will be Adrian Fernandez, the owner/driver happy with his position after a lap of 58.948 (120.248mph) : "It's good to be on the inside for the start here, so I'm pleased with that."

Sebastien Bourdais was another pleased with his day, The rookie winding up fourth on 58.976 (120.191mph). "After the day we had yesterday, this is a good performance. We had traffic, but I'm sure everyone will say that."

Ryan Hunter-Reay made up for the disappointment of losing his Friday time to end up seventh, but the rookie felt he could have done better, as he set off on his final run on new tires just as the rain came. "I know we would have gone faster, and so do my guys, but it's my best starting position, and we're going the right way. I'll just have to show the speed in the race."

One man not happy was Bruno Junqueira, left in 11th after finding traffic on both his runs. "Paul Tracy blocked me every lap on my first run. I had the car to be on pole, and I'm back there. When I catch him tomorrow, he's going to get what he deserves."

Sunday’s G.I. Joe’s 200 is being broadcast LIVE on CBS at 3:30pm ET

Sounds like a classic Tracy meltdown.

When asked about Hunter-Reay, Tracy said "I dont care what that cheater says..." he then went on to ask "speaking of cheaters, did Jourdain's car pass tech??"

About Fernandez "People with glass jaws shouldnt talk or they get punched in the face..." (something like that)

Also when asked about Turn 1 tomorrow: "I am going to show Jourdain who is the boss like apple sauce!"

he also had a shizzle ma nizzle reference thrown in there (cant remember what that was about)

Stick him in a car already!! PKR should have 2 cars, there is no reason why they should be so slow with 3 different drivers. Maybe getting feedback from 2 cars and 2 pros (Papis and Salo) will help them turn the corner.
