I've noticed that scuderia sorocaima appears at the end in 1960 and also in F2 events , what was behind this team, entering Maserati 250 F, Abarth 232 etc

I would want it, too!
No one?
I know that this time was involving in some Formula 3, Formula 2 and Temporada races from, 1964-'67.
Who was behind the team?

I understand that Sorocaima was the chief of an Indian tribe in Venezuela, possibly the name of the tribe itself.

From the players involved, I can only guess that the team was founded by some Italian expats living in Venezuela. The first reference I have been able to find was a fatal accident during practice for the 1960 Cuban Grand Prix, although it is entirely possible the team operated well before February 1960.

"Ettore Chimeri, a young Italian driver that made Venezuela his home, met his death on the track at the Gran Premio Libertad. He was the only tragic note of the event. The accident took place on Saturday, February 27, while Chimeri, who represented the Sorocaima Racing team, was qualifying for the major event on Sunday, with his 3 liter Ferrari. Chimeri lost control of his vehicle at the U turn on the west side of the track."

The next appearance I have of the Sorocaima team was at Nassau in 1961, where Italian Guido Lollobrigida [Yes, he was related to Gina] drove a Maserati 300S. He was next seen in the 1962 Daytona Continental with the same car. Period reports mention a Sorocaima team base of Miami by then. Since the 300S ended up with Charlie Kolb, also a Miami residence at the time, this would make sense.

By the mid 60s its base seems to have moved back to Italy. Perhaps Venezuelan political turmoil caused by Chavez's ancestors led to an exodus of Italians back to the old country?

 Which argues well for the "correct" name of Escuderia Sorocaima as opposed to Scuderia , which they called the team when doing F3 and F2 (Abarth) in the sixties in Europe. ((coinsides with Escuderia Varzi /ACA which when coming to EU was called Scuderia with their base in Italy)).

Another brick in the wall , thanks !

Thank you very much! Sounds like a very interesting racing team. Perhaps we can find out more about that team!

Bjorn,

Not sure which races you are referring to with Lollobrigida's 200S Maserati, but in various publications he is incorrectly put into a 2-liter at Nassau 1961, Daytona 1962 and [entry list only] at Sebring 1962. In all case it was a 300S, chassis 3054. Before he could race it at Sebring the car was sold to Kolb, who raced it first at Fernandina Beach in Florida, on March 4, 1962, before Sebring.

I believe that Sorocaima / Guido Lollobrigida was present at Sebring 1962 with a Ferrari 500TRC (n°31).

For Escuderia Sorocaima in Cuba 1960 see:

Looks like they had three Stanguellini FJ cars badged up.

Driver Silvano Turco may be associated with the team.
