Hi,

Some friends and I are thinking of travelling to Spa next year in case it gets taken off the calendar for good. We're travelling from the UK and have already figured the cheapest way to get to Belgium is probably to drive ... does anyone have any experience/advice on where to stay, when exactly to go, etc in order to do this trip on the cheap (half of us are still students ... oh woe be us).

cheers,

sc

Gents - cheapest way to stay will be drive over on the ferry then....

camping, www.eaurouge.nl is one place, they speak good english and you can walk to the tracjk from the campsite.......

you can buy your tickets direct from the circuit www.spa-francorchamps.be (well soon the info is not up yet for 2004 i don't think)

Tickets are on sale now so you'd better be quick. If you really want to go cheap stick with a bronze ticket, you won't get to see la Source or Eau Rouge (mind you if you go round to the main entrance, were the team stands are, you can watch the cars climb out of Eau Rouge from one of the bars there!). what a bronze ticket will get you is Kemmel uninterupted views right up to Les combes, Blanchimont-Stavelot, Brussels (down from Malmedy) Fagnes, the Bus-stop (always busy)
Access to the infield etc. etc. etc.

Camping Eau Rouge is pretty good but it is actually not on that part of the circuit. It is situated on the Stavelot road (about a mile from the entry gate) but there are several way into the circuit across the fields. Bring decent walking boots cos you'll need them!! The camp site also tends to get booked up very early.

We'll be there next year so if you guys decide to go post and maybe we can hook up :)

Was in Spa in 2000. We have silver stands tickets for the race, but decided to stand/sit on the end of the long straight after Eau Rogue. Was rewarded with the Mika pass on the inside...the classic one right in front of our eyes. Great stuff. :)

Spa is great, enjoy!!

So, tickets are going quickly...according to the Spa site Gold 1 & 3 are sold out.

Looking at the circuit map...

could anyone give me some advise as to:

1. Does Gold 4 face down the hill toward Eau Rouge?
2. How do you make sure that you're in the Gold 2 stand with the best view down the hill? It is purely random or can one express a preference?
3. Which would you plum for as an experienced viewer of F1 (it will only be my 2nd race visit!)

Thanks in advance for any assistance,
Richard.

I can answer the Gold 2 question... nope you have no control where you will sit. I had the same question and was told you just get what you get. I went ahead and booked it... just received confirmation of my seat location recently (don't have it handy, sorry). My recollection is that there isn't a bad seat in Eau Rouge though... although I haven't been since 99. They better be brilliant for money we're spending on them (stupid, weak USD! )

Gold 4 faces down the hill. A top row seat there would be worth getting for obvious reasons.

We are doing the camping thing as well... looks like I'm going to give www.eaurouge.nl a try. Thanks for the recommendation on that place

The campsite at www.eaurouge.nl looks pretty good.

Does anyone know whether you can book by email (doesn't seem to be a link on the site) or is it just a case of phoning them up?

thanks
Mark

Thanks

Went in 2002 was a great weekend. Stayed in camping eau rouge its about two miles from the circuit. Its a good campsite and the whole weekend was very cheap. Ryanair from Dublin to Charleroi. Got a train from Charleori down to Spa. The rip off was the taxi to the campsite so beware. Other than that all done for less than 500 euro including the bronze ticket and as many pints of stella as you can drink. The bronze ticket will get circuit access. On the Saturday watched qualifying from the Bus Stop great view and as a keen photographer got some great snaps of the cars. On Sunday it was busier and i watched from the straight section before the bus stop. Great view and plenty of ear popping.
Good luck
