Sorry, another Senna thread.

This pertains to the Senna income annually since his death. There was a recent report in the news mentioning the top money earners after they die.

Dale Earnhardt was on the list. But no Senna. Does anyone know what sort of income Senna's name brings in? Where he would rank on the list? (I know money is a private and sensitive matter, but I was just curious as to how popular the Senna brand is, and if they possibly forgot to put Senna on the list).

regards,
doohanOK.

I was also curious about this. The list is published at forbes http://www.forbes.co...2deadintro.html

Forbes Richest Deceased Celebrities
Rank Name Earnings ($mil)
1 Elvis Presley $37
2 Charles Schulz 28
3 John Lennon 20
4 Dale Earnhardt 20
5 Theodor "Dr. Seuss" Geisel 19
6 George Harrison 17
7 J.R.R. Tolkien 12
8 Bob Marley 10
9 Jimi Hendrix 8
10 Tupac Shakur 7
11 Marilyn Monroe 7
12 Jerry Garcia 5
13 Robert Ludlum 5

Surely Senna should be on the list. The Aryton Senna Foundation must take in millions of dollars a year.

I'm not so sure he would be making much money. I mean he has a few products, such as watches, bikes, the Senna S t-shirt, but I can't see those making as much money as other things. Senna was a sports person, not a product like other people such as Elvis. It's always going to be alot harder to "sell" a sports person as a brand. I mean Beckham makes alot of money now, but if he died, I'm not so sure people would be buying his name on products in such numbers.

Plus all the profits made out of that stuff would go back into the foundation. Since that is a charity it might not count as his.

That list is their capital... not earnings, right?

Maybe his capital was all put into the Foundation, so reducing his personal estate to a very low level?

The capital, of course, would be earning interest for the Foundation.

No, it's earnings for the year.

Sales of the AS foundation were $90M in 1997. I don't know if that would count as "earnings", or if you would need to know what their profit was. The Foundation supports something like 50000 children in Brazil, so that's another possible piece of the puzzle.

Yeah, I think earnings constitute profits, charities are supposedly non profit making and could well be exempt as, like people have said earlier, any income is meant to be spent purely on paying off overheads, with all profit meant to be spent on the underprivileged.

The Senna family controls the Audi operations in Brazil, so I think that their main revenues must come from that.

Senna's private jet has spent the last nine and a half years at the airport where he left it four days before he died...that must be costing a lot in fees.

If nobody has been using it, why would they keep it? Unless they own the hangar and don't pay for fees....

Really? In Italy? Where did you read that?

It's not in Italy, it's in the UK (Southampton to be precise).
Senna left it there because he travelled to Imola in Frank Williams' jet.

This is factualy incorrect. Senna did fly his own jet to Bolognia, in fact his pilot, Mahoney, I believe was the one that picked Senna's bags up on Sunday morning and waited for him at the Airport. Senna also approached him on Saturday and gave him some signed photos depicting both of them.
After it was clear that Senna had died, he flew the jet back to England.
