Just wondering if anyone knows if Microsoft will be dropping the price of the Xbox? With the price of the PS2 here in the UK now dropped to 139.00 and the Gamecube dropped to 79.99, I wonder if the Xbox will drop its price leading up to Xmas. The reason I ask is I am looking at getting one pretty soon and like the look of the following games,

Rallisport Challenge
Sega GT 2002
Group S Challenge
Knockout Kings
R: Racing Evolution
Rallisport Challenge 2
V Rally 3
Men of Valour: Vietnam
Apex

Many thanks

I'd rather have a PS2 . . . . however although Microsoft weren't planning to cut the price they're soon going to left with no choice, PS2 was always outselling the XBox but the recent price cut by Nintendo (who are effectively Microsoft's competitors - Sony are miles ahead) has seen their sales quadruple in the States.

It'll hurt Microsoft to do it but they'll have to.

Thanks Ricardo. I will wait until the drop. Also going to get a PS2 in March for GT4.

I just bought an Xbox here in the Netherlands, and the package they offered with two controllers and Rallisport challenge was cheaper than the PS2 (1 controller, and the GTA series which I don't really like) prices here. I didn't know of any online retailers here, and got it from the stores.

I knew of the GC's price cut coming up, but went ahead with the X since I really only bought it for Madden2004 and the upcoming FIFA2004 game. I know the GC also has those games, but to me it looked and played better on the X. Also, it has a fairly good selection of driving games, but I can't really play driving games too well on the consoles after playing with PC sims for the longest time, but am having a hoot at Rallisport challenge. I tried that and VR3 but kept getting the impression you just go slipping and sliding all over the place, much worse than I did with a gamepad and my PC with CMR2, Mobil 1, and the F1 games that came out.

Judging by your list, is it worth buying CMR 04 as my main driving game? I didn't really like VR3 or Rallisport Challenge in terms of driving behaviour, so am wondering if CMR would also play the same. I'm assuming the PS2 version and the X version would play the same. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Thanks,
Chittiappa

Sean,

Once you get live up and running, let me know your user name. PGR2 looks fantastic, but I doubt I'll like the tracks. I'm not much for one to race on those programmer designed tracks, I like real tracks...I'm such a snob. However, I'll still get it just b/c it looks like a reasonable game, and I'm a sucker for live games. Make sure to check out Rainbow Six 3 for live, it looks like it could be quite fun.

Does any1 here play Moto GP or Moto GP2?
I got part 1 on the Live demo disc and ive been playing that game online like there's no tomorrow!
Pre-ordered part 2 cuz its supposedly better than part 1 in everyway, but alot of ppl online say that its not...mainly cuz the majority of ppl online only own part 1, or just its demo.

I strongly advise to spend some time on that game...its Excellent!!!!!

Yep, I will.
I play Rainbow Six 3 ravenshield on the pc alot, I have like 60 free maps downloaded free from the websites, there's always new maps to download. I'm sure there will be similar stuff on Xbox, I guess I'll see if its worth it for playing on the xbox, but I really like the game alot, being playing it on pc since May.

The tracks of PGR2 are exactly like the cities, they've been realistically photographed, and smart driving engine felt realistic in PGR1, there's a step up in the sequel. Out of all driving games I've played, I feel most at home with PGR type game. I'm a project gotham fanatic, I had MSR on the dreamcast, which this game was based on, and played that to death, the project gotham 1, now looking to 2, and challenging online in 2004 will be gaming heaven. :smoking:

Project Gotham Racing 2 is the ultimate test of racing skill, style, and daring that rewards you not only for how fast you drive, but also for how you drive fast.

Earn Kudos and gain recognition for cornering on two wheels around the Sears Tower in Chicago; power sliding through the ancient streets of Florence, Italy; or manoeuvring along the racing line through the slick streets of Edinburgh, Scotland-all while racing some of the most exotic high-performance vehicles available. Challenge other gamers online, utilising Xbox Live, or take on your friends in a multiplayer race via System Link.

Racing around the globe: Maintaining its international theme, Project Gotham Racing 2 takes place in photo-realistic recreations of famous cities including Chicago, Edinburgh, Florence, and Moscow.
Sweet rides: Take the wheel of some of the most exclusive high-performance vehicles, all fully licensed with realistic damage modeling. Project Gotham Racing 2 offers an exciting driving experience in vehicles such as the Ferrari Enzo, Porsche GT2, BMW Z4, Pontiac GTO, Mini Cooper S, and many more.
Music that drives you: Listen to the hottest DJs in the world turn out authentic music from real radio stations, as you drive through each city in the game. You can also create personal play lists with the exclusive CD player in Project Gotham Racing 2.
Highly detailed game environments: Project Gotham Racing 2 captures the essence of every city, with fully researched, photo-realistic environments (including highly detailed storefronts and buildings), allowing gamers to experience the superior graphics technology of Xbox.

And personally, when I listen to music cds, I make sure they are downloaded on the xbox, so I can listen to them on the car radio while being on the limit driving the car, the best way to listen to music and thrill of driving the car as well, got like 6 cds of my own music on the xbox.

And after a good quick race, I like to watch the replay, while the music is on as well, and have a tea and some apples and be proud of my racing. :D

I used to play it when it first came out, but played too much and don't pick it up too often. I do think it is an incredible game. Thing about MGP1 is that people cheat too much by cutting corners, etc. Apparently they have reduced this on MGP2.

