JV finds success as a ice hockey player with The Monks of Bretaye hockey team. So I guess there is life after F1. :)

JV: From Formula One To Ice-Hockey Success...
Jacques is having fun on the ice-rink...

Five times so far between December 03 and January 04 ‘The Monks of Bretaye’ Ice-Hockey team, lead by Jacques , have returned to the ice rink stadium of Villars-sur-Ollon (with one away game in Lausanne) to take on various other Swiss teams.

It may not be the heights of international or league hockey but it seems that Jacques is enjoying his time off training and playing with a group of friends against some of the region’s ice-hockey clubs.

The team was formed over a year ago now (you may remember having read about their first two matches) by Jacques, Nani and Fred. ‘The Monks of Bretaye’ is the direct translation of the actual title in French which is ‘Les Moines de Bretaye’ – Bretaye being the centre of the ski resort above Villars, which already has it’s own very successful Ice-Hockey team.

The team play in dark red/brown shirts printed with their name (eg: Frere Jacques) and the team name. [In case you're wondering, 'Frere' translates as 'brother']

Here are the results of their last 4 games:

21 Dec: The Monks of Bretaye 10 – 2 Les Taz de Gryon

22 Dec: The Monks of Bretaye 14 – 3 Les Horse-Power de Lausanne

04 Jan: The Monks of Bretaye 10 – 6 Caribou de Geneva
(JV : 1 assist, 1 goal)

05 Jan: The Monks of Bretaye 5 – 4 Les Braves de Ollon
(JV : 1 goal)

11 Jan: The Monks of Bretaye 4 – 7 Lausanne

12 Jan: The Monks of Bretaye 7 – 4 Les Braves de Ollon

The Monks of Bretaye include freres : Jacques Villeneuve, Patrick Lemarie, Jimmy Barillon, Gustave Chable, Ariel Flemming, Frederique Lauquin, Nani, Jean-Pierre Arnold, Laurent Alpstag, Stephan Ganz, Martin Rioux, Martin Racine, Eric Rogenmoser, Erwin Goellner, Bret Barillon, Alex Pedrazzi, Bob Seguin

You know what...JV's not doing so bad. Playing hockey with his mates, sking in the Swiss Alps...doing the horizontal bop with his lovely Ballerina fiance...and laughing all the way to the bank. Sound's pretty good to me. Much better thatn having to look at DR's rotten teeth every day...and wondering when Honda's latest re-incarnation is going to blow up.

If I were him, I'd be doing the same thing.

I think after a year off JV will come back to F1 re-newed and invigorated. Not to mention hungry to kick some **s.

I would like to see that happen. However, it looks doubtful that JV will ever get the opportunity to drive for a competitve team again. I wish there was another Canadian or American driver in F1 that I could follow abd support.

There is another Canadian talent on the rise and it's 16-year old Canadian Fran-Am Champion Andrew Ranger.

Remember that name fellow BBers. You'll be seeing him on the F1 grid in some years to come
