I voted in Rosset. I like his helmet.

He is a average driver. The third best of this list.

I can only choose one?

Verstappen, Marques, Yoong, Alonso, Davidson, Webber, Sarrazin, Badoer, the Flying Mullet, Diniz, Zonta, Enge, Keisa, PdlR and Burti.
I don't care much for the rest of the so called "bakmarkers" :)

And we have the classical ones like Phillipe Adams, Gounon, Fontana, David Brabham, Gachot, McCarthy, Moreno, Montermini, Lavaggi, Lamy, Deletraz, Noda, Inoue, Berreta, Belmondo, Schiattarella, Katayama... I could keep writing for ever...

Putting Mika Salo on there seems a bit harsh, since he would actually have won a race if it wasn't for Ferrari's team orders.

Personally, it's Taki Inoue, for the famous episode when he unintentionally went breakdancing on the safety car.

Awesome, Fontana made it in the list without ever driving an F1 car! :D

I voted for Salo, though I'm not sure if he truly belongs on that list. At least he was THAT close to winning a GP in a Ferrari of all cars. Can't say that about the others.

AGREE.

And Diniz. 98 or 99 when Schumy was not able to pass a Diniz and spun at Monaco for the 6th position.

Fontana did race for Sauber a couple of races in 1997, finished three of them, though never in the points. I thought he was pretty talented. He was only 22 when he debuted.

Haven't Fontana blocked Villeneuve in Jerez 97 while driving for Minardi?

(I remember Larini(Sauber) blocking JV in San Marino, that was so classy)

I wouldn't vote Salo. Voting him would underline has was a backmarker. But he wasn't except for maybe one Tyrrel season and part of the Arrows season. Salo drove middlefield cars for most of his career. I would have put into that list only drivers who drove for worst or almost worst car and whose performances were embarrassing by lack of speed or many incidents.

For me it's was close decision between Takagi and Yoong. Voted for Takagi's guts and spins since he is more a real racer

Check your facts first before you post.
Maybe you remembered the fight between Wurz and Schumi for 2nd and 3rd in '98.....

  HEY HEY HEY !!! Indeed, the FACT was, Schumacher was a LAP BEHIND Diniz at Monaco, while Diniz was in 6th place, and Schumacher was lapped by Diniz that moment.

Michael was so stupid to try to overtake Diniz still in the final lap, to unlap himself from Diniz.

What almost took the 6th place of Diniz.

one of the most stupid manouvre's of the German. He was A LAP BEHIND and in no position to gain that 6th place AT ALL!!!

Schumacher was not even competing for points that moment. Just an final lap against Diniz, ... don't ask me why of course... there was no logic at all then and there.

What is Salo doing in that list? He would be a GP winner if not for Ferrari team orders.

None of the above.

I would select Pascal Fabre who had the uphill struggle of campaigning the AGS car.

I recall that he finished six laps behind one year at Monaco.

I went with Mika Salo, simply because he was the most talented on the list. However the "nicest" of the bunch has to be Alex Yoong.

Come on fellows. :D
As far as "nice guy" award, it has to be Alex Yoong.
After almost every race he would come back to the pits and apologize to the crew, the mechanics, the sponsors, the other drivers, the fans (both of them) and the media.
So polite.
So sorry.
Gotta love the guy.

I like Luca Badoer because he is able to extract the same amount of speed as the regular Ferrari drivers and is inch perfect. He's had 3 big crashes actually but none his fault that has taken away the fact the his driving is actually brilliant very clean and tidy. If you look at the times he's done too he's second only to Schumacher by a small margin, it is only testing but everyone raves about Massa and thats by his test times so since Badoer is always faster I dont buy this 'Massa just testing tyres' business.

i know he isnt recent, but my guy was always pierluigi martini. being an age old minardifan since the good old days, this would be obvious...
the guy was amazing, at the end of 89 he led portugal, and qualified 5th 4th and 3rd in successive races, then got second at phoenix in 1990! In a minardi!!!

that would make him more than a backmarker .

heheh I voted for Pedro Diniz . He's outraced Damon Hill several times in 1997 despite paying $12 mil to Arrows in 1997.

see, more than a backmarker in 1989/90....but in 91-95 most definitely the definition of a backmarker! especially 95 when he was sooo slow. I dont know what happened to him that year, maybe he was too old.

My pick? Ukyo Katayama, the little warrior!

Martini was amazing!
Definitely not a backmarker. Could have been a race winner if he had better machinery at his disposal!
