On October 15th, two new memorials to executed resistance fighters and SOE agents were unveiled at the former Buchenwald concentration camp. Among the latter group was Captain Robert Benoist, Bugattiste of note, multiple Grand Prix victor and winner of Le Mans in 1937, who was hanged there in September 1944.

On a recent trip to the Fausto Coppi velodrome in Torino found this memorial plaque to Biagio Nazzaro.
At some point he must have raced bikes.

There used to be a memorial (created by Berchtesgaden sculptor Hermann Ebner in the shape of a broken steering wheel) for Ludovico Scarfiotti at Rossfeld-Höhenstrasse near the site where he had his fatal accident. I haven't been able to find it on past visits, and apparently it has been stolen by vandals. A new memorial (a recreation of the original one) is to be unveiled there on September 28th 2013, as has been promised by dentist and classic car enthusiast, Dr. Hans Heil.

Obviously not much civic pride to be found in Lapalud judging by the state of the monument..... Quelle dommage

Its another case like the Seaman and Bordino memorials where road modification contractors had no idea what they were dealing with and removed them.
Luckily in this case The local maire Mr Lambertin rescued it and had it repaired and replaced.
