I would like advice on differential selection for a well developed tarmac rally car and tarmac hill climb saloon car (low C of G, wide based double wishbone suspension, front mid engined).
Due to the twisty nature of hill climbs my thoughts are for a diff that is open on the over run or coast side. The vehicle will also see road use so a diff with gentle operation is prefferred.
My thoughts are for a torque biasing diff such as a Quaife, but concerns of potential wheel spin if I lift a wheel.
The other thought is for a plate diff with 80 degree coast, but will I still have one wheel spin if I run with low preload?
What about a viscous?
Anybody have any experience of the Emco unit?
Any advice or suggestions or links to further info would be appreciated.
Thank you

There is alot to be said for a locked diff, it apparently works better than you would expect in alot of situations. One of Mark Donahue's unfair advantages..
That said, I like the Torsen, (Quaif) seems to work well in alot of situations.

I like the Torsen, but I don't do hillclimbs.
