I see that the HSCC are exhibiting at the show this year that runs from 13th to 15th November and I see that Ted is also there once again. I'm considering going to it, being a local; is it worth a visit anyone, as it's not cheap???

It is expensive- last year I think it was £8 to park and £25 to get in (I have a Press Pass for the three days

I'll be there on Friday and wear my badge. #184
Cheers,
Pete.

Dad and I are giving it a miss this year, due to the cost. We're hoping to go to one of the Brooklands events instead.
Forgive my usual ignorance, but what Brooklands events?

We've not decided yet. Dad said something about using the money we would have spent at the NEC to get down to Brooklands again.

Gary could help you with the Brooklands Programme Mark, he practically lives there!! If you pm me, I will forward his details.

). I think it certainly is worth a one-off visit but I would not go every year at that price, if I had to fork out.

here is a parking tip (but don't tell everybody ;) from the Rover P6 club last year, suggest that you consider parking at Hampton-In-Arden railway station for free and travel in one stop by train which will avoid the inevitable traffic queues and the high car parking charges at the NEC
SSSHHHHH!

If there is still room in H-i-A that sounds a good idea. If not, Berkswell, near Balsall Common is the next satation.
I went to a Motor Show at NEC some years ago and found the car parking arrangements were of such poor calibre that I vowed never, ever to go again. As an example of the inept organisation, the buses used for ferrying people to and from the remoter parts of the car-park used the same road as the (almost static) queue of vehicles trying to depart onto the motorway system.

You should try the International Spring Fair in February, Allan, Europe's biggest trade fair. I once spent 2hrs 40 mins getting from the carpark to the motorway!!! Admittedly things have improved over the years, and with the global downturn and the advent of the web, shows in general are not as well attended as they once were.

Regarding Car club spare tickets. They are so tight. We have seven cars on our stand this year and as far as I know we've got an allowance of only four free tickets per day!

I arrived at Euston in time for my 8.45 train to the NEC. We boarded the train at 10.30 and arrived at 12.30! I upgraded to first Class as you can imagine that the train was slightly full by that time and had the misfortune of sitting oposite the living incarnation of Hiacynthe Bucket who refused to remove her bag from the seat next to her to allow a young girl (not from these shores) to sit next to next to her. She then proceeded to talk loudly via a mobile phone to her entire familly for most of the journey. But not before spilling orange juice over the table and using a strand of her hair as dental floss. The hair remained attached to her head while she did this and is most probably still attached to this day.
I'll drive, thank you very much.

I tried Mr Branson's service two years ago. NEVER AGAIN.

No extra charge for such a memorable experience?

I have about 4 copies (Vol1 issues 1 and 2 and Vol 2 issues 1 and 2) of Graham Gauld's magazine from the early 1990s "Historic Racing" for free if anyone wants them. There's a feature on the Lotus Indianaplis cars by Andrew Ferguson. Just let me know a stand and time, and I'll drop them by.
Looking froward to seeing some Talbots! Just MOTd and taxed my Horizon today!

Sounds good to me- the bus to car-park arrangements seem to vary from excellent to absolutely dire; couple of years ago they had some "classic" Leyland double deckers running, which was nice.
HiA in the Sat-Nav then.
Any particular time for a gathering at Ted's?
edit: Tomorrow, Friday, in my case.

If there is anyone about at the NEC today, may I suggest 12.30pm at Ted's stand? I will try to find anyone who is stuck on a stand and can't make it during the course of the day.

The train from HiA cost £1:50 return, lots of spaces in the free car park at 11:00 today.
For photographers the NEC must be the worst venue ever; the warehouse-grade lighting is inconsistent and a total nightmare to set the white balance. Next time B&W only.

First, the 1950s gas turbine Rover Jet 1 (thought it was permanently in the Science Museum?).

... plus its deluxe dashboard.

For the more fortunate Plod.

Heart of the Herald-Climax, developed by a certain J. Brabham.

Jaguar XJ40 Coupe - one of those intriguing 'if onlys'

Daimler SP252 - another might-have-been if Jaguar had let it happen.

I used to dream of owning a Mini-Marcos as a yoof - this reminded me why. Mantis behind it.

Winner of the "Suit enthusiast" award?

The mechanic is actually Bill Simpson, as mentioned in this thread...

I trust he turned up in his wonderful home built MGB V8

Beat me to it! It was at one time owned by Martyn Griffiths.
