Q. Paul, a couple of questions to you. On the Minardi's bargeboard is printed ‘not paid' over one of your sponsors, Stayer. Could you tell us the story behind that?

PSt: It's a bit of a sad story actually. Many of you know that we had a problem with the main sponsor at the start of the year and lost forty percent of our budget through no fault of our own and one or two others we've had problems with during the year. This particular one, despite repeated warnings and bounced cheques and, God knows, every other problem, I took the decision to put that on there today more or less just to send the message out that really you ought not to sign contracts if you don't intend to honour them.

Hilarious!!!! Brilliant! PS needs the dosh and don't need any freeriders - he can't afford them! I think some people will think twice after that! Noone can complain about what he is doing, as they are holding their part of the bargain.

The plot is quite big and a friend of mine is also involved - as a victim like Minardi. Simplifying, it seems that Stayer is not paying for its logo on Minardi cars, at the same time it seems that a promotion company linked somehow to Stayer (www.devilpromotion.com, a company that collects sponsorship for motor-racing teams) is not paying. They also have not payed for their site (which was designed by my friend) www.stayeracing.com - www.devilpromotion.com, which is now down.

Is it just me, or does having the words, "not paid" stamped on the car, not only embarass the alleged party, Stayer, but all the other sponsors in the image? I would definitely not want my company's name in the same picture as a "not paid" sponsor, as people see the image and make a general association, without knowing the specifics. As usual, Stoddart, shoots himself in the foot, while acting impulsively, rather than professionally.

I agree. I feel for Paul in that he got shafted by Stayer, but he is spiting himself.

The simple fact that we're all talking about it and looking at pictures of it proves that Paul Stoddart knows what he's doing. he's increased the exposure for the other sponsors whilst we look at the 'not paid' one and we know that he did it b/c they did not pay, but the rest of the sponsors did. This makes the other sponsors look good in comparison in that they hold their end of the deal.

Great Job Paul! Keep it up!

Well I'm Italian...
Stayer apparently sells small building tools (alternative saws etc.)

The most incredible thing is the motto :
"ALWAYS AT YOUR SIDE"

Anyway...
Although I istinctively pend for Minardi, we must not forget that Stayer could have an opinion of their own on the matter. As now, we have only Stoddard's word.

Significant that they could not get a replacement sponsor for a one-off Japan deal?

What a stupid move!!! How professional does Stoddard handles business relations.
If they don't pay then just take the name of the sponsor off. Don't try to kick back...

Well I think it is quite nice to see that they are doing something about it. Apparently there have been some bounced checks and promises made to pay several times - but the money simply isn't paid. And Minardi deserves to get them! Minardi have been running the logos for quite sometime and I see nothing wrong with their actions - and I think the other sponsors will understand it.