I really enjoyed PGR1 but....
The major problem I had was with the progression through the levels - once I reached a certain point, about halfway through IIRC, the opposition got way too tough. I was racing with cars more powerful than mine, which I had yet to unlock, and starting from the back of the grid didn't help either. Third was usually the best I could hope for.
The other downer was that the AI cars always made the same mistakes in the same spots every race - There was no need to challenge for a position - just wait for the accident and move past. One of the Central Park races in particular - the second or third placed car always sideswiped the wall and lost momentum allowing me to overtake into the sharp lefthander. Very predictable.

I didn't have a problem getting through the levels, I think if you pick the right car thats available, the competition is beatable to those cars that are available, I completed this a while ago now, and just settting time attack records waiting for PGR2. Remember you need like 3rd place in some races, and you don't need to be outright fast, but get 3rd places in some races and do kudos. I really pushed myself to do it. :smoking:

The AI needs to be improved, but A1 for racing games has never been a match for a human player, but with Xbox live now, were going to best best drivers as in human around the world, be a honor to compete with you sometime on Project Gotham Racing 2.

FredF1 vs Valen,, 2 Ferrari Enzo's racing around the streets of Florence Italy  :smoking:

Do you folks know PGR 2 has got the Nordschleife? That is without a doubt a deal breaker if you are on the fence about making the purchase.

Thanks for that Sean.

I'll definitely be getting PGR2 in any case.

As for XBox live - well...
I'll have to get a phone connection first! We're waiting for broadband to become cheaper. I was reading a report in the Sunday Times that the phone company, Eircom, is overcharging by over 30% for broadband. I'll have to wait for the competitions commission to kick their arses first.

Goodluck. I'm hoping to get X box live christmas or early Jan. It will be 29.99 per month, 600k speed, which you can use for the PC and xbox, use them both at the same time as well. NTL is the provider. I'll ask for Xbox live starter kit, installation as a christmas gift, but given the higher monthy fee, my brother already pays 18.99 per month for 150k, so I'm gonna pay the difference for 29.99 for the whole 2004 in advance, hopefully just a hundred pounds on my side :D
I might be lucky if that happens.

Back to Project G R 1, some of the levels really ticked me off, like trying to complete all of the arcade races to get aston martin vanquish was tough, when you virtually had to slide the car on the straights, in corners, out of corners, avoid the stop hoops, very difficult, I chose a car on some ttracks like the ferrari modena which slides around alot, easy kudos, but difficult to be perfect with it, I really fought and practice it, like efforts over 2 weeks etc on some levels, sometimes gave up, it was a big challenge, but it was possible.

The only thing I've found impossible are getting gold medals on medal attack to get new colors for your car, pushing to get bronze is a challenge, and silver seems the ultimate time, then gold sets the time like a second more then that or further, and it seems the perfect lap which is difficult to do.

One of things I like doing, having gotten something like 50, 000 kudos, unlocking the Ferrari F50, is going back to the earlier levels and trying to lap the cars. But the time attack record challenge is what I do most, while listening to music now.

I think you find the car with the most grip is the Feroce, just point and it goes, but sometimes need the handbrake to slide it as it has too much grip, great acceleration, low top speed, it's good on tracks where you got elevation changes, and not many long straights, it can match some of the best cars in some corners and of cource its brilliant in the wet, very easy. Some of the James Park tracks going on the bridge and everything, breaking is key, go over the humps wrong way, and u skid and twist, but Feroce is like the terminator, very simple to drive, but more time as well, if you use the handbreak to slide this car, can slide too much, so do it mostly when your fast.

Favorites:
Ferrar f50 for overall fastest car.
Porsche Camera, can't remember the exact name, but the car isn't on the streets yet, has a cool shape, pretty fun to drive, some nice oversteer.

Porsche 911, very sensitive, but when driven right very fast, I don't think I've mastered this car to its potential, tricky, medal attack, can't get a silver for this, in the corners it needs precision to the max.

Ferrari Spider and f311 I think, Magums car on the tv show from the 80s, handles the same, but great satisfaction in drive these, not the powerfulest, but you feel you can make a difference, great confidence. Too bad they don't have a terest rossa.

Aston Martin Vanquish, high top speed, low acceleration, about the same as the Ferrari Spider and f311 in overall lap time, it's very confortable to drive, a relaxing drive, plus it's James Bond's car, so cool driving it when I have some Bond songs in the background. :smoking:

Feroce, as explained above.

SV, you mean the high speed internet is an additional 29.99/month, right? If you're telling me that Xbox live is 29.99/month then you need to call up Bill Gates and demand a price drop. Over here in the U.S., we pay $50/year for Xbox live (and I pay $60/month for high speed internet.....damn expensive if you ask me).

That is expensive, 600k actually costs 24.99, and I was complaining they wanted to charge 5 pound more, as not every xbox is said to be in the same room as the pc, so they made that price, looking at your prices, I can't complain too much, you need to stage a walk or something, bring down prices.
29.99 pounds for the 600k internet, that is correct, for my pc and xbox, the service the uk provider ntl is providing. the starter kit is like 69.99 pounds which containes one year subsciption I believe for live..
