I have been able to identify most of the drivers in the F5000 machines on this website (thanks Google :) ) but there are a few that I still don't know. Do any of our friends from 'down under' know who was driving these cars at the 2003 Skope Classic, Ruapuna Park...

No.6 Lola T332
No.18 Begg 018
No.21. Begg FM5
No.30 Lola T332
No.711 Lola T142

Thanks in advance
Rob

I have a full entry-list without race numbers - if you want to PM me what you have, we can probably work out the remainder by elimination
In the meantime the Begg FM5 is probably Lindsay O'Donnell and the 018 Phil Mauger

Following PMs from both Rob and Jeremy, I have to admit (almost) defeat.
Rob identified one of the T332 drivers as Ian Clement, whose name does not appear on my list, though I have John Mann in one of these cars, as well as some exotic foreign names.

The full list I have, of entrants in the NZ series, is:
Begg FM2.....Stuart Lush
Begg FM5.....Lindsay O’Donnell
Begg 018.....Phil Mauger
Elfin............Aaron Lewis
Lola T142.....Larry Dietrich, Rodger Townshend, Steve Ward
Lola T190.....Poul Christie
Lola T192.....Bob Harborow
Lola T332.....John Mann, Stan Redmond, Murray Sinclair, Frank Lyons, Mike Wrigley, Abba Kogan
Lola T400.....Shayne Windleburn
Lola T430.....David Abbott, Todd Stewart
McLaren M18.....Judy Lyons
McRae GM1........Stan Redmond, Stuart Lush, Roger Williams
Talon MR1A........Tony Roberts

David,

Thanks very much. I've found a preview for Sandown this weekend on the vhrr.com site, and the #6 Lola is indeed John Mann, and the #30 is Ian Clements. So just not sure about the #711 T142

Thanks for your help

Lola T430, made for VDS to use in US in 1976. I believe only 2 made, princiapply for Pillette to drive. Their other driver, Gethin, mainly used the unique Chevron B37, though did have some races in the 2nd T430 though. Both cars were 'last throws of the dice' in F5000 from their respective makers, the series was just about all up anyway. I think both cars were easily outpaced by well-sorted T332s in any case, though Allison did go well in the B37 in Britain the next year.

Wasn't the T400 the last Lola Pilette raced in 1975 in the european championship? I'm not aware of Pilette in an american F5000 championship

Pilette raced a T430 in the 1976 US championship, with Gethin in the B37. Warwick Brown joined later in the season with a second T430

(Dan, there were 3 T430s - the last chassis got converted to a CanAm car, I think, although I haven't checked Allen's site for it)

The T430 we all know and love here moved on from Warwick Brown to Allan Hamilton, then after it turned Allan into a diabetic with that huge shunt into the foundations of the Dunlop bridge at Sandown it was rebuilt for Alfie Costanzo.

Bob Minogue was the next owner, IIRC. By the time of his ownership, F5000 was a cooked goose in this land, the last bastion of these magnificent monsters.

Hi everyone,

Sandown was a great meet, with 13 F5000s taking to the track.

1 Tony Roberts Group 7 Sportscars Limited Talon MR1A
2 Roger Williams Roger Williams McRae GM1 (ex Evan Noyes)
3 David Abbott David Abbott Lola T430 (ex VDS/Hamilton/Minogue etc
8 Shayne Windelburn North Shore Automatics Ltd Lola T400
10 Todd Stewart Todd Stewart Lola T430 HU3 (ex Haas/Redman)
14 Murray Sinclair Murray Sinclair Lola T332 (ex Lawrence/Hook)
15 Stan Redmond Stan Redmond Lola T332 (ex Bartlett/Walker)
21 Lindsay O'Donnell Lindsay O'Donnell Begg FM5 F5000 (ex McCully/Talbot etc)
22 Stuart Lush Stuart Lush McRae GM1 (ex McRae AGP)
26 Robert Harborow Robert Harborow Lola T192
30 Ian Clements Ian Clements LolaT332
47 Paul Christie Paul Christie Lola T190
63 Andrew Robson Andrew Robson Lola T332 (ex Smith/Milton/Butcher etc)

And just to prove some of the guys were having a go, Roger Williams set a new outright lap record of 1m08.33, 2 hundreths faster then the existing lap record of Simon Wills in a Formula 4000 :) Was a great show and nothing sounds quite as good as a grid of F5000s :)

I was at the Sandown Historics as well, though I forgot to take my TNF badge.

It was a great meeting, the variety of the cars in Victoria were impressive and the the F5000s were awesome. Its amazing that all the F5000 seemed to have ended up in NZ and that there are so few in Australia. I wonder why this is so?

I was there to help a mate with his Alfa 2000GTV in Group N (we came down from Sydney.) He put up a good show against the multitude of Minis until crashing heavily into the armco near Dandenong Rd in his last race - driver fine, car on the critical list!

Still, my mate also has an original Group C Alfa 2000GTV and we met up with the original owner/driver Graham Harrison and saw all his old photos from Sandown 75, Bathurst 76 and the rest. Fascinating stuff

So it wasn't all bad news. :)

Paul,

Still quite a few F5000s in Australia, sadly few chose to run at the Sandown meeting, among the ones missing that have run in the past few years

MAx Floreani Elfin MR5
Grahame Mein Elfin MR8
Mike Glynn Elfin MR8
Mike Glynn Lola T400
Darcy Russell Lola T330
Richard Bendell Matich A50
Graham Smith March

Plus quite a few in bits

So there was potential of a grid of 20, Dave Abbott says there should be 26 at the Kiwi Series, with a couple coming from the UK.

Hi

Yes, there could well be 26 F-5000 cars at the Skope meeting in Christchurch next year.
The 11 cars that went to Sandown, 7 that stayed home, 3 from England and the cars coming from Aus.

Here are a couple from Sandown
