What a horrible topic name...

I saw a picture of Kimi from the Japanese GP press conference after the race and I noticed that Kimi wears his watch on his right arm, not the left as is the norm for most people (us right handers).

Is Kimi left-handed?

OMG. :rotfl:

Soon HSJ will come here and make a thread about Kimi sipping some water from a bottle. Sheesh.

Who cares if he's left handed or right handed? The drivers are just some guys who are filthy rich and have (mostly) beautiful girlfriends. And they can drive. That is about all I need to know..

You wear the watch on the other arm with which you use the pen. Wrong?

I don't know if Kimi is right or left handed, but there is quite a funny story that might fit in well here.

At the Australian GP (I think, going from memory here), at the end of one of the press conferences, a reporter was asking Kimi about his tattoo (cue another off-season discussion...). Then the reporter asked if his cameraman could take a photo of the tattoo. Kimi obliged but made them wait for the photo until he had transferred his Tag Heuer watch onto the tattooed arm, and made sure they got it in shot!

Ron Dennis must have been glowing with pride!

I lot of good racing drivers are left handed I noticed this years ago and since it was more than the usual 13% I put it down to most circuits being clockwise, us right handers find it much easier taking a left left bend there is much more strength and control from the right hand, arm and shoulder and obviously its the opposite if you're left handed. Jenson Button, Nigel Mansell, Ayrton Senna, Kimi Raikkonen ? Nelson Piquet ? I can't quite remember off the top of my head. The way the circuits normally go (clockwise) favours left handers quite a bit.

depends on your driving style....kinda like your 'swing' in cricket.

ive noticed i tend to do most of my steering when driving by using the hand thats pulling down on the wheel, rather than by using the hand thats comming up, if that makes sence. im right handed, and i find it easier to turn right, coz my right hand is comming down on the wheel.

not that i find it 'hard' to turn left...but you get my point.

Why is this such a problem??

i too choose to write with my right hand and wear a wrist watch on my right hand wrist. i get a lot of flak for doing so; thinking about forming a pressure group, right handers - right timers. something powerful like that. we double wrist watch wearing righties need a voice!

Most Left handers wear their watch on their Right arm it stems from which hand you use to operate things e.g. I'm right handed but when combining both my hands I use my left hand to do things and right hand to steady or hold the object ANYWAY I think someone was trying to find out if Kimi is left handed for what it matters I suggest waiting until the next time he sprays champagne or signs an autograph. I'm sure Michael Schumacher knows check out wether he has a bruise on his right eye or left :rotfl:

Oh great, now you've blown my surprise thread of the week!

My brother is right-handed but at least he used to wear his watch on his right hand, even after I told him that that's plain wrong for right-handed people! I haven't checked if he still has this horrible habit, and frankly I don't care either. :)

Kinda OT but....

Do you ever notice that you can see both McLaren Drivers wrists exposed on the in-car camera. It seems as their is a gap between the end of the sleeve and the gloves. I always wondered if this was dangerous.

Yup. Noticed it the first time with Kimi at Suzi this year. My original thought was: 'Hey, those f1 guys arent half as professional as they wish to be!' But maybe there is even a specific reason to this although I cant think of any except being toasted in a burning car.

it could be that after the race someone from mclaren just slapped a watch onto kimi for the sponsors. much like montoya in monaco.

but then on this months' f1 racing cover, kimi's wearing a watch on his right hand too. this could also have been due to his sponsor, because the photo doesn't show his left hand.

Well im left handed and were my watch on my right wrist. Its a pain because the watch controls are facing away from me, so I have to twist my hand over the face to be able to operate the bloody thing.

Hear hear! I am another one of these so-called freaks. It's just the way I've always done it.

Anyway, I've also noticed that there are a lot of left handed F1 drivers. It would be interesting to find out if there is an actual reason why or if it is mere coincedance.

I thought it was mandatory for F1 drivers to wear the ridiculously overpriced Rolex Daytona.

I must be confused, because I'm left-handed but wear my watch on my left wrist. To date this has caused me no problems at all :)

Lefties don't wear the watch on the left hand because that's the working hand - if you do work that is.Using a hammer will destroy a wind up job, dunno about a digital, gets wet and mucky if you are a plumber, shorts out starter motors if you are a mechanic - this list goes on....if you push a pen - no problem.

Accordion players wear it on the right cause the strap interferes on the left.

Kimi is obviously an accordion player... :p

I never knew this simple question would get such a response!

Watching the hockey video at www.formula-one.net it's apparent that Kimi is indeed a leftie.

Your probably right, but its not a sure thing. For example, golfer Phil Mickelson is actually right handed. And on personal experience, I play hockey from the left (but am right handed) because my parents bought me a leftie when I was little and by the time I figured it out it was too late.

It really is the off season.

That explains it - it's because I don't do any work! (Don't tell my boss!)

Having said that, I still wear my watch on my left wrist when I'm working on the kart / car / house, so far no hammer / watch interface dramas :)

I guess it's more common to a hockey player to play leftie when they're right handed. But there's exceptions. I'm right handed but I've always played hockey rightie.

.. of course, I'm no hockey player. I actually suck pretty much in it, but in Finland practically every male is forced to play that stupid game in school
